Progress?

Thats bullshit Mark and you know it. I am as happy as anyone else that we play nice football and start to get endresult from games we dominate. That is a change from last season were we dominated games with no endresult. However the big difference is that Suarez puts away chances he missed last . Big progress? What are the demands around?

"I am as happy as anyone".

Do you read your own posts? Do you have a blindspot for the seething, ill-disguised displeasure at our current league position you repeatedly portray in your offerings? You've posted about it enough times, you've just started your initial post having a pop about it, so it's not "bullshit" is it?

The demands are for visible progress, like I said we should have achieved more in the cups, we could have done more in the league (though a loftier finish isn't beyond reach), but all I can take from the season is what I can see with my own eyes, and that's not too dissimilar in parts to what Kenny had us playing in his first six months, at our best now and our best then, it's about as well as I can remember us playing since the season we finished 2nd under Rafa, and we're still some way off that level of personnel, so....

So the only progress is that Suarez is scoring?
The trade up from Carroll to Sturridge?
Adam to Allan or Coutinho?

The overall play?

Insig maybe agenda driven, Mark, but he has every right to question where we're going. We've done far less well the Cups and we're on course for a similarly pointless league position. Yeah, I can see the progress through the football we're playing and our attitude on the pitch, but there's clearly enough evidence to not jump on board the 'everything is rosy' train either.

The site would be worse with only one point of view expressed. Let it go. .

No one said everything is rosy though did they? I said we should have done better in the cups and progress in the league has been marginal, but the improvement in play is visible. It IS all ifs and buts, what HE posted was just hyperbole. It's not reasonable opinion, it's having a snipe for the sake of it, like he does continuously. And if you read his subsequent post where he tried to backtrack and lavish praise on our play, I think it's reasonable to question the need for the initial outburst. Of course all opinions are different and that's what makes the forum, the clashes because of that are also crucial. If he has a divine right to post hysterically, I've every right to take offense to it.

The fact about the scoring this season is the interesting one. Its much more difficult to create a team which scores freely. So we should be glad that Rodgers seems to know how to get us playing attacking football.

Defensive work should always be more simple to organise, I do worry if Rodgers has the technical / tactical nous or experience to sort this out straight away. But we cant really complain about our defence from Rodgers point of view as none of the defence are players he has bought.

You can also argue that Suarez amazing season is partly linked with the set up and tactics Rodgers have introduced.

Exactly, Suarez gets provided with better chances now then he did last season.
It just feels like he did everything himself back then.

First half of the season he was creating everything AND scoring. Last season he created everything and missed for fun. There's a difference in his shooting accuracy this season, and it's not simply because of the chances created.

Okay, I guess he might listen soon. 96th times a charm.

We have made progress but that wasn't exactly difficult.
I will be interested to see how Brendan fares when the expectation is raised, he's effectively had a honeymoon season this year.
One definite plus point is we are now signing players who look like they're actually good at football. For some reason, that hasn't always been policy.

Luis Suarez EPL last season vs this season:

Last Season ------------------------------This Season
_________________________________________
31 games ------------------------------27 games
11 goals--------------------------------21 goals
232.4 minutes per goal ------------115 minutes per goal
10% conversion rate ----------------18% conversion rate

So, his conversion rate's nearly twice as good as last season.

So, with some simple extrapolation, he will be converting more than 1 in 3 chances next season and will score 40-50 times

And if you apply that to his selling price then we won't take any less than £66.3 million for him thanks very much

Nevermind last season, there's been definite progress from the start of this season.

We need to end it strongly, but more importantly start next season with intent, which is something we haven't done for a while.
