Is it me or does a lot of these rumored price tags seems incredibly outlandish to you as well?

I mean €25M for a to me completely unknown 27-year-old defender and €30M for this talent and that talent?

No wonder they are all probably going nowhere.

WEST BROM are expected to formally announce the signing of Nicolas Anelka within the next 24 hours.

The journeyman forward, who spent last season on loan at Juventus, is currently undergoing a medical at the club's training ground.

It is thought that he will sign a two-year deal at Albion and will represent a coup for the club.

Moreover, it will give him the chance to reunite with Steve Clarke, who was an assistant coach during Anelka's time at Chelsea.

West Brom would be Anelka's fourth Premier League club, having previously enjoyed spells at Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

According to Sport, Barcelona are considering offering €25m plus David Villa to bring Wayne Rooney to the Camp Nou.

It is widely expected Villa will leave the Catalans this summer, with sources close to the Barca board having indicated that Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool have all asked about the player in recent weeks.

However, the €12m asking price appears to have put them off and La Blaugrana are believed to be weighing up whether to offer the 31-year-old plus cash to land Rooney from Manchester United.

Barca are waiting to hear the outcome of a meeting between United boss David Moyes and the former Everton man to determine his future before making any move, with the relationship between the pair understood to be strained after their time together at Goodison Park.

Rooney’s €14m-a-year salary may prove a stumbling block despite the saving on Villa’s wages, which next year are estimated to be around €10m.

Nonetheless, Barcelona President Sandro Rosell could be prepared to give the green light to the move as the England international has previously stated his admiration for the Spanish giants.

According to Sid Lowe, Higuain only wants a 3 year deal at Arsenal. Will be interesting to see if they resist signing him or go through with it.

Apparently Real is willing to pay 30 million for Illarramendi (That's more than what they paid for the best U-21 European Player - Isco).

I'll be surprised if he moves on this summer if that article about getting Sociedad into the CL is true.

Jeez 50 grand a week for Anelka , he got to perform for that much, but I bet he scores against one of his for met clubs Mmm I wonder which one..

Tottenham have ended their interest in Internacional striker Leandro Damiao and Southampton are stepping up their attempts to sign him instead.

Spurs have been chasing the Brazil international for the past two years, but have grown frustrated during negotiations with Internacional and are now looking elsewhere for a forward.

They are close to securing a deal for Barcelona striker David Villa and hope to partly fund the transfer by selling Emmanuel Adebayor to Turkish side Besiktas.

Internacional continue to demand £21m for Damiao and his agent Jorge Machado claims a Premier League club, which is believed to be Southampton, are in negotiations over a deal.

He said: ‘There is a club interested. We have been talking with Internacional for many days, but we have to wait.

‘Inter have set a value, which is very significant, so we need to have more talks.’

Besiktas are still hopeful of signing Adebayor, who is no longer wanted at White Hart Lane despite joining from Manchester City for £5m just one year ago.

Board member of the Turkish club, Ahmet Kavalci, said: “We are definitely interested in him and have made an offer. Adebayor currently wants more than what we were hoping however, talks are ongoing.

Wilfried Bony's agent has claimed Swansea have offered an improved package worth £13.7million for the Vitesse Arnhem striker – but insisted the Dutch club have still not sanctioned a deal.

The Swans thought they had a reached an agreement with Vitesse last week after tabling an offer worth £10.2m, but that bid was knocked back and now Bony’s representative, Francis Kacou, revealed another big-money proposal has not yet been accepted.

Kacou, who also claimed Swansea’s have been trailing the prolific Ivorian for six months, said: ‘Why does it take so long? Six months ago, we made arrangements for a lump sum of 12 million (euros), regardless of goals.

‘Swansea wanted to pay and Bony has seen that, but Vitesse wanted more. Now there is an offer of 14 million plus two million in bonuses.

‘Why is Bony still in Arnhem? We do not know what they want.’

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed to Sportsmail on Friday that an improved offer has been made for the 24-year-old, but it has not yet been accepted.

