Another ‘back to winning ways’ thread. This is where we see Slots squad plans. I hope it resembles the below

Alisson

Bradley
Konate
Virgil
Tsimikas

Gravy
Macca
Szobo

Salah
Jota / Nunez
Gakpo

I’d expect Macca & Szob to be knackered from last night and be candidates for early subs.

There’s going to be goals, and we need to be maximising every home game now.

I don't care who as long as it isn't diaz

If he's insistent on starting a not 9 at 9, then here's some suggestions better than Diaz.
Szob. He's tall, presses like a demon and is strong enough. Great technique and vision and in theory might score more.
Macca. Not as tall, but still a threat in the air. Tenacious with wonderful technique and vision.
Jones. Hold on to the ball well (sometimes too much) but has vision and a knack for making the right runs in the box.
Fucking start kelleher at the 9. At least he'll challenge aerially.

We're weaker than the sum of our parts with Diaz at 9

Yep, I think everyone is agreed that the Diaz thing just doesn't work. He should just be alternating with Gapko, but in truth, he looked absolutely brainless last night and I'm losing my patience with his lack of end product. At least Nunez gets into good positions and has a good understanding with the other attackers, Diaz is out there on his own every time.

Trent----Konate------VVD----Tsmikas--
-----------------Gravy-------------------
--------Szobo----------Macca----------
--Salah----------Jota---------Gapko---

With so many games coming up, I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of changes. The obvious ones being in the fullback areas, but with Jones out, I think Elliott might figure somewhere, Endo needs to get a decent amount of minutes too to give Gravy a breather. But go strong, win it and then make the changes.

Is he ill? I’d be surprised to see Diaz left wing considering the game time he’s had the past two weeks.

Gakpo, however, was substituted late on and Slot, speaking in his press conference, confirmed that he was brought off after suffering a knock that will make his availability a doubt for Wolves.

He said: "We saw Trent of course being able to play, it was the intention to play around half an hour. He will be training with us again. Joe Gomez is out, Tyler Morton is out.

"We were off yesterday so I don't know exactly. Cody is a bit of a doubt as well. Let's wait and see how he is today but I had to take him off because of an injury. He got a knock. So let's see how he is today."

4 league games in 11 days followed by a 10 day break. Konate will break again if we keep playing him twice a week. I’d rest him against Wolves and hope that he can cope with 3 games in 8 days against Villa, City and Newcastle.

Or give him as much rest (subs) as feasible? Get him off after HT whenever we are in control?

I thought he looked good against Everton for the most part, but movement wise I don't think he looked 100% comfortable, which is what he was like the last time he returned. The last thing we need to do is to burn him out before he even gets going. It's risky either way IMO. We need him more against Villa and City, can we risk Endo or Quansah though? I'm not so sure. If we break Konate, we'll be forced into playing them anyway.

I would start Quansah against Wolves. One of the points in the Josh Williams video I posted in another thread was how Everton successfully targeted Konate in the build-up - this is one area where Quansah can potentially have an advantage over Konate due to his Matip-like ability to bring out the ball from the back if given the space. It would be smart to give it a try against Wolves and see if we can start repairing Quansah’s confidence - we will need him to step up now that Gomez might be out for the season.

Slot will be in the dugout on Sunday then. The FA have charged him but released the statement at 17 pm meaning we can only respond on Monday and he’ll likely miss City.

Hasn’t he said he’s playing through the pain atm?

I thought the time line of back and forths meant that we could string this out so he's available for City + Newcastle?
