Would you have picked Kewell over Didi Ryan?
I never minded that it was Bolo fUcking Zenden over Bellamy 2 years later that killed us.

He won us the Champions League - which is probably the greatest footballing night half the fans in the stadium will have ever witnessed.
He donated an unprompted amount of money to the HJC upon leaving the club.
And he was Manager of our club for an extended period of time.
If all or any of the above aren't enough to warrant the respect and admiration of the famed Anfield crowd, then football can go and fuck itself.
We were being knocked out of the Champions League by giants such as Strasbourg and FC Basle before Rafa came along; suddenly under Rafa we're beating Barca, Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan (i.e. the best in Europe) and winning the CL. He gave our club back it's credibility at the top echelon of the game despite the fact he couldn't replicate the European form in the League.....apart from our 2nd place finish in 2009. We also qualified for CL every season during his tenure bar the last season.
Rafa is without a shadow of a doubt a LFC legend and will get the reception he deserves.
Yeah!Did you not know that all of that was achieved through sheer idiocy and blind luck?
I never minded that it was Bolo fUcking Zenden over Bellamy 2 years later that killed us.
No, but I wouldn't have picked the team that got the draw away to Juve either.
The reception Ged got when he came back with Villa pretty much finished him off with their fans. It must be a tricky situation for such a figure, but by this stage Rafa must hate Chelski's fans so much he'll probably relish their fury as the Kop sings his name.
I'm gona give him a genuine applause out of respect for a past Liverpool manager then I hope his team has a crap day and he rides one last time off into the sunset. Can a mod add a poll to this thread - options:
warm applaus + chant name
warm applause
silence
boo
See, I don't think it will be just for that reason. Whatever view one takes of Rafa's abilities and achievements (or indeed his payoff, before anyone starts on that) I don't believe there's any reasonable doubt about his love for the club, and my bet is the vast majority of fans will recognise that.
I was very close to buying a ticket to the game but work got in the way.
If I was there I'd definitely cheer when he's announced. He turned us into the team to beat in Europe and considering our demise since then I'm very grateful for those years.
I don't think anyone has the balls to boo him at Anfield.
It'll be the usual thing: outrageous gestures, obscene chants and downright peculiar noises, and then Vlad and Portly will sit down.
I imagine that Rafa considering what he's done for the club on and off the pitch will be presented by the announcer in some way. Like 'we'd like to offer a special welcome to former manager Rafa Benitez" etc.Since when is an opposing manager 'announced'?

Disagree. Taking Masher off was what did that IMO, and some of Rafa's own comments afterwards suggested he realised as much.
How can anyone who supposedly supports this club boo a manager who helped win the European Cup for us for the 5th time against all odds?
One praiseworthy feature of the Anfield crowd is that we don't automatically boo former players or managers just because they used to be on our payroll. I think to do so displays small-club mentality. Look at the way the Villa fans consistently booed Downing on Sunday. So in general I think the return of former club people tends to pass without comment, unless the crowd has a particular reason to praise or blame them.
