Zlatan: "In my opinion, we are stronger than Inter because now I am at Milan. With Robinho's arrival we are more complete, we are favourites to win the Scudetto and the Champions League. "

Rafa: "Football has changed a bit. This week I have heard it said that the Rossoneri are favourites to win everything. They said the same in Istanbul when I faced the Rossoneri with Liverpool. They said it until the end of the first half of that match, but then something changed."

Yeah, he fluked the Hamann sub which changed the game.
That's a bit harsh. I'm not denying that he fucked up, but give him some credit.

Hamann was comming on for Traore anyhow.
It was only when it was discovered that Finnan was carrying a slight knock that Didi replaced him instead.

Anyone in any doubt about the credit due to Rafa for Istanbul has only to read Stevie's book. We all make mistakes. What counts in the end is how we deal with them.

As far as the quote is concerned, I say good for Rafa. He always was better at responding to the silliness of others, rather than starting it himself.

So long as he keeps the "sillyness" towards other clubs rather than those above his head then I think he'll do quite well.

He needs to restore his reputation somewhat, and Inter will certainly provide him with a platform to do so.

He should give Zlatan the Allardyce treatment.

so what happened 2 years later rafa?

in all honesty he's on a hiding to nothing there. he wins everything - well he did it with mourinho's team. he doesn't - rafa's fucked up again.

he's clearly a self handicapper though and will no doubt make it harder for him than it has to be.

He was absolutely brilliant tactically on route to that game, and then perhaps got a bit of deserved luck. People who shit on Rafa regarding Istanbul betray a type of bitterness I really don't understand.

Exactly, they tend to forget how knocked out Juventus and Chelsea to get to that final.
Mind you that Chelsea team was twice as good as ours.

Football hasnt changed Rafa, Its all about winning trophies and trying to win games.
4 years without a trophy isnt good enough.
He's talking too much again and failed to win his first trophy with Inter.
If he keeps making the same mistakes, he will be sacked before the end of the season in Italy

the manager that won the CL with biscan, smicer traore, and baros as the backbone...deserves credit...!

Arsene Wenger hasn't won a Trophy in 6 years.....

Rafa will always be a legend in my eyes for our success in the champions league
Legend? No, not a legend in my eyes.

A very good manager, but not a truly great manager.

* CL 2005
* Fa Cup 2006
* Final League cup 2005
* Final CL 2007
* Brought back Fowler
* Beating Man U away 4-1

Give it a couple of years and you'll consider him a legend.

Kenny, yes, not just for his incomparable skill as a player but also for winning us the Double as boss. Not so sure about Joe F, tremendous club man though he was.
Bill and Bob are our legends.

Joe and Kenny are in the next bracket.

Ged and Rafa are in the third bracket imo.
Pretty much yeah.

Modokay, just because the club is currently at the level in once was doesnt mean Rafa's achievements mean as much as either Paisley's or Shank's, & doesnt put him on par with them as a 'legend' it simply means our expectations are lower.

Legend is term much overused today, as are many superlatives actually, you need to sit back & compare it properly to history to look at something as a 'legend'.
And re-signing Robbie, and beating Salford (in a year when they won the league didn't they?) is not really legendary criteria.
I've never seen Liverpool fans celebrate a player signing like winning a competition, until Robbie re-signed. We all went mad with disbelief and joy.
Rafa was a legend that day you can't deny it.

The usual cunts on Rafas back. Quelle surprise.
The usual suspects calling anyone who doesn't worship our former manager cunts. Quelle surprise.

I don't think it was a great one liner from Rafa. He'd have been better saying how crap Zlatan was when he'd played against us in the CL.

Great response by Rafa putting things into perspective.

There is no other manager on earth who would have won the '05 CL title in Istanbul with the team we had. That Rafa achieved that is pure magic!

Bollocks Niall. Where did I say they have to worship him? Its fucking boring listening to same ramblings of incoherent twats, bumbling on about Benitez. He's gone, they've got what they wanted and still they carry on. Its fucking dull.
