Sterling Deal Complete: 49 million (44 + 5)

Sterling is a brilliant player already in my book. By the time he's 21 he'll have competed in a World Cup and European Championship. He is automatic starter for club and country. He had to carry us from Aug - Dec last season in lieu of Suarez and Sturridge. Yeah he went off the boil after Christmas and I expected more from him due to his talent but our entire team also left us down as a whole.

There is a lot to Sterling's game. He has all the pace in the world but he's no kick and run merchant like Yannick Fecking Bolaise or some other hack. He has the in game intelligence (sorry to sound like Rodgers, ha). He has shown us how deadly he can be in central positions at the top of the diamond. He can find space and use space. He's also very strong and that's something he doesn't get enough credit for. A lot of people seem to think Suarez made him look a better player. Yeah, that's fair to some extent. Suarez has the ability to makes those around him look and perform better. It doesn't mean Sterling isn't a good player in his own right. He'll be excellent interchanging with Ageuro and Silva.

Go back and watch his goals against City last season or his goal against Norwich, or better still go watch him eviscerate an entire Arsenal defense in the 6-1 win. He's a star and easily worth 35 million to any normal club. I don't want to lose him but perhaps the 50 million from City (not a normal buying club) might appease me somewhat.

I think you have to change the question so that it fits our position and circumstances. We wouldn't be able to buy Sterling if he was at a club like ours in the Premiership and we definitely can't pay anything like 50M. That shit is reserved for the City's of this world. Their 50M is like our 30-35M.

So if you were to ask would I be willing to pay 35M for a player like Sterling the answer would be an easy yes.

That's why I said 'if we had the finances'. It's hypothetical of course but I'm trying to make the point that beyond the crazy world of Man City he's really not worth £50m.

I think it was GKMacca who wrote about agents such as Aidy Ward taking advantage of the situations of young kids like Sterling, who sometimes don't have male role models, and filling that void by basically becoming their big brother, sorting stuff for them, hanging out with them and providing 'guidance' and 'advice' to the point where footballers will feel closer to their agent than to most other people.

It's something that happens with poor black kids in American sports all the time. Some pillar of the community (usually a pastor) comes in when the kid is a college superstar and pretends to act like a father/uncle, sucks the family in, makes every single decision regarding the kid's future then proceeds to destroy the guy for a cut of the cash. Some execellent ESPN 30 for 30 docs about this.
Sterling has been taken in by a svengali basically.

He's good. We'll miss him and he may well go on to have a stellar career and win titles and CL etc. But the kid has no interest in staying. So we need to get the best possible deal we can. £50 for any player is mental money, for a 20 year-old who wants to leave it's an amount we should grab.

Within 2 years he will be angling for a move to Madrid if his career continues to uptrend.
Or he will be at Swansea on loan.

Either way if we sell I want a 50% sell on fee.

That way Aidy ward will be working for us for the rest of Sterlings career.

We all live in the crazy world of Man City and the like because they've inflated prices.

Were it not for them you'd be saying he's not worth 25M or whatever the top end would be in that alternate reality.

So put money aside. The real question is whether he's a top tier talent that we should be demanding a top end fee for. I think he is and if the particular situation of the buyer allows us to push for more all the better.

Or somewhere in between.

Sterling's just a player angling for a move and being a bit of a cunt about it. In the same way Suarez has done twice and just like plenty of players who have acted the arse to force through a move to us.

Conversely I can remember a job I had where they were doing everything in their power to get rid of me. But I hung on for grim death and finally left the shakes department and worked my way up to fries.

It's kind of relevant. If looked at upside down.

There are 7 weeks for the window to close and city need the english quota so we should bide our time

What about the effect this circus will have on our or season? Let's get him out, spend the money and get everyone on board and flying early season.

According to Sky Sports, City are going to contact us today about the Sterling situation, apparently they don't want him to go to Thailand either. That's pretty incredible if true, it's as if they think they already own him, I hope people at our club inform them that the business of our players is none of their concern, and that if they wish to acquire his services, they must first offer an acceptable price. Clearly Ward and City are in constant contact over how to facilitate a move, it seems pretty damn close to tapping up.

It's very obviously tapping up. It's nothing new. But this whole 'please don't take your own player on tour with you' definitely is.

We have alredy signed most of our targets, which makes a change from previous summers.
