Rafa... Yay or Nay?

This is a point Ryan has mentioned in the past, for which he has been ripped, but Jay was at the final on Saturday, right next to the dugout and he thought Kenny was like a rabbit in the headlights, he did nothing to direct the team and kept looking back to his assistants for help. He looked lost.

I mentioned this after I went the match, that & the players running over & asking for direction or where they should be is what I found most worrying.

A sad indictment of his assistants as well, then. But from the close-ups I saw that didn't seem the case at all. Was Jay standing in front of the technical area looking back at Kenny, or was he using a fishing rod and a mirror to assess Kenny's expression?
No, he was right behind our bench.

And close enough to hear him shouting instructions (or not) or seeing him pointing where and what players should be doing (or not).

We seemingly are all pretty damn fractious on here still...myself included....however Im just not up for this bloodletting. Maybe Jay projected some of his own emotions onto Kenny while watching him?? I remember feeling pretty fucking blue when we were 2 nil down n all....

IMO Kenny played his best possible team on Saturday, sadly two or three of his best players let him down and gifted Chelsea a goal who then spent the next 50 minutes content for us to huff and puff.

We were all losing and lost.

IF fsg get rid of Kenny, and despite what im saying about Rafa in this thread I do not want him gone, IF they get rid of him lets just let it be their decision this time insetad and cut out the bad karma half arsed negative shit.... Kenny Dalglish rabbit in the headlamps?? have a word...

ps I know you are not doing anything but... well.... rabbit in the headlamps..come on.... I hope you get what im saying isnt personal I dont mean any offence im just a bit too fucking gutted to be reading shit like that right now....

Why is everyone getting all ate up? I'm passing on the observations and feelings of someone, a Kenny supporter, who was so close to the bench as to be able to touch and hear them rather than people who saw about a total of 15 seconds on the telly. So shove your "have a word up your arse".

As you want Sheik, fair enough.

The argument 'Look how well weve done since he left' is fucking laughable.
By the time he left he had pissed off and sold Xabi and Arbeloa, wasted our last big budget on Keane and Aquilani and left behind a team in mortal decline. It wasnt fucking helped of course by hicks and gillet and certainly not by the transfer window Roy had in charge but the rot was already set in and Torres and Mascherano (and Yossi) had already decided to leave. The downward spiral we have been on wasnt because Rafa left, it was because he stayed.

And im accutely aware that Kenny has fucked up in his first year of rebuilding this club, but to talk seriously about outing him in favour of the man who started our decline (after some good times of course) is a fucking joke. It amazes me. Rafa had 6 years and the last one showed how far we had gone backwards, Kenny has had one, won a trophy and people want him out and Rafa back in. Astonishing.
Kenny has had to rebuild a team that had El Zhar, Babel, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Krygiakos, Spearing, Cole etc in it and lost his world class centre forward. He has had one full transfer window to put it right and has won a trophy (6 years on from our last one).
Its been equal parts a shambles but one year isnt enough to prove yourself. Rafa had 6.

The rafalution is over, it was close, it bought good memories and, unfortunately some bad ones.

Stick with Kenny till his contract is over and then decide if he's fit to continue. First trophy in 6 years and an appearance in another final allows him that although be on your guard as the league position is unacceptable.

If Kenny moves on, find someone new. Never go back, look what happens when you return to an ex-manager.

- Kenny's came in 8th Jan 2011 so he had the rest of that month to buy players and he spent £57m.
He then had a full summer transfer window where he spent in excess of £100m and then he had the January 2012 transfer window when we bizarrely failed to sign a centre mid and striker.

Rafa's first season in the league was very poor, there's no denying that. nonetheless there was plenty of encouraging signs that we onto a winner with Rafa - exciting signs(Alonso, Garcia), our unexpected success in the Champions League, players of modest ability punching well above their weight, an identity and philiosphy on the pitch etc. That's not to mention the fact we had someone in charge who had 2 La Liga Title's and a UEFA Cup in the seasons before, so when you take all that into consideration patience and trust was given. With Kenny, we had an LFC Legend coming back to rescue his beloved Club who were not long out of a crisis off the field, and still in it, on the field and someone who'd been out Football Management for over 10 years. The two cases are incomparable mate.

Initially he did very well - got players like Johnson, Skrtel, Maxi, Meireles and Kuyt performaning, got us playing good attractive football and got us winning games.

This season though, we haven't klicked on, we've gone backwards. He'll know himself and doesn't need some nobody on an internet forum to tell him but our worst league campaign in almost 60 years and he has to take full responsibility for it. The signs aren't good going forward and i honestly think he might walk away come the summer, he looks lost on the sidelines and he doesn't look to be enjoying himself. Whatever happens, big chances are needed again at LFC.

Excess of £100m in the summer? How did he do that?

Gone backwards? Probably, but only a little.

Big chanGes, not really. Probably only 2-3 players.

The squad he left included:

Reina
Cavalieri
Johnson
Kelly
Insua
Agger
Carra
Skrtel
Kyrgiakos
Lucas
Spearing
Shelvey
Gerrard
Aquilani
Riera
Babel
Benayoun
Kuyt
Ngog

and £70m of talent sold in Mascherano and Torres. We've spent another £40m or so on top of anything we've brought in. That means since he left we've had £110m to add to the above players. To try to blame him for any of the problems with our squad now is one of the most laughably biased and forlorn efforts I've ever seen.

Do the same for Rafa's transfers and you'll also end up laughing biasedly and forlornly.

Sorry, £100m in Jan&Summer transfer windows.

Considering the second half of last season, i feel we have gone backwards this season. The football isn't as free flowing and fluent, the players look lost and we don't have a plan B. We don't have an identity and we have too many average footballers playing regularly in our first team.

Whilst 2 to 3 players might be all we need in terms of the first team, i think we might see 6 or 7 leaving the Club and they'll be needing replaced so in that respect we'll need to see big changes.

Ah the old net spend. End of the day, Kenny was given big, big money to improve the squad and he didn't spend it wisely.

You can't point to us selling this player and that player for wasting away transfer funds.

Now I'd hate to see Kenny get sacked but if he isn't our manager come June, I wouldn't mind seeing Martinez take over.
If the owners instead chooses to hire Benitez, he'd have my full support.
Rafa seems like the "safe" choice and despite his last season here you can't really undermine his achievements.

Right. Not sure what point you're trying to make there. I'm saying the squad Rafa left plus the money invested means there's really no excuse not to be doing MUCH better than we are now. The fact I'm citing net spend is beside the point.

Ah right, apologies. I thought you were referring to Kenny's spending.

No worries. To hammer the point home, though, I reckon that squad needed:

Left back
Centre half
Central mf
2 wingers
3 strikers

after moving on Kuyt (£15m), Benayoun (£5m) and Riera (£5m), to add to the £110m. That would've given £135m to spend on those 8 players, or more than £16m each. The mess the squad's in now has got almost nothing to do with Benitez, and everything to do with a series of terrible decisions made since he left.

No to Benitez. Some good times had, some very bad times had. And certainly heading in the wrong direction when removed.

Like others, I get the feeling Kenny will resign this summer, or be asked to do something else for the club.

I'm sure the new Yanks will be suitably aware of the nightmare of having Rafa on the payroll. Don't think he'd get it if the only applicants were him and Peter Reid.
