I don't understand why the need to insist our players have to swear eternal loyalty (odd how no-one complains if Degen swears it but that's another matter). For a start with the media today, it gets spun out of proportions and then if the club gets made a massive offer for the player and is accepted because the club feels it's the right thing to do then the loyalty aspect is forgotten.

I think that is absolutely right. I can never understand that a team are willing to splash 10-20M numerous times on different midfield or striking options but not once on a top class goalkeeper. Pepe is worth 20-30M to me of anyone's money, because of his contribution to the team as a whole and not just his shot-stopping ability.
It always amazes, and delights, me that Pepe is up 1 second after a save looking at how to distribute the ball and to set another attack in motion. I watch other keepers closely and rarely find any of them, even the Cechs or VdSs of this world, that pro-active and alert.

VDS definitely added that to his game at United.
