Stoke fans about Assaidi

True, I like the fact that he has the ambition to play for us and not just settle with Stoke. Might be the reason why he's improving.
He seems to have worked on the defensive side of his game. Just has to be less wasteful.
I think this loan has done him some good. So with him Suso and Wisdom coming back we might be sorted in the squad player department next season.

I think his strength has always been dribbling/skilling, so I'd love to see a lot more of that in his game. If he can establish himself as a threat that can beat a man, I think he would create a lot of space in attack, much like Coutinho/Suarez have been shown to do.

I see no reason why he can't slot into our side on occasion, especially considering how bad Moses has been.

I wonder if Assaidi's success is related to the Salah move slowing down a bit. Most recent reports make it sound like we're less interested in Salah now.

I hope we keep him - he can still contribute something here, and we need another North African (right @hmmmmm1? 😉) to help Salah settle properly.

I hope he comes back. He's definitely a better squad option that most of the dross we've had for years

I was very confused at how he was handled by Rodgers last year and assumed we had seen the last of him when he went out on loan. Has been a nice surprise how well he has done. Certainly would rather have him than Moses or probably Aspas on this evidence.

Besides the two excellent strikes against Chelsea and Everton how has he been doing otherwise?

Most of them seem to think that he needs to get better at crossing to Crouch and Jones. That's the kind of talk that makes you end up signing Pennant and Adam.

From that thread they are saying he has worked a lot on the defensive side of his game, lots of tracking back and helping out the full back now, something he lacked with us, he always offered us something up front i thought though end product didn't look convincing from what we saw of him, so hes improving all round by the looks of it.

I'ld still be suprised if we see him or Borini in a red shirt again.

Whenever I watched him play for us last season I was pleasantly surprised and wondered why he didnt get more minutes for us.

I think his stint at Stoke has confirmed the fact I thought he could do a job for us, just hope Brendan realises it before spending money on others.... He certainly has done more in the league this season than Aspas!

This, I always thought he looked dangerous when he played. Maybe he's a bit too much of a luxury player who drifts in and out of games and doesn't give enough to the team, but he's certainly looking good as a direct player looking to have a shot around the box.

I agree with this.

As for being a luxury player, he can't certainly be any worse than Moses who admittedly has all the attributes of being a good player but makes all too often the wrong choices. I hope Assaidi's spell at Stoke is also instilling in him the obligation to track back and defend, and hence an increase in stamina and fitness.

These comments about Assaidi tracking/not tracking back interest me. He actually tracked back quite a bit in his earliest games for us in the Europa League and I remember thinking "this lad really wants to do well here". Hopefully what we're now seeing is the real Assaidi coming back.

I wasn't really saying that's what he does, I meant it's the only kind of reasoning I can fathom. He looked good (I thought) last season on his few fleeting cameo's, alot more of a threat than a few other players getting in ahead of him, so I could only assume the rest of his game was an issue. It's ok anyway, Ryan's told us unequivocally that he's not good enough (shite, no one's as shite as Assaidi, he couldn't get on the bench for a team that finished 7th), because he's seen so much of him, in the league cup or whatever. Gotta listen to the oracle after all.

agree, he now seems to be adding goals too.

I always assumed his off the ball play was why Rodgers never really bothered with him because he did offer something attacking wise, the luxury player description is a good one though maybe not so much nowadays if the Stoke fans are right, they allude on that thread he wasn't any good without the ball but that he is now a lot better lately in his defensive work.

[article=http://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/assaidi-unsure-where-his-future-lies#6WJLfCRSfxQ8IeHI.99]Oussama Assaidi has hinted that he would be interested in staying at Stoke City when his loan spell finishes at the end of the season.

The Morocco winger joined Stoke on a season-long loan from Liverpool in August after failing to break into the first team at Anfield.

Assaidi, 25, has made an impressive impact at the Britannia Stadium and scored his third league goal in the last six league games as Mark Hughes' side drew 1-1 with Everton on New Year's Day.

The former Heerenveen man is unsure whether he has a future on Merseyside and, for the time being, is relishing the opportunity to show what he is capable of at Stoke.

"I don't know what is going to happen with me," Assaidi said. "Sometimes (Liverpool manager) Brendan Rodgers texts me, but I don't know.

"I am very happy here, because Mark Hughes has made me better, giving me a lot of confidence and letting me do my job the way I want to.

"Everyone at the club seems to like me. We will see at the end of the year what happens."

Elaborating on the contact he has received from Rodgers, Assaidi added: "He texts me sometimes if I score, saying 'well done', 'keep going' and 'I am hearing good things about you'.

"But I love to play here for Stoke because they have given me a chance."[/article]

I'ld still be suprised if we see him or Borini in a red shirt again.

I caught the first half of Sunderlands game last week and Borini looked very lively in it and was unlucky not to have one or two. He then went to hospital at the half with a virus unfortunately.

He looked better than what he has showed with us and I wouldnt mind seeing him back.

Maybe because he rarely got past him man (often losing possession in the process), his crossing was poor and he didn't track back !

He looked like there was a good player in there somewhere and his NL highlights reel shows he has the skills. But the PL sorts the men from the boys. If he learns at Stoke to do what he did in the NL then I'd want him back .... if not, sell.

I like Borini. I hope we keep him and see what he can offer us next season; I think he could work as one of the front two. Just hope he gets more minutes and goals at Sunderland in the 2nd half of the season to convince people that he's worth retaining.

Assaidi I'm more ambivalent about, because he plays in a position where we've got guys coming through (Ibe, Teixeira, possibly Peterson depending on how his development pans out while he's on loan), returning from loan (Suso) or capable of doing a decent / good job already (Sterling).

You heard me. Rodgers never really wanted Assaidi, he wanted Sinclair. Assaidi was imposed on Rodgers by Robbie Keane.

Robbie Keane works for Liverpool? THAT Robbie Keane? Is there another Robbie Keane who I've never heard about? I'm totally confused now.
