Fair fucks.

I spent the 2nd half chatting to my Porto fan friend, trying to cheer him up. He was pretty downcast by the end, understandably…

I'm sure Porto fans will be watching thinking what on earth, I'm pretty sure they don't play like that every week.

Maybe it's just a Liverpool thing.

Anyway the laughing stock of Europe tonight isn't Porto.

I guess this is a great example of the positive risk reward scenario of playing your full strength side mid week before a huge game on the weekend.

The side will be full of confidence going into the City game now.
Mane, Salah, Bobby all scoring.
Jones on fire.
Overall mood very positive.
Top of the league and paying respect to one of our greats in Roger Hunt.

Roll on Sunday!

I love this kid, he has every weapon to his game,

1) Coutinho-esq skills to dribbles

2) Can take on multiples on Grealish levels and with pace

3) can tackle and press better than any attacking mid currently in this league

4) has demonstrated creativity and awareness

In summary he is what we are crying out for as the third mid. He creates chaos, and I dare you all - look back to last season against City at home , the 70mins we were 1-1 before Curtis was taken off , those fuckers were very contained because of Curtis ability to hold onto that ball.

Jones controlled the game tonight. He's a clever player. Seemed as if, over his last 12-15 games, he was treading water. Made a great start then seemed to stall. But mayby he was playing himself into the side, bedding in, in a sense. Getting the pace of the Premier. Now he understands what's required, time to make that step up and start to seriously influence the gig.

The defining moment might've been that goal against Brentford. This next 10-12 games is going to be interesting re Jones career.

He's had a great few games but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. He wasn't setting the world alight after he broke into the first team and was rightly dropped. Even last season when we had our struggles his form didn't really pick up. Let's hope he will really kick on from now on. The real test will come against Citeh.

I don't know what's wrong with me lately but I'm just not that bothered about the CL right now. Obviously because it's the group stage. I just know that we'll make it to the playoff round.
The only thing concerning me is the league this season, because it's looking like it's going to be a very tight race.

Was thinking about Elliott when Ox got on the pitch. It's terrible that he's on the sidelines missing out on all this valuable game time.

Quick ratings:

Alisson n/a
Milner 7.5 – a lot of his build-up play looked similar to Trent, once or twice I caught myself thinking "TAA would have played exactly the same pass here." The cross for Mane's goal would have made Trent proud as well – once again a monster performance from Milly.
Matip 7 – untroubled
Van Dijk 7.5 – after he set the tone with a few crushing challenges early on, no Porto player dared to come close for the rest of the game.
Robertson 8 – finally starting to look like he's rediscovering his attacking skills. Good interplay with Mane and Jones and constantly made runs beyond their defense.
Fabinho 7.5 – perhaps fortunate not to be booked for a couple of agricultural challenges, but generally stopped anything Porto were trying to build up through the middle
Henderson 7 – usually the furthest forward of the 3 midfielders and spent a lot of time on the wing doing the little triangles and interchanges with Salah and Milner. Not everything worked, but overall a decent performance.
Jones 9 – he was playing like a fucking scouse Zidane tonight, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and dominating. 3 assists ain't too shabby. I hope he stays down to Earth and does't think he's already made it.
Mane 7 – started rather poorly, but grew into the game and gained confidence from the goal. Great overall effort and energy.
Jota 6.5 – unlucky not to get on the scoresheet or get an assist, kept trying but wasn't his day
Salah 8 – as usual this season, consistently brilliant. His overall game looks more well-rounded than at any point in his LFC career.

Subs:
Firmino 7 – a pretty lucky double off the bench to be honest, but good for him.
Minamino, Gomez, Ox, Origi n/a
