Stoke post match thoughts

Well, I said I'd be happy with three points & I am.

Utd were worse than us yesterday & most people expect something close to a title challenge from them. Arsenal were dreadful too.

First game done, three points in the bag, & clean sheet. Lovren played well, Mignolet played well, Benteke looks promising despite a lack of match fitness that shows.

I'm relatively happy.

We don't look completely match fit but the defence looks a lot more stable. Clyne is clearly a really good player. Ibe seems to be playing as if he's under too much pressure.

One game isn't a trend

Just like two years ago that, tight game, but we got a one nil win, hopefully the season goes the same way.

Plus points;
Defence looks solid
Gomez especially
Benteke looked decent when he had people around him
Ibe was good
Benteke looks like a great asset to have when we are trying to starve off the game
Coutinho's long shots.

Minus points;
We looked dour and lifeless most of the game
Benteke completely isolated
Didn't see much from Henderson and Milner

It's a great result, and I'm glad how well we defended, but by fuck I hope our attack looked so shit because it was out of practise, because it was dire.

Not trying to glitter the turd but that Gomez looks solid doesn't he. Not bad for your prem debut away at Stoke. At with Clyne as well it would seem we have some full backs who know where they should be positioned at last

They were. They improved a shitload after pigclimber came on but were still completely ineffectual in the final third despite zero pressing against them.

After seeing how badly others started we should be delighted to grab three points

Coutinho looked like a midget in the post goal celebrations.

Lovren is very good today.

Milner looks like he will be a very good signing - tenacious, composed and committed.

Clyne was a little shaky in the 2nd half but looks like an improvement defensively.

Berneke tried hard but was a little meh. We at least have someone constantly up front now.

Gomez looks good, a little panicky at times but looks defensively more secured than Moreno.

Firmino good cameo, got stuck in and looks more dangerous in 12 odd mins than Lallana did for the whole game.

Lallana, very poor.

... We were completely ineffectual in the final third as well! Difference being they were playing a better side.

Our goal came from a stupidly good effort out the blue, United got an own goal (even though Rooney would have scored if Walker didn't toe poke it)

We, were shite and no where near full form, but to say we were better than other sides this weekend is silly.

He'll, arsenal lost 2 nil and we're better than us
