Late Saturday kick off away, usually mean a poor result when it comes to us. Massive game away to a team that have beaten us in the last two games and at a ground were we usually do pretty badly.
But this season is all about breaking records and it seems winning against our bogey teams.
Will be a really tough game and I think we should rest Coutinho for this one and have more controll in midfield with Allen in there.

I also think we look better with Sturridge central and Suarez out wide.

God knows how we should set up the defence. I really dont want to see the same 4 as against Swansea.
Johnson at left back was awful, so one option could be swapping them around and have GlenJo in his natural position. But the worst thing is I'd actually have Cissokho in there instead of Johnson now.

Agger was shocking against Bony. Skrtel was equally poor. Do they deserve a new chance or does Toure start?

Mignolet
Flanno Skrtel Toure Cissokho

Allen Gerrard Henderson

Suarez Sturridge Sterling

In that next 10 games thread had this one down as our only loss, really sketchy fixture this one, we will have to be at our best to get the 3 points from this game.

If we're going to drop Coutinho, then Suarez needs to play through the middle. Coutinho and Sturridge are both built for the counter, and if we're abandoning that for a more control based game, then we need Suarez through the middle. Sturridge can play wide.

Johnson's getting more flak than deserved as usual. There's no way I start Cissokho over him. As for Agger and Kolo, its basically a toss-up.

Indeed. Anyone choosing Cissokho over Johnson is quite quite mad.

Its not mad having a natural left back play in the left back position.
With all the attacking talent in our team I'd rather have defenders that can actually defend. Johnson was poor against Swansea.
If he's going to play then move him over to the right, and maybe start Flanno on the left.

Mad or not, I think our defence is more in balance with a natural left back in there.

They swap positions a lot so its not a case of either of them being a winger for the entire game anyway, but Sturridge is much more effective through the middle. Suarez also tracks back much better in a game were we need that.
Henderson and Allen infront of Gerrard could be a good set up against Soton.

This game would be huge for us to win. I might even start looking upwards in the table rather than casting fearful glances back if we could win this. Our away credentials still are not that solid. A win here would be a significant marker for the rest of the season, and would I'm sure be discouraging to all those teams looking to pinch 4th off us. With the 15 day break, would be great to be basking in a good win rather than stewing on a diminishing gap to 5th.

Based on how they played against us in the last 2 games it's hard to see us winning but with our side we could batter them 4-1. You just never know which Liverpool will turn up away from Anfield. They seem to have our measure two tactically though and are one of the few teams we don't create much against. If Rodgers can figure out why and counteract that we have a chance.

Lose and the dream of the title will be over. Win and it's time to bring back the 'make us dream' banner from 05.

Either way I can't wait for the game

It always depends on what the others do as well as what we do, so I don't think it's right to start predicting this game or another as 'lose and it's all over'. We went through that delusion in Rafa's best season. Loads of things can happen. We might beat Chelski and Man City but cock it up against Norwich and Crystal Palace. It gets weird during the run-in.

Not to be pedantic, but I actually think we could afford one draw (to then make 6 points to the chavs) and still win it.

Also, the way Southampton look at the minute, I'm not sure there is a better time to go to St Mary's.

They didnt look very good against Sunderland or West Ham, but Pocettinho has set them up perfectly in two straight games against us now.

Not often we start a thread this early. They seem to score a lot of headers. I'd be tempted to play 3-5-2 to stop them exploiting any gaping holes we're likely to leave and it stops us having a striker on the wing

Mig
Skrtel Toure Agger
Sterling Gerrard Henderson Flanagan
Coutinho
Suarez Sturridge

I was bored 🙂

And nervous about the game already. Damn you good results and higher expectations!

Ideally I would play Lucas in this, I think Allen proved against Swansea that we need that extra 'runner' in the midfield to be able to press effectively.

Mingolet
Flannigan Skrtel Agger* Johnson
Gerrard
Allen Henderson
Coutinho
Suarez
Sturridge

*Not really wanting to play Agger, but Kolo on the left is probably a slightly worse idea so until Sakho's fit......

Why dont we play exactly the same way we played against Everton and Arsenal because if we try to control this match with the ball , they are going to hurt us on the counter and with that tactics our defense tends to perform better

True however I think we need 11 wins to win it so ya losing and it's curtains

10 wins and a draw would leave us on 87 points. I'd be shocked if the winner gets that many this year - that's the total of a really dominant champion, and this season hasn't really been like that. I think the winner will finish on 80-85 points, and personally I could see us sneaking it with 3 draws and 8 wins, so long as we beat Chelsea and City. That would leave us on 83 pts, possibly just ahead of Chelsea on goal difference 🙂

8 wins and 3 draws would be unreal - that's 27 points.

We have a very difficult run in.

Realistically, we should hope to continue our season average of 2 points per game. That would leave us on 78 points, and about 3rd place I'd reckon.

Still think it's too early to think about the title. I don't even think 4th is yet assured - 30% of the season is yet to be played.

United lost the title to City in 2011-12 after being 8 points ahead with 6 games to go.

From the looking over our shoulder angle we could go 5 2 4 and still get CL, 73 points, if we beat Spurs in that it would be a near certainty.

Agreed.

United still worry me, if the worst comes to the worst and we lose at S'ton and United beat West Brom a week later, it's down to 8 points with us to Old Trafford next, lose that and it's down to 5. Then it all gets a bit nervy to say the least with us probably having the tougher run in.

Personally I think we have very little chance of the title, I agree that our run in is tough. Not that there are many games we can't win, just that there are so many tricky ones where there's always a chance of a slip up - sooner or later it's bound to happen: Palace away, West Ham away, Soton away, Norwich away.

But was just pointing out that we wouldn't have to win them all.

Oh, grow a pair. Utd are 11 points back ffs - 12 with goal difference. Plus they're shit.

They can't catch us.
