But it's dangerous to flout what is socially acceptable behaviour, for all sorts of reasons. Players are essentially dependent on some degree of approval from society: think of the reaction of crowds, and how their image determines what they can earn.
When they already have so much power to get what they want via less openly obnoxious means, why deliberately risk making themselves pariahs?
And that's all accepting your rather defeatist claim that 'all' players care about is money and success, as if some new class of vile automaton has been created in football academies. I don't believe it, for the most part.
Most players are like that. It is as if people have forgotten about the Suarez, Torres, and Mascherano saga. Several examples of other players for other clubs.
The biggest mistake Aidy Ward has done is brake the rules of diplomacy which is critical for negotiation. If you are sitting down to negotiate a contract with a company, you may think that one of the legends who played a big role in the company's past is a knob, but you dont verbalize it.
I guess the next stage would be to drop Sterling from the squad for Stoke.
Wouldn't it be funny if Woy sent him packing from the England squad for being "not focused" or something.
There's a further problem though in that he has said that he and his client won't sign a new contract anyway.
So what is there to negotiate?

This should go in the Random Shite thread, but are vegetarian shits considered worse than normal ones?
It would be nice if JH decided he's not bothered about the £50 million and told the manager to play him in the reserves for the whole of the 2015/16 season.
His agent wouldn't look like a big man then, would he?
I just don't believe players as a rule will want to wantonly cause unpleasantness and stir up hatred for themselves for what are pretty marginal, possibly even non-existent, gains. There are dozens of big players out there. Maybe hundreds if you go back a few years. The examples you can name are the exceptions which prove the rule.
Remember, no-one would be complaining if the briefing had never happened and Sterling had just issued a civil explanation along with a transfer request. He'd basically be in the same position (lose a bit of money on the request, no big deal) and yet with an unblemished reputation (there's your money back). Wouldn't that be a more self-serving way to proceed for the young and ambitious mercenary?

Agreed. I am not saying what Ward did is correct. He is basically trying the same strategy of Suarez when he tried to engineer the move to Arsenal. Create a PR storm where his position at Liverpool is untenable and force a move. .
Suarez largely kept his mouth shut
#LFC have cancelled tomorrow's meeting with Aidy Ward. 'Don't care,' said Ward in a statement. 'Their meeting room stinks of piss, anyway.'
Paddy Power TweetCan't be arsed checking, is this for realsies?
Alonso is just good at PR with the fans. He could probably walk into my living room, take a dump on my couch and convince me that he had done a good thing.
