There's a reason why Benitez got "time and patience"

Yes, Adolphe Timé and Jesus Patience. Willy Mackay got a good deal on them in a BOGOF sort of way. Tricky winger Timé arrived at the age of 15, but, after showing intermittent promise in the youth side until he was 27, was eventually moved on to Sabadel for an undisclosed fee, where he reinvented himself as an unusued right back. Midfield playmaker Patience, who came at 22, left on a free transfer two years later after an injury-ridden time at the club. He is currently a marketing assistant at Atlético Antoniano.

yeah it was a great performance. Hasn't changed anything though.

Ok, I will leave you alone then. The quality of dialogue would probably be hard pressed if we continue any form of conversation as we live in different worlds.

My condolences...

If i buy you lifesize cutouts of Lucas and Benitez will you shut the fuck up?
If we get knocked out next week did all this really matter? Cause in the end, we still only managed to draw. At home.
I wonder who predicted that Chelsea would play for a draw before the game, hmm.

Modo - you're being ridiculous. Of course Chelsea played for a draw away from home ... but they were completely overmatched and had 1 shot on goal. If you're unable to give credit to the players and manager who performed last night, why bother being a fan? It's not like Raf's cup record in this competition against Chelsea was that good ...

I gave credit to the manager and the players but I'm not celebrating a 1-1 result as if we won the competition.
If we're still in it next week, I'll be happy for Rodgers. As it stands, it's still status quo.
1-1 is a good result for them, not for us.

When you piss up against the wind you get wet and start to smell funny. Be careful - you're wasting time.

I think you're being deliberately harsh here. Bottom line is that unlike last year - where we had 2 on form strikers for most of the season - we're growing as a team making due with maturing young players etc ... Rodgers has made his mistakes - EVERYONE has seen this - and yet, he's found a solid formation in this 3-4-3 formation that is maximizing the talents of Can, Skittles, Sakho, Lucas, Markovic, Moreno, Lallana, Coutinho and Sterling. He's had an easy'ish run of games in the last 2 months and we've got good results in almost every single game.

We've not had the rub of the luck yesterday - we should have THUMPED the best team in the league - but it's obvious to everyone we're on a good path right now and long it may continue.

The first thing a gooner mate told me yesterday was "You guys were incredible last night - amazing." Fuck status quo - you cannot deny we're on a good path again, and that's STILL without our world class striker!

ILD - nothing wrong with admitting (although he'd never admit it) something isn't working and going another way. It is a problem when you return to do things the old way.

What I get annoyed about is how easily people adopt something the manager has said and then support it as though it's right and correct without the slightest bit of critical thinking.

As I said when we were going through our bad patch, there's fuck all reasons to sack him. Just stop him from making life harder on himself by taking him out of the player buying process.

But isn't the normal view that the majority of players that he's having problems with are the ones that he likely was forced to accept in the first place?

I think you overplay that argument - it's not necessarily a pathway to success, unless you're protecting against rapid turnover of head coaches with each coach wanting to create a new team.

I'd argue that long term success needs the Manager to have a massive influence in player recruitment.

I agree with Ross on this one - mainly because he seems a bit agitated or maybe even slightly pissed and is an administrator.

I don't think I'm being harsh. I'm just not getting my hopes up.
Yes we're improving and most of the results have gone our way but there's still a few games left.

This season will be a complete failure if we don't qualify for the CL. Cup win or not.
So the owners weren't in the same hurry as I was to sack Rodgers. We'll see if it pays off in May.

This just about sums him up

"If we're still in it next week, I'll be happy for Rodgers"

What about being happy for yourself? You are a fucking Liverpool fan arent you?

The topic is about Rodgers isn't it?

No - it won't be a 'complete failure'.

This isn't a 2 or 3 year project. We overachieved last year, and we're back on track to a top 5/6 finish which means we're on that curve which SSS took had us ahead of. Stop expecting immediate success - we're building a team that will hopefully be able to compete every year with the big spenders ... That cannot be done overnight (check the average age of our signings & team compared to Kenny/Raf - the last two managers who won trophies) ... Patience man -

Agree Ross.

I don't know why it should be, but it seems to be pretty clear that most coaches are just pretty shit at buying players. It's a bit baffling to me - I used to think that the level of knowledge you'd need to be a coach is sufficient to pick out quality players, but apparently not. Rodgers is absolutely hopeless at it IMO. And even our shoddy compromise of a transfer committee seems better at it than pretty much any manager we've had since Paisley.

Given managers are so bad at it, I don't know why you'd let them. There's no way they can devote sufficient time at gathering and deciphering the info to make informed transfer decisions as well as keep things ticking over on the field. That's why I feel our transfers usually end up being former players of the manager, the latest person to have a good premier league season, the player who scored against us. Etc etc

The players that were 'forced on Rodgers' (despite him telling us he has the last word) seem to be the ones that aren't working out. I'd say Rodgers is putting things the other way around, he seemed to want them until they weren't working out.

Allen and Borini are hardly doing much.

Am......EVERYONE ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET I'D SAY.

No one is celebrating as if we won the competition. We are happy with our positive performance. A performance in which we battered the best team in the league at times. A fit Sturridge could have made a world of difference last night. I was disappointed with the result but the performance was very encouraging.

I SUGGEST: DON'T REPLY TO MODO AS IT COMPLETELY RUINS THE THREADS WITH UTTER SHITE AND DRIVEL !

Sorry for the shouting but it really pisses me off that we have to waste our time at such a poor level of debate with so many great posters around.

It keeps happening. We support Liverpool, he supports a collection of players he likes and a past manager.
