£30M for Modric...yeah right
They bought him for nigh on £20M didn't they?
16,5. He's worth nearly twice that now.
It says 13,135M and thats what I would pay for him now
There are a few transfer fees that are wrong though. He was bought for 16,5 mill £. More than one major European club would offer 25 mill for him now.

1 decent player?

When they beat Inter 6 of his signings was in the starting line up. He didn't sign loads of shite players. Ghaly was Jols signing. Gilberto and Rocha was brought in as cover and cost a combined 2 mill £.

The best scout we have over here, who is a pretty wellknown scout in world football, is praising him and says we have made a very very good appointment. Thats good enough for me.
But mind you that it wasnt Rafas Inter. It was some shit he inherited from Mourinho if we are to go by Roys logics.

Is he bollocks. Oh but he is a player from the former Yugoslavia so no wonder you're championing him. Do you just think any player whose name ends with ic is good? Actually don't answer that.

Lesser players than Luca Modoric have been bought and sold for £30M.

It's not inconceivable that he'll go for a big fee in the future.

I don't doubt that at all.

He's that sort of player, but is he worth every "cent"? Not for me and he certainly isn't the heartbeat of that Spurs team.

So he wants more of his own before we can blame him!

What happenend to judge me after 10 games?
He wants 3 years now so he meant to say 10 games after the 3rd year, failing which give him the same time as Rafa to muck things up real good

Chelsea are apperantly after him according to his agent. Be interesting to see how much they are willing to offer.

Hodgson inherited a squad at a club sending more players to the World Cup than any other. It was and is a good opportunity and he should be doing better than mid-table. He's given an excuse, not a reason; for underperforming.

The World Cup is irrelevant. The squad isn't very good at all. You only have to look at last season and this season to see that.

What about the season before?

Oh yeah, Alonso... Well that can't account for 30 odd points a season. I mean he only played 29 games in 08/09... I think... He defo didn't play in the side that battered the mancs 4-1, or the one that did the Geordies 5-1 away, and they were two of our best performances that season.

The World Cup is irrelevant but the squad isn't as bad as is being made out on here. It's certainly good enough for us to be doing a lot better than we're doing.

I think it should be doing better, but I really don't think it's much more than a 6th-7th at best squad. I've just seen so much decline in the last few years.

Riera> Jova
Yossi> Cole
Masher > Poulson
Alonso > Lucas
Keane > N'gog

Carragher's getting worse. Skrtel's error prone. Agger's always injured. Torres can't be bothered. LB is still a nightmare. There's just so many problems.

The only players I'm positive about our Meireles and Reina, and, at times, Maxi.

My only hope is Gerrard will come back refreshed and rejuvenate us into something of a competitive force.

Yep I agree we should be doing better but not really that much better. Also there are players that are used to competing for trophies and it is extremely hard to get the best out of them in the current situation. In some players' case I feel them and the team would both benefit if they were moved on and replaced with hungrier ones.

I don't think scouting Africa is the answer.

6-7th *at best*?

The argument for saying the squads at Utd, Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Spurs are better is easy... who else?

You're exaggerating.

We have had problems with attitude, form and to an extent injuries, but that's where you'd like to see a good manager earning his money and getting the team he puts out to be greater than the sum of it's parts. Roy is totally, totally failing us here.

But if Utd, Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Spurs are better, where would we be expected to finish?

I still think a better manager could've had us competing for fourth with the way the league has been this so far this season.

If you take onboard the arguments that all of the above teams are much better than us, then we'd be looking at 6th of course - higher than where we're at the moment.

But saying the squad is so bad that making 6th is some kind of achievement is basically saying that you agree with Roy's assessment of things. Which is mad.

Agreed. It's the "at best" bit that's wide of the mark IMO. Theoretical discussions about the respective quality of different squads don't change the fact that none of those other teams is having a particularly good season, and we'd have been able to capitalise on that if our squad had taken the opportunity and played to its potential. Getting them to do so is the manager's job and Roy's been a failure at it.

We're talking about over achievement here though arnt we?. The bottom line is that we are currently in 9th position with what most agree is the 6th best squad in the league. The reason for that is that we have a shite manager. If he cant get us to our proper level, I cant see him getting us above it.

No indeed, but that's the point. A manager who was up to the job would certainly have achieved the former and, given how those other teams are doing their best not to pull away from the pack, quite possibly the latter too.

I kind of agree with all that JJ, but are we therefore saying that Ferguson, Wenger, Redknapp, Mancini, Ancelloti are all under achieveing because none of them has managed to run away from the others? Im a firm believer that if you achieve your best you will finish where you deserve to finish. In our case I believe that to be 6th place based on our current squad. I would love if we finished higher of course.

Im not confident that Roy will have us finish as high as 6th. Thats why I want him gone now and a new manager installed before the January window. A Christmas wish I greatly doubt will come true.
