I've only seen him play a handful of times and but I've never seen the hype surrounding hi
play out in front of me. Am I missing something? He's spoken about with the Ronaldos and messis, but he looks more like a simao or valencia to me.
Do I just need to see more of him?

I'm in work watching bit and pieces of the game and said the same to the guy I'm working with. I don't think I've witnessed a good performance from him. Apparently he had a great game against the Mancs.

He's probably somewhere in between, but I agree with you, he's never been a Ronaldo or a Messi to me. Definitely not. I've never been *that* wowed by him.

He is a excellent winger though, in a normal sort of way.
And Qualifiers. And every champions league game?

I don't know because to be fair I havnt seen all that much of him, but for me the idea of Ribery is far better than the reality of ribery.
He's a bit like freddie adu.......mixed with frankenstien
who's just been hit with an axe.

He's good, but you're right Oncy. He's in the second tier of players really. In the level below Messi, Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney etc. Who isn't below that fearsome quartet, though?
Torres and Gerrard
Messi and Ronaldo are better. They're lightyears ahead of anyone, though.

They're different types of players, so if you're judging them on sort of winger-criteria then it's a bit unfair.

Plus the fact that last season wasn't great for either Gerrard or Torres.

They're definitely all world class players and would get into my World XI

Ribery is a very good player. He ripped it up in his first season in Germany. I took these stats from wiki; In total, Ribéry appeared in 46 matches scoring 16 goals and assisting on 17 goals as Bayern won the league and cup double.

I really like him and wish we signed him when he went to Bayern for 16million. I think the same summer we signed Babel and Lucas for a similiar combined fee.
Is he a flat track bully? He certainly doesn't seem to do it in the big games. Is that unfair?

Now you're exaggerating. You said yourself you've only seen him a handful of times. He's an excellent player. Not in the same league as Messi or Ronaldo, but that's hardly an insult, is it? I'd love him at Anfield.

He was very good in the 2006 World cup. It would be harsh to single him out in this tournament especially with how poor the French have been as a whole.

He a lot of attributes that make him a perfect for the premiership. Strong, tricky, pacy and can assist and score goals.
I am exaggerating. But I've never seen him play well. I understand his reputation and last summer they were talking about him being a 70m replacement for Ronaldo. That blows my mind and really doesn't marry up with the player I see every time I see him play.
He's like Quaresma or Simao or.......N'zogbia.
Just don't get it and can only assume I need to watch him
more.

From the dozen or so games that I've seen recently, he's looked like a poor man's Robben.
Thats exactly what I've thought mate. I watched bayerns champions league run and Robben looks twice the player, quicker, more dangerous, better dribbler everything really. And yet he's the one everyone talks about as the big name star.

Indeed. Fwank has been rank.

We had this discussion today in work. He's been average or below every time I've seen him.

Dont get what all the fuss is about.

Robben is excellent isn't he. Love his directness and ability to go past a player. Such a pity we couldn't get him or Wes Sneijder in the Alonso sale.

I'm not saying he is Roy of the rovers. I rate him and in all honesty he is far better than Simao, Quaresma and Charles in Charge.

Good thread Once.

He was at his best in his Marseille days, when he didn't have a 25M attitude. He was sharp, scored goals, inventive, daring, and a joy to watch.

I get the feeling all the hype, the big transfer fee, the links to Madrdi, United, etc and the all the trappings have gone to his head. His attitude stinks.

Watch the way he plays, he does fuck all until the ball's served to him on a platter, then he doesn't give two shits for teammates, and goes off on another attempted mazy run, trying to beat 4 players, before inevitably losing the ball. The commentators are all "look at the way he glided past the first three defenders, only to come unstuck at the end". Who gives a fuck, he still lost the fucking ball. Again.

He needs to go back to basics. He's got talent, fucking heaps of it, but his head's buried up his arse.

You could slightly excuse him that though, cos if my head looked like his, I'd want to bury it up my arse though too.

If that was your arse in your avatar I'd bury mine up there too 🙂

As for Ribery, he's good, definitely better than Simao or N'zogbia (admittedly from the little I've seen of him), but not 70mil good.
And I'd rather have Robben.

He ripped Barca a new one in a CL game a couple seasons ago. Did the same to AC Milan and the mancs game he looked unstoppable.

He has had plenty of injuries this season though and in and out of the Bayern team while Robben took the spot light. At his best he's not far off Ronaldo or Messi but he's certainly struggled this season.

I'd have him over anything we've got though.
