Sterling to Tell Rodgers he wants to leave this summer

But it's dangerous to flout what is socially acceptable behaviour, for all sorts of reasons. Players are essentially dependent on some degree of approval from society: think of the reaction of crowds, and how their image determines what they can earn.

When they already have so much power to get what they want via less openly obnoxious means, why deliberately risk making themselves pariahs?

And that's all accepting your rather defeatist claim that 'all' players care about is money and success, as if some new class of vile automaton has been created in football academies. I don't believe it, for the most part.

Most players are like that. It is as if people have forgotten about the Suarez, Torres, and Mascherano saga. Several examples of other players for other clubs. The boundaries are being pushed each time.

The biggest mistake Aidy Ward has done is brake the rules of diplomacy which is critical for negotiation. If you are sitting down to negotiate a contract with a company, you may think that one of the legends who played a big role in the company's past is a knob, but you dont verbalize it.

There's a further problem though in that he has said that he and his client won't sign a new contract anyway.

So what is there to negotiate?

I guess the next stage would be to drop Sterling from the squad for Stoke.

Wouldn't it be funny if Woy sent him packing from the England squad for being "not focused" or something.

John Henry and the Red Sox regularly deals with the biggest vulture of an agent in world sport in Scott Boras. If he can deal with him he can deal with this fucking wanker.

We should make him sit smack bang in the middle of the Liverpool fans, see where that cunt Ward is then.

Agreed. I am not saying what Ward did is correct. He is basically trying the same strategy of Suarez when he tried to engineer the move to Arsenal. Create a PR storm where his position at Liverpool is untenable and force a move. Unfortunately at that time, John Henry did not blink. I think the same will happen this time also.

#LFC have cancelled tomorrow's meeting with Aidy Ward. 'Don't care,' said Ward in a statement. 'Their meeting room stinks of piss, anyway.'

I just don't believe players as a rule will want to wantonly cause unpleasantness and stir up hatred for themselves for what are pretty marginal, possibly even non-existent, gains. There are dozens of big players out there. Maybe hundreds if you go back a few years. The examples you can name are the exceptions which prove the rule.

Remember, no-one would be complaining if the briefing had never happened and Sterling had just issued a civil explanation along with a transfer request. He'd basically be in the same position (lose a bit of money on the request, no big deal) and yet with an unblemished reputation (there's your money back). Wouldn't that be a more self-serving way to proceed for the young and ambitious mercenary?

Henry should invite Ward to the states to discuss Sterlings position....

.... then feast on his carcass with his other lizard friends.

This should go in the Random Shite thread, but are vegetarian shits considered worse than normal ones?

Interesting question. I was told by a nurse friend of mine a while back that veggies do tend to fart more often and more noxiously, so perhaps a similar effect may be observed when, as it were, the solids hit the air-conditioning.

It would be nice if JH decided he's not bothered about the £50 million and told the manager to play him in the reserves for the whole of the 2015/16 season.
His agent wouldn't look like a big man then, would he?

We shouldn't even play him in the reserves - those places in the team should be much better used for sharpening other youngsters.

To me, the PR associated with the move does not matter. The critical issue is reducing the incidents of top quality players from moving. Of course we cant prevent that 100% given that Man Utd are successful and still lose players. Alonso supposedly moved the right way compared to Mascher. Both of them forced the club to get what they wanted. But when Mascher moved there was lot more angst and the main difference to me is that Alonso is just good at PR with the fans. He could probably walk into my living room, take a dump on my couch and convince me that he had done a good thing.

He's not studied it carefully, though. Suarez largely kept his mouth shut and left it to his agent, and his agent, while planting stuff that irritated people, never overstepped the mark in terms of proper behaviour. Plenty of agents do the same without resorting to issuing threats and insults and generally bypassing the conventional means of negotiation. Ward is acting like some teenager who doesn't really know how an agent really acts. He;s ignoring the contract, he's ignoring the very reliable means of communication with the club and now he's resorted to name-calling. You only do that unless you're (a) mad or (b) seriously doubtful that you have the ability, and composure, to sit in a room with club officials and argue, calmly, your case. Presumably there is a way of formally accusing an agent of bringing the game into disrepute - players and managers have done far less and been punished for it - so the club should be looking really closely at compiling a list of this idiot's misdemeanours.

The thing is, any agent, in any area, needs to maintain the trust of businesses as well as clients. The problem with football is that immaturity and insularity is a problem right across the profession, and it's not limited to kids. Other clubs, if they had any sense, would be siding with Liverpool over this to guard against it happening to them in the future. But they won't, because, like dogs dazzled by a bone, they can't resist trying to exploit the situation. Then down the line, Wenger or someone will snap into his Mr Principled mode when it happens to one of his own players. They're a contemptible bunch.

You'd have Xabi Alonso's shit on your coach, of course it's a good thing.

called me old fashioned, but whilst I applaud the actions of the club, I feel as though some of our 'fans' are playing into the PR war and making it easier for Wards malicious messages to find a welcoming home on young Raheem. We need to remind all that he is still a red and unless he crosses the itandje line, he'll NWA.
