So, Joe Allen...

JOE ALLEN has this morning begun formal talks with Liverpool FC a view to completing his £15m move from Swansea City.

A source close to the deal has confirmed the Wales midfielder has opened the final discussions over an Anfield contract having watched Brendan Rodgers' side on Merseyside last night.

And the 22-year-old is expected to be handed a bumper pay-rise as he leaves South Wales behind following 150 appearances as a Swan.

It comes after Liverpool finally relented on paying the full £15m that triggered a release clause in Allen's Swansea contract, leaving the Liberty club unable to stand in the way of a transfer that breaks all previous Welsh records.

As revealed by WalesOnline, Allen told both Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins and manager Michael Laudrup of his wish to see through the move after a verbal offer was made by Liverpool.

The clubs are still to agree on the full schedule of payments on the deal but there is very little danger of Allen not being a Liverpool player before he meets up with his Wales teammates on Sunday ahead of next week's friendly clash with Chris Coleman.

Finally.... After 3 friendlies & 2 competitive games against a team worse that the ones we were playing friendlies against.

It's been a long road - I'm glad everyone stuck with it.
lol you're not funny. Look thats the first time that team has played together and with allen in there as well we will be ready.

Bellamy on Joe Allen...""I spent the last three weeks houding Joe Allen to go to Liverpool. They have got an immense player. Joe, Brendan and Liverpool will all be great winners out of this. It has been a pleasure to spend the last few weeks with him."

I love Bellamy. Nice little tapping up there Craig. Suarez should have been doing the same to Cavanni.

Delighted we've/we're signing Allen. I think we're going to love him as a player for us. Allen will get the ball to Gerrard and in turn will get it to Suarez.

It's definitely a better way of getting the ball to Gerrard than Spearing hitting it in a straight line to him. Fair enough its the quickest route, but it makes you feel sad for him. Allen will interchange sideways passes with Lucas at a barely noticeable 1 degree angle. So after about 20 of these the ball would have progressed 10 yards up the pitch. Another 20 more and it will arrive at Gerrard's feet. Rodgers will think he's watching a porn movie. Gerrard will still be as depressed as ever, remembering how once upon a time Xabi used to get the ball to him quickly along a mathematically beautiful curve.

I think suarez probably thought what most people thought about cav during the olympics - what a load of shit.

Medical and all the pictures and other press crap, it will be announced within an hour I reckon.

Bren looks elated that Allen has signed, even more excited than he looked when Borini signed. BTW looks like Mr. Rodgers needs to take a 30 min break from football every day and get on the treadmill, he's looking a little pudgy.

Swansea City have completed the transfer of midfielder Joe Allen to Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

The Welsh international finalised the move to Anfield this evening after indicating he would like a new challenge after being part of the Swans set up since the age of nine.

Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins, was disappointed to see the 22-year-old leave the Liberty Stadium, but wished the popular Allen good luck.

“It is with great reluctance that we have agreed to the transfer of Joe to Liverpool,’’ said Huw. “As chairman it is always a bitter disappointment when a young player who has been with us for a length of time decides his future lies elsewhere.

“We are very lucky at Swansea City that football decisions are taken without any financial pressure to sell. But that also makes some decisions even more disappointed when they happen like this.

“However, as always, we will deal with those disappointments in the right manner and we wish Joe all the very best from everyone at Swansea City. It’s been a pleasure watching him grow and develop as a footballer and a person, while his professionalism and commitment to the cause has never been in doubt from the very first day he joined us.

“Now, as we always do when a manager or player leaves us, we will re-focus and galvanise ourselves as a football club and make sure we continue to strengthen the squad ready for the start of the new Barclays Premier League season.’’
