So, Joe Allen...

He is, according to hiw own words, looking forward to work with one of the legends in the game in Laudrup.

He won't come. Perhaps. I don't know.

the more this dragged on the less i thought he'd come. he'd be good to have but to be honest i dont think we need him, a middle three of hendo lucas and gerrard/shelvey are good enough for me, we need some attacking players

SWANSEA CITY midfielder Joe Allen returns to training today with talks about his future high on the agenda.

Allen is set to meet with manager Michael Laudrup for the first time, amid speculation that he could leave for Liverpool in a deal worth £15 million.

He arrives after his Team GB side were knocked out of the Olympic football tournament on penalties by South Korea at the quarter-final stage.

But the 22-year-old maintains the pressure-cooker environment of London 2012 will be vital for his long-term career.

He said: "These Olympics have been really bright for the whole team. We were desperate to play a part in that, and we gave our all, but it wasn't quite enough.

"We're all very downhearted right now. It's been a really close-knit group and every single person in the squad — staff or player — has been fantastic.

"It's sad to see us go our separate ways now, but it's a really good way to go into the new season.

"This experience is going to be vital for my whole career. We said in the changing rooms that it's important not to forget this, because it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and we were all really privileged to be selected. It's something I'll never forget, it's just a shame not to have a medal to go along with it."

Team GB fell behind when Ji let rip from 20 yards. Aaron Ramsey equalised with a penalty, though missed from the spot later on.

Ramsey, Tom Cleverley, Craig Dawson and Ryan Giggs all held their nerve from 12 yards in the shootout but Dean Sturridge's effort was saved by keeper Lee Bumyoung, with South Korea's five kicks expertly put away. But Allen maintains everyone involved can leave with their heads held high.

"It's always really disappointing to get knocked out, especially in a major tournament like this, but I'm proud and privileged to have been part of a great side here," he said.

"It's just a shame it went to penalties, but that's just the way things go sometimes.

"We fought until the very end, and you've got to give credit to South Korea."

Meanwhile, Scott Sinclair — mentioned over the weekend as a possible target for Manchester City also returns to Swansea this week for talks over a new deal.

He said: "I'm going back and I'm sure I'm going to learn a hell of a lot from the new manager. He was a legend back in his time. When I get back I'll talk to the manager and we'll sit down and discuss it (contract)."

And defender Ashley Williams has also been linked with Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers eyeing up possible replacements for Daniel Agger, who could be on his way to Manchester City in a £20 million deal.

I expect Allen to sign shortly & there is still an offer on the table for Dempsey but it has been complicated by Adams initial refusal to head the opposite way. He has been told not to expect much 1st team footie this year at LFC & is now coming round to it.

All allegedly of course.....Ross.

All old news, but thank you for your inside info which has been public for ages.....again.

Your mate on the coaching staff needs to keep up with the news a bit better

I am not saying we are not about to sign Allen as it seems a lot of people think it's all but a done deal.

I do find it rather odd though that the player has just come out and epxressed his desire to play for Laudrup if he's about to leave the club. Why would he do that?

Do you have a link to this? I just read an article about Allen and it had a small bit about Sinclair at the bottom and a quote where he said something similar, was wondering if maybe you got that confused. Anyway, I doubt he'd say anything different until he joined the another team anyway.

Yeah it was Sinclair saying that I think.

Or it could be that I can't be arsed to pass it on to you in public as soon as I get it.

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup has insisted that Joe Allen will be 'very, very expensive' and should cost Liverpool more than £20million.
The 22-year-old has already been the subject of a bid from former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers - who is now in charge at Anfield.
Laudrup, though, has pointed to the fact that Liverpool

spent £17million on Jordan Henderson

last summer, and he feels that Allen

should cost more.
"He is worth a lot of money because he's a good player," said Laudrup.
"The manager knows him and knows if he wants to change the way Liverpool play he needs a player in the midfield like Joe Allen.
"But he also knows he's very, very expensive. We saw they bought a couple of midfielders in the last few years for a lot of money, but with all due respect Joe is on a level above.
"In my opinion, if one is worth £17m then Joe is worth more, perhaps over £20million. I'm talking as a football man not as a chairman but if the chairman asks my advice then I will tell him the same."
Exchange

It is understood the offer Swansea rejected last month included Jonjo Shelvey moving on a season-long loan to the Liberty.
But Laudrup says he will not accept an offer that includes a player not considered first-choice at Anfield.
When asked about the possibility of an exchange, he said: "If we could have (Luis) Suarez ... We have good players here and they have good players, but I can't see a player not in the starting 11 at Liverpool being in the starting 11 in our team.
"They might want to do it because they can pay less money."
While Allen continues to be linked with Liverpool, Laudrup is still looking to strengthen his squad, and the Dane says he is closing in on two more additions, believed to be a striker and a winger.
"One is quite close but the other one is more difficult," he said.
"But I hope he will be an important player for us. He is playing at quite a big club so it's not that easy. They are both offensive players. One can defend as well.
"We are also working on other alternatives."

Give them Downing - perfect - he cost 18m, is a first team regular "and" an England international.

Swansea will be getting a bargain.

What a load of shit Laudrup talks. Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Carroll, Borini, Bellamy and Suarez would all walk into the Swansea team, disrespectful dick.

I wonder a few things about this, particularly if the £15m clause is actually true, and how much of an agreement we made with Swansea over not pursuing their players, how legally binding it was (I'm guessing it was a gentleman's agreement). Seems strange that Laudrup should say they're expecting a massive bid if they know he can go for £15m, I know he's hardly going to advertise a buy-out clause, but if we already know, I'm surprised they're not going for the 'threatening legal action' line regards the agreement.

Pretty funny from Laudrup anyway, "none of the players who can't get in their first team would get in ours", lols. I think I'm going to love him or really hate him.

All he is saying is that no one from our bench would walk into their starting XI. Not going to argue whether he's right or not but it's hardly the same as saying he didn't want Gerrard is it? Or have I missed something?

To be honest, I can understand where he's coming from prize-wise as we've been arguing the exact same thing with regards to Agger/Skrtel's value should Citeh be interested as they paid loads for Lescott.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if there was a buy-out clause and Laudrup didn't know/forgot about it when asked about how much he feels Allen is worth. He's a footballer to the teeth more so than a businessman.

He's probably only trying to convince Allen to stay.

this is great isn't it ? - before showing our over whelming desire to sign this guy very few people would have looked at him BUT now - he is your next Xabi Alonso. Fucking great !!! - I actually think we are incapable of operating in the modern transfer market with any kind of maturity one would expect of us.
