I think the judge has placed a lot of emphasis on the fact he made the girl sit through a cross-examination by pleading not-guilty, despite being fully aware the police had access to all the messages. That's as bad, if not worse than the crime itself, IMO. It was reported she attempted suicide due to the stress of the trial and the abuse she's received, etc. I agree with you - he's been over sentenced, but that's how it's been rationalised.
His sister's ex posted a photo of her on there.
