Rafa... Yay or Nay?

I just can't be bothered. That season, we thrashed the Mancs 4-1 and only had ourselves for not winning. It's not our divine right (people like to put words in your mouth), but we had a phenomenal team that Slur Alex said 'was the best chance for them to win the league.' Poor results in winnable games cost us. But whatevs, people want Rafa back and are happy to ignore what he did at Inter (great signings) and the last few years. As this year has been very poor (I hope I'm on Molby's list) on many levels, I guess things could get better with Rafa and that's how we should be moving forward.

I'd only have Rafa back if he had his original back room team with him. I think they played a massive part in his successful times.

The mental stage seems to still be part and parcel of his game, considering his 6 month stint with the best team in Italy and Europe.

Can you also show me where I underestimate what he's done?

He took that job wayyyy too quickly after leaving us, he was clearly still emotionally attached to the club & the city in such a massive way that he should never have considered it.

The fact his family told friends they'd be moving back within a week of getting there & his kids were enrolled in their old school straight away also means he knew he'd either be working there without him, or leaving the club. Either one means he wasn't as dedicated as he needs to be.

Id actually bet on him being either mentally compromised throughout most of his time there.

He's definitely mentally compromised but do you actually believe any of this is the reason why Inter went to shit the minute he took over ?

I think the forum would be much more fun if Rafa was brought back. We'd be able to engage in arguments over whose fault everything was and make up nonsensical excuses for why he's shit at his job.

Note the lack of net spend arguments used to defend Kenny, sensible people realise money badly spent is important regardless of the source of the money. Not like when bellends used to defend Rafa signing Aquilani and Johnson for stupid money on the basis that it doesn't matter that they're shite signings there was no net spend so we didn't spend any money !!!!

So yeah let's bring Rafa back and bring out the inner mong in all those posters who believe he's a genius.

Maybe we could bring back the woefully misunderstood GnH and settle it all properly....

Incidentally i dont know who started with all the mong and spaz stuff, i´d just like to state for the record it wasnt me.

I dunno mate. I think he won 3 cups in the short stint, but was benching Milito (who was phenomenal the year before with JM) and making odd decisions in the league. It just seems like there's always excuses for him. He built a great team with us, but he just lost the plot. Why are we so certain it would get better when he'd be inheriting a team that's not as good as the one he inherited in 2005.

GnH aren't misunderstood.

the "constraints" Rafa was under was misunderstood as being something other than completely normal, he just moaned louder about it than everyone else.

I don't think FSG are going to be splashing the cash so would Rafa be happy working with a limited budget? I fully appreciate what he did for us but his complaints at Valenica, Liverpool and Inter about the lack of financial backing shows which way it would go, internal feuding. That's the last thing we need.

Yeah it was all completely normal Rosco.... Its just my inner mong talking...No matter....as you were....

Where's the extra 40m we should have every year because of the interest we're no longer supposedly paying Molby ?

That question is open to the floor btw. They're gone a good while now we should have seen at least an extra 60m in net spend.

But you said yay ...

This isn't about Kenny mate ... If you want to dissect how poor the signings have been, I'll happily do so in another thread.

Dear "I wish we had never let go of Rafa", where exactly did I say it was a divine right? Fergie said we blew it that year, and it was our best chance. You know why? Because even he realized that we had the team to win it that years, and were it not for those piss poor results against average teams where the line ups were shifted, we'd have won the league ... I don't remember Torres' games played that year - but he played most of the 2nd half no? Lastly, I'm glad in your desire to see him come back, you'll happily ignore his last years where he won nothing and made very average big money signings. Isn't that why you want Kenny fired? Wait, maybe his 6 month stint in Serie A is why we should bring it back? Fuck it, I'm in! yay!

LOL. Alright, I'll take this point by point.

1. 'I wish we had never let go of Rafa'. Right. Like that's a really crazy position to take, after all. Done so fucking much better since his sacking after all. Yeah. Really marks me out as ridiculous, that one. Hardly any other LFC fans come round to that view over the last couple of years. Oh no.

2. Fergie said? Fergie? Really. Mr Disinterested, him.

3. What exactly were all these games he cost us with outlandish selections? As far as I remember almost all those dropped points were due to either late defensive errors or a general lack of firepower and creativity, and hardly surprising since our options in attacking wide positions consisted of Kuyt, Babel, Riera, Benayoun, even fucking El Zhar. That squad had great strengths but it also had real weaknesses; of course Benitez has to take some blame for that, but also the credit for squeezing so much out of it.

4.I'm not sure exactly what Torres's appearances record was, but I reckon between absences and periods of finding his form he missed about half the season. I don't think he scored at Anfield until the Chelsea game at the start of February, for example.

5. I never said I wanted him back.

6. I never said I wanted Kenny fired.

7. I don't defend him because I ignore his 'last years when he won nothing'. I think his last 4 years were on the whole very successful by our recent (last 20 years) standards. I defend him partly because of that period, not in spite of it.

1 - He was struggling on every level when he was let go. So we'd have done as bad, if not worse, most likely. I thought Kenny had turned it around last year, but now I'm a bit worried the slide that started with Rafa may continue.

2 - Ok.

3 - We had a few very poor draws to poor opposition - a draw with Wigan stands out (1-1 I think?), also the Arshavin draw (4-4) ... We also had a ton of non-scoring draws (I can't remember the teams, but if you want them - I'll troll through google to find 'em). That cost us ... and whether or not it was Torres being out (I don't remember), there were a lot of curious line ups that had people up in arms back then.

4- I checked wiki - 14 in 24. So he missed 14 games ...

5 - You've said it a few times mate in other threads

6 - Ok, I'm still undecided.

7 - The last 4 years were very successful? Come on ...

On a sidenote, I fucking hated watching Rafa not showing any emotions on the pitch. You celebrate when we win and scores goals. Love Kennys reaction!

This is a point Ryan has mentioned in the past, for which he has been ripped, but Jay was at the final on Saturday, right next to the dugout and he thought Kenny was like a rabbit in the headlights, he did nothing to direct the team and kept looking back to his assistants for help. He looked lost.

Yes - if we can keep this separate from any supposed 100% declaration of faith in everything he does - that's the one thing in football that keeps me believing in the game as a game.

That's worrying mate ... Maybe we need to hire an excellent assistant manager who can help and be groomed to replace Kenny in the future?

Oh dear I few of my mates with season tickets have said this before 🙁

A sad indictment of his assistants as well, then. But from the close-ups I saw that didn't seem the case at all. Was Jay standing in front of the technical area looking back at Kenny, or was he using a fishing rod and a mirror to assess Kenny's expression?

I don't understand why anyone would give a fuck whether he did the haka on the sideline, burst into tears or turned his head away from the game to eat a bag of crisps.