In an interview with Voetbal International, Kacou claimed to have had had contact with West Ham, Liverpool and Everton over the striker, who scored 31 goals in 30 games last season.

‘West Ham United, Everton and Liverpool have been reported as having an interest, but Swansea has made the best offer. I want clarity, and a promise is a promise.

‘One thing is for sure, he will not be playing for Vitesse this season.’

Jenkins hinted on Friday at his frustrations at the slow progress of the deal and indicated he might be forced to consider ‘plan B’, which would most likely be Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Asier Illarramendi could be on his way to the Bernabeu. Negotiations to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder appear to be on the home stretch and could be finalised next week. The European Under-21 champion will cost Real Madrid €30m, the amount stipulated in his buy-out clause and everything points to this being an amicable deal.

This way, there would be a deal with Real Sociedad and 'Los Blancos' would avoid paying VAT. In addition, the move would not harm Madrid's excellent relationship with Real Sociedad, just as the club's president, Aperribay prepares to run for re-election in the next few months.

Negotiations are at such an advanced stage that both clubs are already discussing how the €30m payment will be made, given that Real Sociedad will not negotiate for anything less than the player's buy-out clause. Real Madrid wants to pay the €30m (or €27m plus add-ons) in two or three instalments, as agreed with Málaga in the case of Isco's transfer. On the other hand, Real Sociedad wants full payment in cash.

Those around Illarra have made him see that, despite his eagerness to remain another season and play in the Champions League with Sociedad, he runs the risk of missing the boat if Real Madrid signs Gündogan next year.

Chelsea's hopes of signing Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, 31, have been given a massive boost with the Spanish side interested in signing Real Sociedad player Asier Illarramendi, 23, as a replacement.

Sunderland have agreed a fee of £2.5m for Panathinaikos winger Charas Mavrias.

The Black Cats are closing in on a deal for the Greek teenager, holding talks with Panathinaikos director – and former Newcastle United defender – Nikos Dabizas.

And reports in Greece suggest that an agreement for the 19-year-old could be pushed through over the next 24 hours.

Panathinaikos put a £6m price-tag on Mavrias’ head last season but have since run into financial problems which has left them unable to refuse Sunderland’s cut-price offer – although the initial £2.5m fee would rise with add-ons linked to appearances.

The deal is expected to progress quickly with Mavrias, one of the brightest young prospects in Greece, known to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

Italian giants Juventus had a £2m bid for Mavrias rejected last season and Sunderland’s new chief scout Valentino Angeloni also ran the rule over the youngster while he was Inter Milan’s talent-spotter.

The Black Cats are also making progress in their pursuit of two more players, with Frenchman Benjamin Mendy and Argentinian Gino Peruzzi expected to join up with Paolo Di Canio’s squad before they decamp to Italy this weekend for a 10-day training camp.

Sunderland have agreed a fee with Le Havre for left-back Mendy, while right-back Peruzzi is on the verge of completing his move from Velez Sarsfield.

Interesting to see if Valentino Angeloni can repeat his feat with Udinese at Sunderland.

Asier Illarramendi is set to become Real Madrid’s fourth summer signing. Although both clubs are yet to officially confirm the deal, an agreement is in place between all parties. All that remains is for Madrid and ‘La Real’ to finalise the conditions of payment for the 30 million-euro fee (VAT included) agreed between the clubs.

Real Sociedad had pushed for Madrid to pay in one instalment, while Madrid initially offered to pay in three. On Friday evening, the Basque outfit accepted a compromise payment plan involving two instalments, leaving the way open for the transfer to be completed. The player’s buy-out clause is 30 million euros. However, Madrid will not exercise the clause by paying it in one single deposit to the Spanish Football League, which would incur a 6 million euro fee in VAT, and will instead pay the money directly to the Basque outfit.

On Friday morning, figures at the Real Sociedad offices confirmed the 23-year-old’s departure for the Santiago Bernabéu. “The Illarramendi deal is done, he’s going to Real Madrid,” indicated a reliable source close to the ‘txuri-urdin’ board of directors.

