Sterling Deal Complete: 49 million (44 + 5)

Depends. They're nowhere near as bad as you make them sound.

It's a bit lose lose though, if he fails and City and City fail, we get nothing. If City win stuff then that means that we probably won't, but we'll get some monetary compensation for the pleasure.

And also virtually all deals seem to have some element of incentivisation. It's just how they're done. No biggie.

They are. As I said, they're not designed for established players. What do you think they'll be? When he gets 100 England caps? When he scores 30 goals a season? They're not designed to be realised at this level. They're really for players like Sterling when he was at QPR. There the small club can confidently plan add-ons that will probably result in extra payments.

Yeah I get that, I'm just being pessimistic, if it's appearance based or whatever then fine, I'm sure he'll tot up enough despite us all hoping he'll rot on the bench.

They're just face savers. That's all they are at this level. They're there so the selling club can claim to the press and the fans they got what they wanted while the buying club giggles in the background.

£45m+£5m is still a good fee. Like I say, I'd prefer us not to be selling, but he's made the situation barely manageable. For a 20yr old on the back of about 2yrs at this level and one that's capable of moments of brilliance, but equally capable of a run of average form, it's well inflated.

This is only a reported fee anyway, let's see what happens.

I just can't get my head round the fact he's had a couple of good seasons (one in a poor season for LFC overall) and suddenly it looks like he might be sold for £45m+ Ha ha - Fuck me! Crazy days.

Yes, but we won't get the £5m! As for his power to make the situation unmanageable for us, well, it's equal to our power to make it unmanageable for him. If we have indeed caved in, it's very bad long-term.

One assumes it'll probably be based on City's success, trophies and maybe even CL qualification.

It's usually pretty feasible, it's not like 100 England appearances. It's usually something like 10, or a trophy, or a certain number of domestic appearances. It's not really accurate to say we won't get them, because it's not something the selling club are going to readily agree to otherwise. It's just a way around paying off part of the fee in installments.

If I had to guess there'll be 2.5 based on fairly modest qualifications - appearances, England caps etc. Then half on much less likely ones - PL and CL trophies etc.

We've included add ons in both the Firmino and Clyne deals. If its appearances related then it isn't that bad.

I'd guess Arsenal weren't trying their luck when they included the £3m add on (for winning CL) to the £12m fee for Vermaelen too.

I doubt we (or Hoffenheim/Southampton) will accept add ons that aren't realistic.

And although it probably doesn't matter much (seeing how UEFA's stance isn't firm), add ons probably won't count towards FFP?

Guardian reporting that it's 40m + 4m in add-ons.

thats caving in, if that's the agreed fee

I doubt we'll know if we caved in, will we?

Raheem Sterling has signed for Man City for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £48m

it'll be something like that

Pretty much Mark, it'll be undisclosed with various outlets reporting different speculated fees. People will pick out which ever one suits their agenda.

sounds about right

I was really hoping there would be some twist that would leave Raheem up shit creek

It's a shame we're not playing them in this pre-season, I think a fair few players will be out to get him in games this season, not just for us.

According to Bascombe we're still in discussions about the fee.
I think the bid is 45 + 5 mill but we want other criterias for the add ons than City winning silverware.

Its insane to think that if this goes through there are only 9 more expencive signings made in the World.
50 mill for Sterling. Fucking hell. At lest 15 mill more than what it should be.

Hats off to the club here, they've done everything right. I hate losing the best young player we've had for yonks but he's such a fucking monstrous cunt that its alright.
There are just so many incident now and the reported unrest within the squad.

IF we spend the money wisely and get 2 great signings the team will be better off.
I'm not holding my breath though.

Hopefully he'll get his fair share during the season. That's one nice thing, we get to cheer instead on wince when someone gives him a boot

I'm not sure it's about agendas Mark.

We started off the summer by saying that Sterling wasn't for sale, then seemingly compromised to say we wouldn't consider anything less than 50m, and now seem to be accepting a bid which, what ever figure you want to believe, is less than 50m.

We starred down City & Sterling - but we blinked first.

I hated Fabregas for that tackle he made on him, now I tend to look back on it with affection.

It's only mooted that we were holding out for £50m, we've got near enough that much. I don't think the situation was as simple as £50m or nothing, he clearly can't stay and rot, however good that sounds on paper.
