"They are enjoying watching an outstanding team that is playing with freedom, but for us as a team we haven't done anything yet"

Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool head to Cardiff on Saturday in second place in the Premier League following a series of eye-catching results and performances which continued with the 3-0 win over Manchester United last Sunday.

Rodgers has transformed the club, which has not won the title since 1990, but insisted there should be no celebrations as yet.

"It is very straight forward and very simple," said the Liverpool manager. "It is great for the supporters to dream. They have got great pride now in what they are seeing.

"They are enjoying watching an outstanding team that is playing with freedom, but for us as a team we haven't done anything yet.

"We have had a very good season, we are second in the Premier League and we are improving, but we haven't done anything.

"We are focusing purely on Cardiff. That is the word we have used this week."

Liverpool have no new injury worries ahead of the trip to Wales, with Rodgers still enthused by the courage and conviction his players displayed against United.

"There were 75,000 supporters at Old Trafford," said Rodgers. "It was Manchester United's ground and mostly their supporters, but it was our ball and our game. We controlled the game."

Brendan Rodgers claims Liverpool feel no pressure in title race

LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers claims the Premier League title race with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City will not put pressure on his side's performances.

The Reds, who are enjoying a 10-match unbeaten run in the league, moved within four points of leaders Chelsea with a win at Manchester United on Sunday.

And the Anfield side are now in contention to win the title for the first time in 24 years.

But Rodgers insists that his players will not be affected by the pressures of being in the title race.

"For us there is no change. There is no pressure. The expectancy here is to win every game," he said.

"I've always said the second half of the season suits us because of the nature of how we play.

"We are one of the world's biggest clubs so when we play we play with dominance.

"There is no fear with young players and it is my job to remove any fear out of the game and let them go and play to a tactical plan and go and express themselves.

"This is one of the most iconic football clubs in the world and it is my job, along with the staff here, to push it up into those echelons of the game where it belongs."

Hmmm.

Well, I suppose it's along the right lines. The message should very much be that nothing has been accomplished yet and this team still needs to go out and prove each week that it's worth talking about in the way that people are doing right now.
