Hardly any publisher is interested these days. Most publishing houses are dominated by women in their twenties who've done English degrees, so while they'll seriously consider, say, a biography of John Keats, George Eliot or Henry Fielding, if you mention anyone in sport or entertainment who did most of their work before these people were born they look at you as if you're mad and suggest a book on Russell Brand or Ronaldo instead. John Keith gets the odd book out but they're for a niche audience and relatively few copies are published, hence the fact they're out of print pretty quickly, usually without a paperback edition. I'm a bit surprised a proper biography of Shankly hasn't been done, but even that would be a struggle to get commissioned. Cally's best chance is to get an autobiography ghosted and publish it via the Echo's publishing wing.