The negotiations over the move have been conducted in person by the clubs’ respective presidents, Florentino Pérez and Jokin Aperribay. The pair have been in constant conversation in recent days. Midway through the past week, Barcelona also contacted the San Sebastián outfit to state their interest in signing the midfielder, but were informed that they were too late: Real Sociedad were already negotiating with Madrid.

The player remains on holiday in the Balearic Islands, and will return to San Sebastián on Sunday. Bahía, the agency which represents the player, have been working to finalise the terms of his contract at Real Madrid. He will sign a five-year deal, the same as Isco, and will quadruple his current salary of 600,000 euros per season. The Spain Under-21 international, who had initially sought 3 million a year at Madrid, will pocketing 2.4 million per campaign.

Illarramendi will be presented as a Real Madrid player in the coming week. Wednesday and Thursday have been pencilled in for his unveiling, but the date could also be moved forward.

Finally, both clubs have met the footballer’s desire for the move reach a swift conclusion. He had requested that the deal be closed before his return to training on 11 July. Once he had decided to make the move to the Spanish capital, he did not wish to report for pre-season at 'La Real' only to have to leave the club shortly afterwards. It is thought that there is a pact in the Real Sociedad dressing room stopping any player from departing Anoeta ahead of the coming Champions League campaign. Nevertheless, Illarramendi is aware that a move to Madrid represents a unique opportunity that he has little option but to take.

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, currently undergoing personal training at the Real Sociedad facilities, welcomed the signing of a player already viewed as his long-term successor. Speaking to ‘AS’, the 31-year-old commented: “He’s a good player who would be an excellent addition at Real Madrid, but I prefer not to say anything more.” The Spain international will surely take a leading role in helping Illarramendi to acclimatise at the Bernabéu.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed the club are interested in signing Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, Valencia midfielder Ever Banega and Celtic's Victor Wanyama.

The Saints have yet to give up on signing the Bhoys' Kenyan midfielder despite being rejected by the 22-year-old, while Brazil striker Damiao has been valued at £21.5m by his club.

Pochettino says talks are progressing on all three fronts as he looks to sign "two or three key players" who can have an immediate impact on the Southampton starting XI.

He told reporters: "We manage a lot of information about very good players. One of them is Damiao, also Banega and also Wanyama.

"We are managing the situation as well as we can at the moment. The main thing is that we as a club, Southampton, are managing when these negotiations happen so that is what is happening.

"We are managing when these players are going to be signed and how we sign them.

"Our goals are very clear. I am also not trapped by the fact that I said I wanted to have our transfer window closed by July 1.

"We are not interested in 15 or 20 players. We are interested in maybe two or three key players."

Manchester United have joined the race for Cagliari defender Davide Astori, along with Milan, Napoli, Liverpool and Southampton.

The Italian international scored a goal in the Confederations Cup this summer against Uruguay and confirmed he is likely to move on.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Manchester United are the latest club to show an interest in the 26-year-old centre-back.

He is already of interest to Milan and Napoli, while in January Liverpool and Southampton engaged in a bidding war for the player.

Cagliari held on to Astori back then, but would be more amenable to a sale now for €12m – approximately £10m.

Chelsea isn't exactly rolling out the red carpet for Valencia to sign Oriol Romeu on loan. Despite being well aware that the player is interested in moving to the Mestalla, the London club has thrown a spanner in the works with its financial demands. Not only is it asking for a €1 million loan fee – with no purchase option – but it also expects 'Los Che' to foot the youngster's almost €2-million-a-year pay packet in full.

Considering Romeu is Valencia's top target, the club is desperate to hammer out a deal with the Blues and is set to argue its case in two ways. Firstly, that if there is no purchase option, then no fee should be due and it would simply pay his wages. Alternatively, if it has to pay a fee, it should have the option of making the move permanent at a knock-off price, with any loan fee paid discounted from the final bill.

