Will he believe again?

Jan Vertonghen has hinted he could leave Tottenham if they do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The Belgium international centre-back says he will not make any decision until after the World Cup.
But Vertonghen, who joined Spurs from Ajax in a £9.6m deal in 2012, admits that he cannot be sure he will still be at White Hart Lane at the start of next season if the north Londoners fail to finish in the top four.
"Those are always difficult questions," Vertonghen, who signed a four-year deal with the club when he joined, told the Evening Standard.
"What I want is to be playing in the Champions League with Tottenham, so I hope we get in this year.
"Do I have a decision to make if we don't? I can't say anything about that. Let's see after the end of the season, after the World Cup."
The 1-0 defeat to Norwich on Sunday left Spurs trailing six points behind Liverpool, who occupy fourth place.
Tim Sherwood's men will go to Anfield at the end of March and they also have matches with Chelsea and Arsenal before the end of the season.
Spurs have taken just one point off the current top four teams all season, and Vertonghen admits they have to change that form if they want to qualify for the Champions League.
"We'll need quite a lot of points from those games," he said. "Chelsea and Arsenal are still competing for important things so they will be tough games but we've showed we can beat good teams and we have to step up.
"Mentally, we're strong enough. Maybe we're one of the best teams mentally because we support each other all the time but we need to get things right on the pitch.
"Against Norwich, it was just not good enough. We need to improve the level of our game to compete for the top places."

Would be a dream come true if we're able to somehow snatch him. Maybe Mignolet can make up for the howlers he's let in for us and put in a good word to Jan.

Dream come true? He isn't that fucking great at all.

And we signed a left-footed CB last summer for 17 million. And have another one in Agger. Won't and shouldn't happen.
I never understand while people have an issue with 2 left footed CB's but 2 right footed ones are no problem.

He's superb. quick, good in the air and on the ground, reads the game well and is extremely confortable on the ball.

Much better than anything we currently have and a big reason why even though they weren't scoring many at the start of the season they weren't losing many either.

He's more likely to go to Man City anyway to partner his fellow countryman, Kompany. They can pay Spurs more - we know how well Levy is in squeezing prices up - and they can pay the player more too.

I don't believe he's quick at all, in fact lack of pace at the back has been one of Spur's main failings. Got a few Spurs fans who often complain about the fact that he's not a CB at all and shouldn't be played there.

Dont want him. Think he's a bit overrated and we got Sakho.
I really liked that Olympiacos CB, Manolas.

So he joined them in 2012 and after failing to make the CL he wants to leave in 2014. Some patience.
I bet he'll be even less patient if he joins us - "Look Mr. Rodgers, I joined you last summer for CL football. It's February and we're not looking like making the top 4. I'm off in the summer."

Interestingly two of our supposed top targets for centre half from last summer, Kyriakos Papadopolus and Toby Alderweireld aren't getting a game for their respective clubs Shalke and Athletico Madrid.
I don't think it is because of injuries either.

I think the big Greek's case is really due to injuries though. I think he only properly returned in January, and has been on the bench for the games in February.

However, someone so young missing a good part of two seasons with injuries doesn't bode well.

Good - we should be able to pick them up cheap then.

When I read 'Solution to our CB problems' I had a momentary stab of excitement that someone, may indeed have pinpointed a solution to our creaky defence. Then I saw it was posted by DB and felt like Blackadder in anticipation of one of Baldrick's cunning plans.

As against that I know a couple of Spurs fans who reckon he's not a LB and should always be played in the centre. You pays your money, etc.

Have a 'Like' for making me laugh ! I will forever more imagine that DB looks like Baldrick.

I think we've all seen enough of him (I know I have) to make up our own minds. He is pacey and he is a CB and not a LB but he can play there in an emergency.

He's a right dick for mouthing off about needing the champions league, kinda fits in with the delusions of grandeur mentality at Spurs though. Anyway, he should focus on staying fit for the majority of the season before overstating his worth.

I have seen him a few times too and he himself I think has said he prefers to CB. No need for binnying, was just reporting what couple of Spurs fan have said. Not sure about his pace, everytime I seen him he didn't look particularly pacey but I'm sure you have seen him more than me.

I think he's excellent (although his form has suffered with Tottenham's lately), but he'd cost an arm and a leg and we have much more pressing concerns.

I wonder if we do, Del. We've certainly got a number of CBs on the books, but the mix in that defence clearly isn't right yet and the CBs are part of that conundrum. My guess is that not all the CBs currently in our squad will still be here come the start of next season.

Levy would indeed want ludicrous money for Vertonghen though.
