Jesús Joaquín Fernández or ‘Suso’ as he is more commonly known, was presented at UD Almería on Monday. The player, who begins a one-year loan from Liverpool, said he had come to the coastal side to “work my socks off and put Almería as high up the table as possible”.
The 19-year-old forward explained the reasons behind his decision to spend the next 12 months back home in Spain, saying, “Almería tried to sign me a few years ago. Now, quite a few clubs have shown an interest – including clubs in Germany but the only offer that really excited me was Almería’s. This is the ideal place for me, the squad is good and I think we can do well in the Liga BBVA this season but we will have to work hard as it is going to be very demanding. I plan to work my socks off and give everything I’ve got for the club; I know that nobody is going to gift me anything – there are a lot of good players here and competition for a place in the team will be tough - I have to earn it”.
Suso added that he is willing to adapt to wherever coach Francisco Rodríguez Vílchez decides to deploy him, “My natural position is as a deep-lying forward but I will play wherever the coach wants me – on either wing or in midfield,” he said.
