Sun 21 - return of Rafa

No Torres return please, the guy was at his peak 3-5 years ago and has been a below average striker since then, People point out that Chelsea don't play his type of game whereas that is exactly what they do. They have some class midfielders who have been instructed for a number of years now to help him score, and he has disappointed. He was sulking and deteriorating(injury or not) during his last 3 or 4 months at Liverpool before he shit on the club in the last 2 days of the transfer window and then spent his next few interviews talking about how good it is to finally be at a big club and that it was his destiny to score against us in the upcoming match. Liverpool has move on! I'd prefer the £15m to boost our defense and midfield.

I suspect that the "Torres would regain his form at Anfield" theory holds as much merit as the "Rafa will get the best out of Torres" one.
While, as already been pointed out, his movement is still good, he has undoubtly lost a yard of pace. Allied to that a confidence that is shot, a deteriorating first touch and a doubtful attitude and I would say the best we could hope for is the Torres we had for the last six months of his Liverpool career.
Not bad but not worth £15m either.
I would be curious to see if he could regain his form with us but I wouldnt gamble that much on meer curiosity.

I also thought that the straight 50M cash was a key driver of the deal. Honestly, I'd take Torres back in the absence of any other top notch available striking options. The lad is just home sick and will fire on his return. Of course a Torres, Suarez, Coutinho front 3 would instill the fear of Liverpool in the opposition.

I don't think that the quoted 15M would form part of the transfer kitty and we would be getting the real deal despite his well documented struggles at the Chavs. The last paragraph seems to suggest that. However, I speak under correction. A summer transfer return of both Alonso and Torres would be sensational.

As for the no. 14 shirt and why he'd want that, I don't care. Alonso would get preference.

1. If this were in any way true why on earth would you think that promised income would not already be factored into the clubs accounts. Do you really think that one day in June they'll open a letter from Russia containing a cheque for £15M and say "Gosh that's unexpected. What should we do with this?"

2. The shirt no. is 14 ... 1-4

Of course he will get a warm reception just like Keegan got as player and manager and Houllier on his return.

He got us to 2 European Cup Finals in 3 years something Fergie and Wenger couldn't do, teams feared us, you could actually see people looking relived when our name was drawn out and they knew the wouldn't be facing us that round!

Asbo!

Yeah, where have you been, you fecker?

You're absolutely right BTW. What we were doing in the league didn't matter. NOBODY wanted to draw us in Europe in those days.
