I think its 18 in 71, but yeah your point is still valid. I was about to wrote that yesterday, that he doesnt score enough goals to command such a fee.

I'd like our AMs to be scoring at that sort of rate or better.

Coutinho, who we all think has the potential to be more prolific has 18 in 96 for us.

Morata can fuck off.

A lot of those appearances are sub appearances so you can't really get the full value of it but he's not worth £45mill

For 45 mill I agree completly. The only way I'd sign Morata would be a loan and an option to buy.
If it didnt work out then back you go.

He's obviously not worth 45m (and neither have we bid that) but I'd be happy with signing Morata.

He's got physical presence aligned to his skill and is used to being the point of attack in a 'big' team.

Morata and Xhaka for instance would represent a big step forward this window.

I got a message from a mate (works in Footy TV production) this morning saying we're trying for Long on loan.

If I was Klopp I'd be very reluctant to buy a striker at this point. We have Sturridge, Benteke, Ings, Origi, Balotelli on the books this season so I'd be more inclined to get by with what I have unless a deal too good to decline turned up.

Otherwise I'd promote youth (as he's doing) as a stop gap this season. It amounts to ticking over for another season but the new manager needs time to take stock before panic wheeling and dealing. We aren't going to be relegated.

Noted, but "could move", "if so" - there are ifs and buts there. I could be reading too much into this, but to me it feels a bit like he knows he should be ambitious enough to make such a change but his heart may not really be in it.
Sounds to me more like he's just being very respectful to OM.

Well Balo won't be coming back, Origi won't be our lead striker for now, if ever, Sturridge is perma-injured so obviously can't be relied on, Ings is out for the season and Benteke is quickly proving he, very disappointingly, can't play in this team.
Considering how poor we've been in front of goal most of the season I'd say a striker, that suits our style and knows where the back of the net is, most definitely IS a priority. And the sooner the better.

Spanish players adapt to the prem league quite well, what do you think of Borja González Tomás? He plays for Eiber but onloan from Athletico scored 12 goals in 19 appearances only 23.

Seeing as he's on loan it cant happen until the summer anyway.

I'd sign him purely for being able to call him van Baston

Don't really see why they'd give him to us on loan. Makes zero sense from Southampton's point of view. Maybe they promised us a delayed reacharound for all the times they bent us over.

I like Morata. His playing style reminds me of a young Torres. I presumed Rafa would exercise a buy back option as he knew him from their time in Italy but with Rafa gone perhaps Madrid won't come back in. 45 million is a silly amount though. I'd be amazed if he went for anything close to that.

[article]The clause rises as time goes on, so Real Madrid would have to pay €30m to get Morata in 2016 and €35m in 2017.

Other clubs are also interested in the Spain international, but the contract has another clause forcing them to pay at least €80m for the striker.

In that scenario, two thirds of the money would go to Juve and the other third to Real Madrid.[/article]

14 - With his brace today, Borja Bastón became the Spanish top scorer of this La Liga season. Revelation.

What's his transfer value?

I just bothered to read his wiki page. I approve this transfer.

Apparently he started out as a goal keeper. He could start as a striker: score for us, and then we can bench Ming and get this lad to be the goalie so we can close out the game. It's perfect.

I dunno what happens if the opponents score first. I haven't thought this one through.....but there is plenty of time till the next game to figure that one out. Get it done.

I wonder what Klopp's plan is for Firmino - with our injuries up front, Firmino's been playing as a lone forward or earlier on, a strike partner for Benteke. Is that where Klopp sees as his position in the long run though?

Klopp has a few decisions to make at the end of the season; the answers to which will affect whether we get another striker, and what sort of striker (proven vs potential) we go after in the summer.

Does he stick with Firmino if the Brazilian continues to do well as a centre forward between now and the end of the summer?

Does he show patience with Benteke and hope to bring him around to play better with the team through intensive sessions during the pre-season? There's surely great temptation to want to work with a player of his physical stature and goal-scoring ability (at Villa at least). Besides, Klopp has worked successfully with other big forwards before so perhaps that would give him and his staff the confidence to get more out of Benteke.

Does he stick with Sturridge even if Sturridge returns and plays about 10 to 12 games for the rest of the season? Or does he cash in and sell him, anticipating a possible breakdown again in the new season?

I don't think we'll get a new striker in this winter window as I think Klopp might want to take a longer term view instead of getting stuck with 6 strikers in the summer. He's said something to that effect as well, though of course, we might want to take utterances in press conferences with a pinch of salt.

Firmino lacks serious pace - was evident on multiple occasions yesterday. He has a complete inability to run past players. He can nutmeg them, but not go around.

So, we desperately need pace at the moment. Origi, Sturridge and Ings can all provide that. So best option now is a loan for a striker with pace to stretch defenses and provide space for Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana to exploit.

We could sell Sturridge and replace, but I think one of the Origi and/or Ings will come good.

Does Texiera have enough pace to stretch defenses. He's quick, but does not seem fast over 30-40 yards. Only truly fast player fit right now is Ibe.

I've seen the future and it's Italian striker Kevin Lasagne. If we can get him, Dorfmaier, and a good DM we could make a late push for 4th.

Bors Ovroks, but not sure if he's actually better as a CB or DM. Pretty versatile. He's a real handful and beast in the opposing box on the occasions that he gets in there.
