Least it's not united
Spanish radio station Cadena COPE has stated that Thiago Alcantara will sign for Bayern Munich and the deal could be announced this Thursday.
Pep Guardiola had repeatedly insisted he wouldn't make a move for the player. "People have to know that Barca players are not leaving for money or desire. There are two possibilities: they dump you or you feel like you should be playing and Barcelona do not", remarked Guardiola a few days ago.
Thiago will be accomodated by moving Javi Martinez to centre-back. In addition, Barcelona midfielder is still competing with Mario Götze and Toni Kroos, two outstanding players.
Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna is undergoing a medical with Juventus this morning ahead of his transfer.
The news was announced by the official Juve website, who pictured the Italy international attending the medical centre.
It is reported the deal is worth €12m plus a further €3m in performance-related bonuses.
Napoli had offered €18m, but the player was determined to cross over to the Bianconeri.
SUNDERLAND are closing in on the signing of £5m-rated Tottenham and England midfielder Tom Huddlestone.
The Gazette first revealed the Black Cats’ interest in the 26-year-old last month, after preliminary talks were held.
Since then, little has been heard publicly, with delicate negotiations going on behind the scenes.
But a move could now to be tied up in the next few days, with Spurs understood to have accepted a price for the play-maker.
The Londoners’ chairman Daniel Levy is known for driving a notoriously hard bargain, and has a reputation for dragging out negotiations.
But this time Sunderland look set to profit from Spurs’ desire to set the ball rolling as soon as possible on their summer clear-out.
Levy, who is determined to hold on to world-class asset Gareth Bale, knows that the club has to move up to the next level to keep their superstar happy.
Already Spurs have made a statement of intent, breaking the club transfer record with the signing of £17m midfielder Paulinho, and are rumoured to be readying a £15m opening bid for free-scoring Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.
But the spending spree will need to be supported by sales, and Spurs want to get on with a major offloading of players.
As well as Huddlestone, the Gazette understands that even the likes of promising young full-back Kyle Naughton and striker Jermain Defoe can go, as well as other more obvious targets like Scott Parker, Emmanuel Adebayor and Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
High-earning under-achievers William Gallas and David Bentley have already been released after their contracts expired.
But Levy needs to begin the clear-out sooner rather than later this summer.
And with Sunderland having made a firm offer for Huddlestone, Levy has decided to accept, in a bid to set the ball rolling on White Hart Lane’s summer sales.
Huddlestone, who had become unsettled at Spurs because of his lack of first-team opportunities at the club, is ready to move.
The 6ft 3ins former Derby County prodigy played 29 games last season but was keen to be involved in many more.
“At times you think you might need to move,” he admitted.
“I am 26 now and missed a year to 18 months through injury.
“You just want to play every game.
“And if that opportunity is not at Tottenham, then I will have to look elsewhere.”
Huddlestone is under contract until 2015, which would normally put Spurs in the driving seat, especially as Hull City boss Steve Bruce has shown an interest and Fulham made an offer in January.
But Sunderland have been upfront and positive in their approach for the player – just as they were with another major target, Jozy Altidore – and that looks set to pay dividends again.
The one thing that could clearly scupper a Huddlestone move is if he fails a medical – given the serious ankle injury which sidelined him for so long at Spurs.
But there’s no doubt that a fit and in-form Huddlestone would be a tremendous addition to Sunderland’s squad.
And the ball-playing midfielder with a fearsome shot would expect to be a first-team regular next season if he signed.
Now Sunderland, who are closing in on other targets, will hope to make swift progress on the Tottenham midfielder.
The Black Cats’ pursuit of Huddlestone - just like that of 28-year-old Juventus midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini - also gives the lie to the suggestion that the club will be slavish in their adherence to the ‘Udinese model’ where they would only interested in buying young players of promise with a potential high re-sale value.
All I know about Ogbonna is that he's a beast on FIFA, and that he drove his SmartCar off a bridge and came out of the wreck uninjured.
I do have a feeling that he will pan out very well though, many consider him one of the best young defensive players in Italy.
And according to Spanish radio, COPE, Thiago will join Bayern and not Utd.
God I hope thats true..
He's going to bayern then
Former boss, European champions. Both good reasons
Manchester United are interested in bringing Cagliari defender Davide Astori to the Premier League, reports claim.
Respected journalist Alfredo Pedulla believes that David Moyes’ side are keen to sign the centre-back and could make a bid within the next few weeks.
The English champions are looking to spend around €13m on the Italy international, but the Isolani are hoping for upwards of €15m.
The Milan youth graduate was virtually ever-present for Ivo Pulga’s men last term, playing 32 Serie A matches last time around.
Gareth Bale, who turns 24 next Tuesday, is the dream signing for Florentino Pérez, Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti. The Welshman is the man they all want to complete the seductive project the Italian coach is building at the club, and on which he will begin work on 15 July, when the players meet for pre-season training.
AS has been informed that, in addition to the signings of Isco, Carvajal and Casemiro, and with Illarramendi set to follow suite, the club are going to promote Jése and Morata, top scorers in the under-20 World Cup and under-21 European Championships respectively, to the first team.
The club view Bale as the icing on the cake of the post-Mourinho era. And they have pulled the strings to make this dream a reality.
In case there were any doubt, this newspaper was granted access to the club’s offices in the Bernabéu a few days ago. On display was next season’s Real Madrid shirt, bearing Bale’s name and the number 11, the same number the midfielder wears for Tottenham and Wales.
This is a measure of the importance Florentino and his colleagues want to give the best player in the Premier League, if his transfer is finally made possible.
“If a world class player like Bale signs for us, then of course we would give him the shirt he has always worn and the one he likes the most,” said a club employee.
Carvajal has been given the 15 shirt vacated by Essien, while the 23 Isco will wear has been free since last summer. Carvalho has left Madrid for Monaco and subsequently freed up the number 11 shirt, and the club hope that its next owner will be Bale.
If Florentino’s past behaviour in the transfer market is anything to go by, the Madrid president will fight until 31 August, the day the transfer window shuts, to convince Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to sell up.
The first contacts between the clubs were as fruitless as they were disheartening. Madrid were told 100 million euros would be the starting point, and may even have to pay up to a whopping 150 million euros. However, Florentino is adept at dealing with club head honchos, from Agnelli and Moratti to Ferguson, from whom he bought Zidane, Ronaldo and Beckham and Cristiano respectively, despite all three men declaring that those players were “not for sale”.
Florentino and chief executive José Ángel Sánchez are to travel with the team to England on 21 July for the friendly with Bournemouth. On that day, Ancelotti’s Madrid will play their first game of the pre-season. Pérez and Sánchez plan to use the visit to meet with a contact from Spurs to discuss the move further.
What is certain is that Madrid will not be backed into paying 100 million euros for Bale. But nor are they ruling out offering Spurs a player or two in order to make the operation a bit cheaper.
They already have a kit with his nr and name on it??
Looks like "Bale" was written on with a marker...
Is Huddlestone good?
Milan have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Keisuke Honda on a free transfer in January.
The Japanese international playmaker’s brother and agent met with Rossonero Vice-President Adriano Galliani and intermediary Ernesto Bronzetti today.
Believed to be discussing a deal for the 27-year-old former Lazio target, Sky Sport 24 understand that the club have agreed to pick up the player at the expiry of his current deal.
The CSKA Moscow player is out of contract in January and Milan have today reportedly made official with his agent and brother an agreement to sign him then.
It is believed that the deal could be brought forward to this summer in the form of a transfer arranged with CSKA, but only if the Rossoneri sell players in the coming weeks.
