Sterling impasse continues

Rodgers, meanwhile, has dismissed the idea his eulogising of Raheem Sterling has contributed to the excessive wage demands during contract talks.

It is claimed Sterling’s representative Aidy Ward wants his client be paid a salary worthy of the 'most exciting youngster in Europe’ because that’s how Rodgers described the 20-year-old.

“So it’s my fault then?” said Rodgers.

“Last year I said at this moment in time I am not sure there is a better young player in Europe.

"Everyone sat back and looked at me but when they went away, looked at it and analysed the young players who are playing in Europe and in particular teenagers there were hardly any.

"He was certainly at that time one of the top ones, but I didn’t say he was the best young player overall in Europe. But if they want to blame me, they can blame me.

“It would be disappointing if an honest opinion on a player at the moment you are asked is used as a stick to beat you with. But it doesn’t surprise me, it is the modern world. It is what happens.

"I will always talk well of my players when they are doing well. I think it gives them great encouragement. I still think he has a lot of development to go and this is the best place for him. It is pretty obvious that this is a great place for him to be and he has said that himself.”

Ok so I say we offer him 150k a week under the strict caveat that every time he serves up shit like this he has to pay us 50k

Yea, I hate all this "I'm leaving it till the end of the season so I can concentrate on the run in" shite.

It's doing the exact opposite you freakishly strong little fairy!

Walcott has started talks to extend his current contract, which will have 12 months left to run at the end of the season, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is steeling himself for protracted negotiations.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was interested in signing Walcott before he put pen to paper on his present £100,000-a-week deal in January 2013 and would be confident of coaxing the player's full potential from him.
The Anfield club will now monitor talks between the two parties aware the complications they are enduring with Sterling mean they must consider alternative options.

Liverpool are keen to bring Theo Walcott to Anfield if his contract talks at Arsenal stall
A meeting between Rodgers and Sterling's representative, Aidy Ward, last week did not lead to a breakthrough in a saga which began last October when Liverpool opened talks to extend the England winger's contract which is due to expire in 2017.
Sterling, who was included in the England squad along with Walcott yesterday, has turned down around £90,000-a-week and bonuses and talks have been shelved until the summer.
It will then be clear whether Liverpool are in the Champions League which would be crucial to any hope of securing Walcott, 26, whose ability, like that of Sterling, to play in an array of forward positions would appeal to Rodgers.
Walcott will seek an increase on his present deal, although the likelihood of playing regular first team football should be the single most important factor determining where his futurenow lies.

Theo Walcott can suck my balls. I wouldn't mind having him if he wasn't permanently injured and paid a fortune.

Walcott is obsessed with the idea that he is best suited to playing as a number nine. He's not going anywhere to play in a wide role.

The Walcott scenario is probably how the Sterling contract will play out. Arsenal offered him 75K, he wanted 120K (or something close to that). Arsenal returned with 90K, and then they finally settled for 100K for 3.5 years. Now it's contract renewal time again, but with Sanchez on board and Oxlade-Chamberlain's development, the Goons have a stronger hand this time.

I think they'll probably end up selling him to City, who need to add association-trained players with Milner probably leaving, Lampard gone and perhaps Boyata dumped as well (useless anyway).

Hasn't he been linked with us for about 5 years now?

On and off, yes. I could see him going abroad rather than to City. He is still adamant he's a centre forward. I doubt there's a top club here that will play him in that role.

Indeed. Wenger's tried it but even he's never stuck with it. You'd think Jersey Joe would have got the message by now.

Yeah, Wallcott is far from shit, but I don't think he's completed more than 30% of a season ever, so it's a no go.

Putting aside your quite understandable hatred of the arse I don't think you could say Walcott is shit. However he is not as good as Stirling and hopelessly injury prone so why the fuck would we offer him a better contract

Ok, you got me. He is however one long injury, flatters to deceive and is nowhere near as good as Sterling.

Yeah, Wallcott is far from shit, but I don't think he's completed more than 30% of a season ever, so it's a no go.

He's not FAr from shit. He's a bit shit. He could never do what Sterling does as RWB for example. He's one of the reasons Arsenal fail. Wenger insists of forward-thinking players that have no defensive attributes. Look at when we dumped them out the CL. Same as their home leg this year against Monaco. Wouldn't suit us and I wouldn't want him. How would he be on less than Sterling anyway?

I wish Sterling was as good in front of goal as Walcott.
Other than that im with you

Yeah he's right, but attackers being able to defend is a moot point, the lad is permanently injured. If he was always fit but not that great at defending, I could like with that, most sides would, he's an attacker. It's only because of our setup and our willingness to develop Sterling as an all round player, that has seen him become a more complete package. I'd rather have Sterling any day, but as a separate entity, a fit Walcott would grace most sides.

Yeah Walcott is a good player. I don't mind him at all. He always speaks well and is very respectful bar that time he mocked the Spurs fans but fuck them like.

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool forward delays talks on new deal
Raheem Sterling has put contract talks with Liverpool on hold until the end of the season, says boss Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds manager said Sterling and his representatives had told the club he wanted to concentrate on his football.
The 20-year-old England forward's current deal expires in 2017 and he has yet to agree terms over a new contract.
"It has been made clear by Raheem's representative he wants to concentrate on his football and see what can be resolved in the summer," said Rodgers.
"I am sure it will be resolved and the concentration for Raheem is now on his football, and it is clear when those talks will begin again."
Sterling has been linked with Real Madrid and Chelsea but Rodgers said in February that Liverpool would not pay over the odds to keep him at Anfield.

Something major needs or change before agents & players won't demand their share of a huge new financial input.

That's why I suggested that all clubs allocated 25% or more as an agreed figure across the board in the league to ticket price reductions from the new bumper tv money rise.

That way no club would lose out by having more to spend from that cash & there would be less for players to fight over.