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is reportedly on the verge of joining Manchester City for £11.2m plus performance-related bonuses.

Roma have been in negotiations with City for several days and on Sunday evening rumours swirled around the Italian media that a deal was close.

Manchester City’s proposal now appears to be €13m cash (£11.2m), whereas the Giallorossi have set a €15m (£12.9m) price-tag on the Italy international.

It is believed the deal can be struck if City add a further €2m in performance-related bonuses.

Roma would then reinvest that money in the Premier League by snapping up Manchester United winger Nani.

Osvaldo is on the market after publicly insulting then-Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli following the Coppa Italia Final in May.

The 27-year-old has a history of fiery behaviour, including an incident when he punched teammate Erik Lamela, and scored 16 goals in 29 Serie A games last season.

West Bromwich Albion youngster Izzy Brown has been given permission to train with Chelsea - as the two clubs thrash out a compensation figure.

The Baggies are in talks with counterparts at Stamford Bridge over a settlement for the 16-year-old , who trained with his new club for the first time on Saturday.

Schoolboy Brown became the club’s youngest-ever Premier League debutant when he came on as a substitute against Wigan, back in May.

His departure will come as no surprise to Baggies fans but the nature of his move has gone down badly with the club all the same.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace spoke out last week against the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), mainly that players are allowed to move between Category One clubs.

The Baggies would ordinarily stand to collect £209,000 for a 12-16-year-old - with add ons for any future Premier League appearances - but the current rules were not yet in place when Brown turned 16 this year.

Brown, Albion's Academy Player of the Year , is the second youngster to leave the club in recent days, with Yan Dhanda being snapped up by Liverpool last week.

As far as Carlo Ancelotti is concerned, the signing of Asier Illarramendi – (which is expected to be made official this week) will be the finishing touch to his squad for the 2013/14 season. The Real Sociedad midfielder was signed on the coach’s express wishes. Marco Verratti was a second, outside option although Ancelotti is eager not to jeopardize his relationship with PSG by plundering his former club’s squad.

The only new addition could be that of Gareth Bale which Ancelotti considers to be a strategic move and one which is still very much up in the air. The coach plans to start work whether Bale arrives or not when the team returns for the first day back in Valdebebas next Monday.

Now the coach’s task is to decide which of his players will be moving elsewhere. The Italian believes that Madrid do not need another centre-forward, effectively ruling out the possibility of Cavani or Luis Suárez being brought in. 😀 He feels the attack is well covered with Jesé and Morata. The only question mark is over Gonzalo Higuaín and whether he can be persuaded to stay. El Pipa has a verbal agreement with Arsenal but the Gunners have not reached an accord with Real Madrid, who would only offload the striker for a fee between 30 and 35 million euros when Arsenal are willing to pay 25 million.

Sources have told ‘AS’ that Ancelotti is planning to sit down with Higuaín when the squad returns for duty on July 15th to try and convince him to stay. It will not be an easy task for the coach however as Higuaín has stated quite categorically that his spell at Madrid is over. José Mourinho did manage to persuade the player to stay put when he turned up wearing a shirt signed by his team mates during Madrid’s league title-winning celebrations in 2011. But those conversations included a verbal agreement to improve and extend Higuaín’s contract – a promise which was never fulfilled. Furthermore, the player has asked his agents to step up negotiations so that he can seal his move to Arsenal before the players are due back on July 15th.

The other Madrid players who are expected to move on this summer include José Callejón who could complete his switch to Napoli this week, Fabio Coentrao who is keen to exit the club and Ricardo Kaká. Madrid are hoping that an offer which is to the Brazilian’s satisfaction will arrive at some point before the end of August.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claims there have been no offers for Gonzalo Higuain, amid reports the striker is close to agreeing a deal with Arsenal.

The Argentine, who told the media on the final day of the La Liga season that he was going to leave the Spanish capital in the summer, was reported to be on the verge of a £23millon move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, during an interview with Univision, Perez insisted: "We don't want Higuain to leave. What's more no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table."
