Pinned up in Centenary Stand yesterday ( Kop side) . Now I couldn't give a shit about politics to really care but I was still a bit surprised to see that being allowed. Can easily cause offence and I'm not sure what place that banner/flag or any banner/flag like that has inside Anfield.

haven't seen the banner but I wouldn't take any offence myself, everyone uses the red hand

Well there's Irish tricolours often enough (the flag of the Irish Republic). Northern Ireland's flag has a red hand in it. What's the big deal?

Way to miss the point. I'm not turning this into us vs them or oneupmanship. As originally stated...i genuinely couldn't give a shit.

I just think they could be seen as a little provocative and again...what's the connection between these banners/flags and supporting Liverpool?

I was at a match where one bellend was waving a red hand flag around and another bellend was waving an Irish tricolour back at him. They were spending most of their time doing this than watching the match. Eventually they got a load of shit from The Kop and the stewards ended up confiscating both flags.

I don't think I am missing the point. I'm saying that unless it was some sort of paramilitary flag then what's the problem? Is it in your utter ignorance you only associate the red hand with violence and stuff?

If you saw a Scottish flag, an American flag, or an Irish flag at Anfield, do you start a thread saying "what has that to do with supporting Liverpool?"

You might very well have a point if you did, though it would be a pretty boring one.

Why pick out this symbol as offensive though, unless it was paired with some offensive words. The red hand was on my Uni football kit and the Gaelic kit. Not to mention the Ulster GAA and rugby badges.

I picked it out as like i originally said...it was pinned up to my right in the corner of the centenary stand yesterday hence it stood out and thus I'm just questioning the reasoning behind it. It could have been any banner and I'd have said the same thing.

fair enough, I'd say it's a symbol of where the fans or supporters club is from

nothing like a good flag argument 😀

We just spent 2.5 years with a manager for whom that flag is his national flag too right? In the same way that we had spanish flags around during the Benitez days and you now see German flags appearing (and I noticed a brazilian one last time i was there too)

I don't see any issue with any national flag being pinned at a match at Anfield

To be honest Pat, fuck the national flags. All they do is stir up divisions. They've got fuck all relevance to LFC at all other than the odd one with relevance to a specific player or manager sometimes but why some daytripping tool wants to make a big advertisement about where they're from I don't know. Especially when they're not watching the match and waving it at some other tool in a nearby stand and at the same time pissing off everyone else who's there to, you know, watch the game and support the team.

Well, the flag with the red hand with a star around it and the crown above it was the flag of the government of Northern Ireland. That government no longer exists, what with it being done away with in the 70's. Northern Ireland doesn't actually have its own flag.

Not a lot of people know that.

If you're easily offended by an Ulster flag flying at a Liverpool match, then you've got far greater issues in life.

I'm not offended. It's probably not as big a deal as I'm making out. I just never noticed it pinned up on the centenary stand before and I don't really see what the point of it is.

Ha - I was attempting to apply logic to a situation i know little about i.e. i had to google the red hand banner.

The balotelli banner was the most offensive one i've seen. Make the lad score a couple of goals before giving him a huge fuck off banner.
