Suso loaned to Almeria

He would be perfect to replace Coutinho right now, he loves the No. 10 role. He's obviously not at the same level but he plays the same role (almost like Alberto wants to too) which I think would make a big difference to the team right now.

Also Shambles - do pipe down

Without Courtinho, we look disjointed - Suso could be the solution to that problem

I'd love for him to be able to eventually settle into the position Gerrard's currently in, behind Coutinho. Next to a powerful, athletic (and hopefully clever) dm.
That might be a slightly light weight midfield unless he bulks up, but it would be in line with the Rodgers and Barca philosophy of skills, movement and short passing over power, and might just work.

watching him play makes you wonder why we have spent dosh on alberto when this lad seems younger, more talented and more used to the premier league?

I think ultimately Suso will play deeper than Alberto. I think this loan spell is very important for Suso's development anyway.
The bigger question for me is why we spent the money we did on a player as young as Alberto, only to not use him at all while players like Coutinho and Suarez are out of the squad.
Was Alberto really necessary? Can't help but wonder what we could have done with the 14m odd quid that we spent on him and Aspas.

Buying him wasn't the issue for me. It's the amount spent I have a problem with. The guy has only played reserve and la liga b football. Would have bid half what we spent or walked away. Even then I dont see what he offers that we already dont get from suso. Pointless signing really. With his and aspas money we could have bought eriksen.

We could have bought Eriksen and had enough cash left over to pay for his first year's wages.

Exactly. No matter how you look at it the Alberto deal doesn't make any sense and especially at that price. Suso looks the better player and definitely has more to his game.

Makes perfect sense to me. Why should we put all of our hopes in Suso? We have Suso, therefore we should not buy Alberto or any other young and talented attacking midfielders, as long as Suso is under contract with us? That's just bollocks. We will need more Susos and Luis Albertos and Coutinhos if we are going to build a team that can compete for years to come.

From what little I've seen of Alberto he looks nowhere near the talent of Suso. It's odd.

All these other mother fuckers be trippin, right Rurik?

I knew I was ghetto

Ps I agree completely re: Alberto. People are taking a short term view on a long term player

Really? LAR is much more of a goal threat, although Suso has his own good qualities. They are not very similar, actually, and will probably gravitate towards different positions as they develop.

You would have to agree too Fabs, that these kind of signings only makes sense if they are actually bigger talents with greater potential than those already at the club?

I mean I have NOT seen enough of Alberto to judge him properly, all I know is he's struggling to get even 10 minutes of football in a squad screaming for creativity whilst Suso has gone to La Liga and seems like a fish in water down there already. He's even younger than Alberto too. £6M seems an awful lot of money on a player that is seemingly not even close to make an impact and is turning 21 in a few days.

Much more of a goal threat based on what exactly? I mean Suso has already scored more in the top flight compared to Alberto, whom is yet to ever score a goal actually at the highest level. And Alberto is more than a year older than Suso too.

You may be right of course, as Alberto is pretty unknown to me, but unless he has been really bad during his first few cameos he is not in Suso class, a player who can also cover one of the creative positions in a team as well. A perfect 8 he could turn into. Not so sure about "LAR".

As Rurik said, I'm assuming he was bought because he's a player that carries a goal threat. I'm not sure - though hard to tell because we've not seen much of him - that he is a player who excels at creating for others in the same way the likes of Suso and Coutinho do.

That said, we could be with a bit more goal threat. The problem is that he has a lot of competition out wide and he'd probably sink in that no.10 role at the moment. He is a player that needs time and it'll take a while for us to properly decide whether he was worth the time and money or not.

Cheers mate, that'll give him a lot of confidence.

What a crazy 2nd goal of his that was btw.

*Oh and Ibe's silky skills makes me want to see him at the biggest stage. To be fair Sterling also looked good from that clip so there is of course a giant leap.
