Rafa... Yay or Nay?

I am so in the middle with Rafa

He was great, then got arrogant and jarg

it's fucking unreal that people can't see what rafa achieved for us.

I think we can. Or at least I think I can. I just don't think he progressed after his first three years, I didn't like (rather than respected) his tactics and lost a lot of faith in him in his last year (and beyond). It's not an either/or thing.

A better team? What? They had to rely on two Macheda finishes to ensure the league stayed with them. We had a better team than them that year - stupid ass formations against weak opposition cost us.
.

Do you really believe we had a better side than that United team? A United side that appeared in 3 CL finals in 4 years. Thank god for Barca...

I honestly cant believe that this thread exists when Kenny Dalglish is our manager and is one year into the job of putting right the wrongs Rafa and Roy did.
Rafa can fuck off.

Amen to that, brother.

Rafa can fuck right off. The day he left was one of the happier days in the last few years.

We had Torres and Gerrard score how many goals between them? Alonso and Mascherano in the mid? Kuyt had a tremendous second half, with Riera solid throughout. Our defense was being solid as fuck with Hyypia and Carra, and Reina was amongst the best in England (if not the best). That first 11 was better than the Mancs imo. We didn't win it because of piss poor results against weakened oppositions.

I could care less about their CL runs. Liverpool appeared in 2 CL finals in 3 years, and there were 3 teams better than us comfortable in all 3 years.

we got enough points to win the league in any other year bar that one. you're talking shite.

Oh no Macca, because we can't see past those 3 years, it's unreal. It's more unreal that people want to replace Kenny with a man who was fired within 6 months with a team that had just dominated Italy and Europe, and who had won a grand total of 0 trophies for Liverpool after the FA Cup win.

The point is that right now having spent the best part of 80M in one fucking splurge there are 8 teams better than us just in the premier league...

Remind me again why we didn't win the league that year? Had to do with poor results against poor teams due to weird personnel moves, right? That's what we want to do with a team that still needs a few more players before it can compete?

How about his last season, we he won nothing, had us finish in 7th etc - that's what we badly need? How about his record at Inter Milan? Is that something we're really desperate for?

This is getting beyond ridiculous. We have decent owners it seems - what owners has Rafa ever got along with? We want to cause strife there? Really?

He did great in his first few years, built a wonderful team, set up the academy to succeed (hopefully) but he couldn't win the league when he had one of the best Liverpool teams in quite some time ... He hasn't had it for a while now - why waste another huge settlement fee once we let him go when the fans are furious with his 7th place finish and playing Carroll at LW.

I love how some of our fans, sensible people and all, still talk as if we had some divine right to win the title, years and years after we last got even remotely close. As if the 'failure' must automatically be due to some facile error by an idiotic manager, and nothing at all to do with, for example, being up against one of the most formidable PL teams ever assembled managed by one of the all-time greats. No doubt there were some frustrting results that season and some poor decisions, but on the whole that squad of players really had no right to be getting 86 points, especially considering Torres missed half the season through injuries.

But why recognise all the good stuff when you can take it for granted, bitch about some home draws, ship him out, and then 2 years later sit back and luxuriate in the wonderful glory of our nice shiny Carling Cup?

Agree completely, but still unsure he's the right man should kenny step down (or up).

That said, I'd be inclined to agree with genes earlier post, it's very hard to find another manager who would be able to do a better job, & whether Henry & co are capable of that is questionable, so Rafa may well be the best option.

There is always the chance he may well have gotten his mental stage out of him now those owners have gone & we may get that genius Rafa back we had for those first two/three seasons.

it's fucking unreal that people can't see what rafa achieved for us.

It's also unreal that people continually rewrite and exaggerate what he did and continue to overlook his shortcomings and the fact he had enough time to sort his shit out, yet continued to be the victim of his own stubbornness.

I guess that's just me being a SPASTIC though.

This isn't about Kenny mate ... If you want to dissect how poor the signings have been, I'll happily do so in another thread.

Dear "I wish we had never let go of Rafa", where exactly did I say it was a divine right? Fergie said we blew it that year, and it was our best chance. You know why? Because even he realized that we had the team to win it that years, and were it not for those piss poor results against average teams where the line ups were shifted, we'd have won the league ... I don't remember Torres' games played that year - but he played most of the 2nd half no? Lastly, I'm glad in your desire to see him come back, you'll happily ignore his last years where he won nothing and made very average big money signings. Isn't that why you want Kenny fired? Wait, maybe his 6 month stint in Serie A is why we should bring it back? Fuck it, I'm in! yay!

United had the best defense in the league that year plus they had Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov. They won the title because they had superior strength in depth.

The mental stage seems to still be part and parcel of his game, considering his 6 month stint with the best team in Italy and Europe.

Can you also show me where I underestimate what he's done?

I guess we weren't that close, and had they not come back from that 2-0 deficit to Villa, they'd have still won the league comfortably. My bad. Vote changed to yay.

And indeed spend perhaps a whole 18 months calling for Rafas head before they chopped him, loyal fans to the end, even happily counting each new member of cabal of disgruntled fans as it grew and yet...From my viewpoint a similar kind of collective genius which occasionally shows itselfs on the signing of shite players and even the appointment of Roy....

Strangely many of the same people would be quite defensive should you point out the glaringly obvious that Kenny has made a dogs fucking dinner of it this season....

I'd give Kenny another season, but I don't think he will get one.

So in that scenario, yay.

I think the forum would be much more fun if Rafa was brought back. We'd be able to engage in arguments over whose fault everything was and make up nonsensical excuses for why he's shit at his job.

Note the lack of net spend arguments used to defend Kenny, sensible people realise money badly spent is important regardless of the source of the money. Not like when bellends used to defend Rafa signing Aquilani and Johnson for stupid money on the basis that it doesn't matter that they're shite signings there was no net spend so we didn't spend any money !!!!

So yeah let's bring Rafa back and bring out the inner mong in all those posters who believe he's a genius.
