Sterling Deal Complete: 49 million (44 + 5)

The main problem with the idea of mediation in this case is that, even though Suarez - wonderful player for sure - wasn't at the front of the queue for either brains or maturity, Sterling still manages to be well behind him in both respects. It was possible to get through to Suarez eventually, but I doubt there's room in Sterling's tiny mind for anything but his own thoughts (I use the term loosely) and wishes.

I don't think that's fair, Suarez had a different upbringing, very different, but with literally nothing he managed to make the most of his talent. Sterling has grown up in relative luxury, had an education, so what's his excuse, poor him he didn't have a father, boo fucking hoo. He's a grade one spoilt cunt who is going to piss his limited talent away sitting on the bench. With his ridiculous lifestyle, £37k a week won't go very far either. It's good to see though.

After tax, Sterling will take home about one million a year on his current deal. That's peanuts, a few bad investments, a divorce, child support, some lawyers and agents ripping him off and he'll have nothing left. Which will be even better to see.

If he hasn't signed for city (or anyone else) when the transfer window closes I'd be surprised if he doesn't change his stance on the contract that's been offered to him. It could be a similar situation to Suarez where he extends his contract for another couple of years in exchange for a massive leap in wages and a minimum release clause in the new contract. Otherwise he faces losing out on millions in the meantime.
Ideally the club would get the 50 million from city and Sterling gets what he wants and Liverpool don't lose face. We don't want to be perceived as being out manouvered or dictated to by a 20 year old with a mouthy agent by giving in to his demands and releasing him for less than we estimate is his worth.
Southampton have shown the way recently by stating a figure (or letting the figure be known via the press etc) and then not budging unless they get the money they want. We should know because we vastly overpaid for at least two of the players we have bought from them.

That contract was rapidly taken off the table. There is no way he'll get offered it again, even if he begs for it, the only response will be to tell him to earn it by performing well this season. That will itself be hard as a permanently unused substitute.

If he doesn't go by September it could suit both parties in the short term. He gets more money , which it seems is his prime motivation and Liverpool get to keep a player who has to play well enough that another club will pay 50 million for.
Mind you lets see if he's on the plane tomorrow first. The other thing that could happen if he's stiil here by September is you think that Aidy Ward would have been ditched by then. You would assume that Ward has told Sterling that he'd secure a move for him this summer and if he fails to do that then why would you retain his services.

Seems Delph is turning the Mancs down. Right, that will be 60 mil for Sterling now, thank you very much.

when/if they do offer £50m we should fuck them about by saying the QPR 20% is on top of the 50m we plan to bank from the sale

Anyway, apparently Sterling got the cold shoulder in training from a few players (bless) and Rodgers is still insisting he's not for sale.

Hence the sudden bout of illness.

Anyone in particular? Bring Agger back for a session.

City doesn't necessarily need English players. Any nationality is fine as long as the chap was registered for three consecutive seasons or 36 months with a member club of the England/Wales FA when they were between 16 to 21 years of age. Almost all of the guys who meet this criteria will be English, of course.

So they could buy Suso from Milan, for example, if they think he's good enough. And they might keep their Portuguese youngster Marcos "Rony" Lopes (looks like a talented player; was on loan to Lille last season) this season. Schneiderlin qualifies as home grown too, and I'd rather City got him than United or Arsenal. Sigurdsson counts as home grown too, and he's resurrected his career enough at Swansea to bury it again at City.

Anyway, if their 17 foreign players are mostly top quality and fit, then the home grown thing doesn't hurt them that much. Teams usually just use 21 or 22 players in the league I think, so they could easily just rebuild their foreign legion and get younger there, while mixing in 3 or 4 home growns who're decent enough to do a job on the odd occasion they're called upon.

It's not a killer thing to not have enough home grown players right now. It could be though, if the new proposed rules get approved, which will see the foreign player quota reduced to 13 eventually. Now, if they're anticipating that, then it makes sense to jump ahead and snap up HG players before things get crazy.

My gut feeling is Sterling will still be a Liverpool player come September. And yes, he will sign a new contract a few months into the season.

If he is, then we've sent out a hell of a message out to readdressing player power. First, Suarez and then Sterling.

I wonder if this might lead to the increased stipulation of release clauses by players joining us.

Maybe its way way more than the press are reporting.
Maybe its already over 50m but weve agreed not to say.

Sad day to be loosing such great talent.

50 million is decent, though as always depends on who we buy.

£45M + add-ons is a ludicrously large sum of money for a 20-year old with one decent season under his belt.

Totally and utterly ridiculous

I just hate that the little fucker is getting his own way.

So do I. He's made the situation pretty impossible though, it's a good deal and he's proving to be a distraction, but we should never really smart over losing top young talent, whatever the price.

If he gets injured when we plays for city I'll be as happy as when Owen's injuries mounted at Newcastle. Can't wait till his hamstring's twang.
