Champagne is so overrated. If I ever get given one at a reception I usually order a pint of Guinness and pour it in.

To be fair, most hot countries chill some of their lighter red wines - many aren't much heavier than rose.

I've seen the odd weirdo chill Pinot noir.

Certainly, Beaujolais nouveau would be something that could be chilled.

Champagne contains a large component of red grapes - Blanc de Noir is made entirely from red grapes.

Aussies actually make a red sparkling out of Shiraz which is served cold.

Let's face it, in countries outside the UK, where we tend to get a bit of sun, drinking red wine that's the temperature of blood isn't ideal.

Totally. It goes back to what I was saying earlier about blind testers being fooled into mistaking white for red wine.

Good champagne is nice....

... but expensive.

I don't think you get much bang for your buck.

Agreed. I've only had really nice champagne on a few occasions, each time it was a mate's dad hosting the do & he's a multi millionaire.

I believe there's some English 'champagne' that tastes just as good, if not nicer than the really nice French official stuff but I've never looked into it.

You can get fooled.

That saying if you follow a proper structured approach to tasting, you shouldn't get fooled easily.

You can certainly taste the difference between sparkling made with a red grape component and one made from white grapes only.

Correct - English sparkling is highly regarded.

The premium regions for specific grapes tend to be towards the edge of where they can grow and ripen.

Vine stress tends intensify flavour.

One of the key components of Champagne is the acid structure, which is mostly to do with the effect of cool climate - so grapes grown in the south of England are perfect for sparkling.

Not so good for still wine, but a bit of sugar to balance the acidity, secondary fermentation or some bottle age will do the trick.

Toon, Spurs, saints, Chelski.... Our defense... How can we expect for a second that Rodgers can live to tell that tale?!

This month will define him.

Can't wait either way!

Don't remember exactly but I have a feeling he was linked with the no.2 job when Pascoe and Marsh got the boot. I've defo heard the name before.

It definitely adds a degree of credence to the rumours when two positions are rumoured to be filled within the same day, that's for sure.

I'd still prefer the experience & style of ancoletti, truth be told, but as I alluded to in a post yesterday, I don't think it will take much to get this side winning regularly again.

Jonathan Northcroft was just saying that, as Rodgers has stopped talking to even local hacks this season and just does a perfunctory press conference, he went to see him to ask him if he'd start talking to the odd friendly national hack again, and Rodgers declared he was still badly hurt by the media coverage he got last year, and is adamant they should have given him more support. When a manager thinks like that, after that sort of season, he's wandered way over into the side of madness.

Sounds a bit like an excuse to cover - consciously or otherwise - for having suspected since the summer that he was for the high jump and it was only a question of time.

Anyone wishing us to lose in the Derby is a grade A shit pig. I genuinely think we should pack in the site if somes dopes gloat if we lose tomorrow. Don't waste the bandwidth. Just close it down.

I really hope we outscore them. #EncourageTheSturridge I suppose.

Agree about winning and outscoring the bitters...but not about closing the site.

Yep, just want a win. Fuck all the Rodgers talk. Its about 3 points and beating Everton.
Rodgers will be gone soon anyway.

As for Klopp and the Bosnian nr 2. Remember the story about Begovic joining us as his family had told some reporter in Bosnia that he was signing for us. I wouldnt trust that to much.

Look, this is the eighth page of this thread and there's still no impromptu wine. Get on with it - white, red, by this stage I don't care!
