It's marginal isn't it, to be fair. We've scored alot more goals this year though, but as we know, we've shipped loads too.

Every year, we're a few players short it seems ... We need 2-3 players on the 'defensive side,' and we could be a very good team.

Missing out on Studge in the Summer cost us 4th place ...

It's definitely progress though - a few issues need ironing out however, or we won't be anything more than a 6-8th place team next year either.

I'm a little confused.
Is that referring to the number of games played ?

Because, according to that Andy Dunn column this morning:

"Liverpool are three points worse off than they were after 26 matches of the 2011-12 campaign."

???

As in we've got more points from the corresponding fixtures last year.

Wait I thought we were in turmoil?

Anyway, I don't judge progress by how many points we've got. I'm more interested in how we do on the pitch and this season I've seen enough to think that we're heading in the right direction.
But we're far from being a top contender. We still need more alternatives.
Case in point, when Sturridge and Enrique got injured.

Maybe we should look at the bigger picture, as correpsonding fixtures cant be a good way of measure? All the other teams has developed in one or the other direction as well? All seasons lives their own lives and all games can be won. The fact is that we are no better at grinding 3 points then we were last season, and we are not better at cynically progress in the cups.

So what is progress? In my eyes it must mean that we are better off or better positioned than we would have been if we stuck with the alternative. As if replacing Kenny and Clarke with Dalziel and Pasco were taking us places we would not have been elsewhere.

In my eyes Henry had a plan of finding a master tactician already before Kenny was hired. But in a way he was left with no options than turning to Kenny when Hodgson didn't work out at all. And when Kenny delivered entusiasm, good football and brought the club together with their fans he was bound to get a long contract. Again I think it was against Henrys original plan.

So when we had the chance to fire Kenny we grabbed it with both hands. It is what happened after that that is the big issue here. I think Rodgers has sold himself in with an idea that he plays possesion oriented football, which young cheaper players can fit in to. I think he believed more in that idea himself in the summer than he does at the moment. And it is easy to see the board finding such an approach lucrative. But they were horrible worng or naive. The project they bought is extrmelly complicated, and the chance of progressing with our system/style is small.

Would we be closer to the CL if Kenny was still in charge? I strongly believe so. We came from back to back cup finals, and were well prepared to take the team further. However the team was a tad expensive for FSG, and they needed someone used to work on a smaller budget. I think we should have gone for an experienced manager who is proven in releasing potential and will not be crumping under pressure. Rodgers doesn't fit my bill at all for seeing progress for the whole club.

Progress this season should clearly be about a top four position. It should also be about semis at least in cups. Putting the club back were it belongs which is being a force to reckon. So on the pitch we have clearly not made any progress at all.

That's not what you said when Rodgers was first appointed. But then, you have gone utterly mental since then.

Progress from our most disgracefully awful season (in the league) in years, but then that shouldn't have been hard.

We were wonderful today though, let's hope it continues. Also, with that first XI, he's really got no excuses. It's packed with quality, and plenty of decent backup on the bench. This squad should be totting up 70 points plus next season, that's the standard Rodgers has to be measured against.

Just looking at Hendo, downing and Suarez this season compared to last shows progress as an attacking team.

Once again, doing well against an under-strength team is going to send the nut-o-meter into overdrive.

Hardly Macca, people are allowed to celebrate a good result and/or good performance though. Just as much as people are allowed to use every defeat as a reason to ground fans and point out "I told you so's" all over the shop.

I do agree that progress in terms of results has been marginal, but anyway, I think we've the basis of a very good attack now, but we seriously need to overhaul the defensive side of our game.

There was little difference in today's performance from Monday's performance - Stevie misses a penalty in one, and we lose on two late goals. Stevie hits one in another and we crush a team, as we should have done in our last 3 games. Part and parcel of a team that doesn't have many leaders (Carra? Suarez?) and still struggles with confidence issues.

Little difference???

Have you been at the crack pipe again?

Quite, though I kind of get LTW's point, if Gerrard had scored on Monday it probably would have ended differently. The performance was alot different though, today there was a determination to be first to the ball, that was severely lacking on Monday, and attacking wise, against WBA we were all huff and puff but little else.

We dominated on Monday too ... So it wasn't 30+ shots to 1 (or 2) domination, but 20+ to 3 ... We didn't take advantage of our break there, and it cost us. Today we did. Don't let the scorelines fool you - today should have been 8/9/10-0 and we should have thrashed West Brom (& Zenit for that matter too).

The difference was the ball didn't really get near our CB's and keeper today, if it had, we'd have probably lost 6-5.
If we can keep it away from them for every game between now and the end of the season we'll win all of them.

Bollocks.

We were shit the other night, regardless of 'dominance', we never really looked like scoring, and even the penaly award was lucky. We were great today.

Rafa? What the fuck has that got to do with anything? So I like him and must be wrong? Or........ something. I mean, some other irrelevant nonsense, anyway.

Heaven forbid, I'm just trying not to escalate the situation with a known extremist like you. Hence, I called you the name of a man we respect to varying levels as a compliment. It has nothing to do with you being right, wrong or Buddhist.
