Unusually, considering that every time we log a call they try and tell us it's our problem, our wonderful hosting company has seen fit to perform some maintenance tomorrow to solve some issues they have. Unlike our wonderful hosts though I will have the basic manners to apologise for what is yet more downtime and hope that the service is restored is as quickly as possible. Details are below. Perhaps, whilst we our down, some light reading is in order. Here a suggested article from the owner of our beloved and revered hosts about the impact of site downtime and how it should be avoided at all costs:

What maintenance is being scheduled and why?
We will be performing firmware updates to some of our switches.

This will resolve issues that have recently been identified that have been affecting the performance of some individual VPS containers.

We have identified this as high priority maintenance rather than scheduling this for our normal monthly maintenance periods

Who will this affect?
The updates are to our core systems, so will affect the network for all VPS customers

What will affected customers experience?
VPSs will be unavailable as the updates are performed. We estimate this will be for no longer than 60 minutes

When is the maintenance window?
From 8pm on Tuesday 7th February

IMPORTANT NOTE:
We strongly recommend customers perform a reboot to their VPS prior to any planned maintenance. This is to ensure:

1) All services on a VPS are correctly set to start automatically
2) There are no pending configuration changes that are awaiting a restart to take affect.

Performing a restart before the maintenance window will ensure any issues are identified in a controlled environment while our teams are available to assist.
