Super Mario

Balotelli seems to me to have two common problems of temperament: one is self-control against the top teams in high pressure matches, one is motivation against minor teams in run-of-the-mill games. We can solve the latter simply by not playing him in many of those games (League Cup etc) and using Lambert instead. Rodgers will have to work some magic as far as the latter is concerned, but we do play to a style that ought to suit him - high tempo, intense interaction. If anything is going to keep him occupied and completely focussed, that's it.

So, does anyone think Balotelli and Sturridge could play together? Or is it going to be an either/or thing?

Personally I've always felt we need two more strikers this season. If we could get an up and coming talent (because there's no bona fide striker close to coming through the system at present) to supplement this, then the squad will be much better.

Might be a good chance for Yesil if he gets fit and there is an additional space in the striking ranks? Or too much too soon?

I think so yeah. They both run about over both wings and all over the show anyway, I can't see them getting in each others way

Watching some videos of Mario it looks like he is more than capable of playing in that switching positions type role of sometimes being down the middle, sometimes in a #10 type role, sometimes out wide. I can see them both being able to play together.

I'm both excited and scared at the same time.

A bit like when I found out that Mrs. Athens was pregnant.

Rarely does the #4 striker ever get much pitch time. Look at City, strong contenders in every competition they were in however Jovatic hardly saw much action last season, and even then that was down to Aguero's injury issues. Aguero, Dzeko, Negredo all saw substantially more minutes than Jovatic.

If that was us with Sturridge, Balotelli, Lambert and a young striker .. the young'un would hardly ever even make the bench.

Fine. You still need him, especially as Sturridge is likely to have injuries, and Lambert is older than most other top teams' forwards, so that means he would indeed be on the bench quite a few times. Or without him we'd have loads on here moaning about why there are so many defenders/midfielders on the bench when we need goals. Hope you won't be one of them with your three strikers fetish.

Lamberts age & Sturridge injury record suggests that a fourth choice striker would get to play. If ballotelli comes off you can add his previous disciplinary record into that equation too.

Quite. Good news about Mario but I do think we need a bit more back up.

Oncy's gonna have to withdraw his "we're slow as shit at doing transfers" malarkey cos we've gone from interest to confirmation with Mario fuckin Balotelli in less than 12 hours!!
