Milner 7.5 – a lot of his build-up play looked similar to Trent, once or twice I caught myself thinking "TAA would have played exactly the same pass here." The cross for Mane's goal would have made Trent proud as well – once again a monster performance from Milly.
Matip 7 – untroubled
Van Dijk 7.5 – after he set the tone with a few crushing challenges early on, no Porto player dared to come close for the rest of the game.
Robertson 8 – finally starting to look like he's rediscovering his attacking skills. Good interplay with Mane and Jones and constantly made runs beyond their defense.
Fabinho 7.5 – perhaps fortunate not to be booked for a couple of agricultural challenges, but generally stopped anything Porto were trying to build up through the middle
Henderson 7 – usually the furthest forward of the 3 midfielders and spent a lot of time on the wing doing the little triangles and interchanges with Salah and Milner. Not everything worked, but overall a decent performance.
Jones 9 – he was playing like a fucking Zidane tonight, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and dominating. 3 assists ain't too shabby. I hope he stays down to Earth and does't think he's already made it.
Mane 7 – started rather poorly, but grew into the game and gained confidence from the goal. Great overall effort and energy.
Jota 6.5 – unlucky not to get on the scoresheet or get an assist, kept trying but wasn't his day
Salah 8 – as usual this season, consistently brilliant. His overall game looks more well-rounded than at any point in his LFC career.

Subs:
Firmino 7 – a pretty lucky double off the bench to be honest, but good for him.
Minamino, Gomez, Ox, Origi n/a
I'd give Ali an 8. Just for making me feel like no shot is going to get by him. And what's more he'll probably catch it.

Agree with everything else.

He's had a great few games but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. He wasn't setting the world alight after he broke into the first team and was rightly dropped. Even last season when we had our struggles his form didn't really pick up. Let's hope he will really kick on from now on. The real test will come against Citeh.

And let's not forget that he's 20 years old and not been a totally regular starter. His progression is great and it looks very positive for the future.

Always great to have a couple of scousers in the team too.

I spent the 2nd half chatting to my Porto fan friend, trying to cheer him up. He was pretty downcast by the end, understandably…
I actually thought their coach looked like he was going to burst into tears at the end.

Gomez is on a slippery slope. He was really poor when he came on. Hopefully it's just a temporary recovery phase for him.

Surely there is no way back for Ox. He's been fit for awhile now, full pre season and all that, but 20 mins on the pitch and he did absolutely nothing.

Ox is done...even Keita has better prospects and that's saying something

I don't know what's wrong with me lately but I'm just not that bothered about the CL right now. Obviously because it's the group stage. I just know that we'll make it to the playoff round.
The only thing concerning me is the league this season, because it's looking like it's going to be a very tight race.
To an extent I'm the same. Always confident of this group even though it's maybe the toughest. Win at home to AM & Porto (confident but not over-confident of the first) and we've won it and can rest players when we really need to.

The PL is another matter though and City look the team to beat, they dominated Chelsea. Sunday is going to be huge, we need to win that to buffer us against a potential loss at the Etihad. Dropping 6 points to City would likely end our challenge (yes, I can say that even at this early stage because it feels like it's going to be a very tight race).

I really hope we can qualify with 2 games to spare and then not repeat last season’s mistake and give all the main guys a rest. Win and a draw against Atletico should get us there.

Yep. Agree with all of this except ... your spelling of defence !

Lovely win, and the Atletico winning helps create a gap to third place in the group, although it makes it harder to secure top spot than a draw would have done.

Jones was superb, he gave new life to the left side of our attack which has been lacking in the past 6-12 months. His mindset when confident is to progress with the ball, defenders back off him as they know he has a trick and isn't afraid to shoot. He makes things happen and has good vision (the salah assist was a great spot). I really hope we reward this with a start against City.

Mane looked very good, he is more and more threatening, he was looking for his strike partners a lot and was a threat throughout. It is great to see his form continuing to develop.

Milner at RB was good again, strong both defensively and going forward. He should rotate with Trent some more this season to avoid burning out 'The Kid'

Salah as always was brilliant - we are blessed.

I know he has got blamed for the first because he didn't push it into a safer area with the save from Jones– but Jones really did take the shot quickly, and it was well struck from not a great distance. I'm not sure how easy it was to do anything other than save it, and let the gods decide where it ended up. The second was that classic corridor of uncertainty between the line of defense and keeper. These look worse than they really are, I think. Obviously the Bobby one was hapless.

If Jota was a complete arsehole on the pitch he'd get more goals.
I must be the only one that thought that Jota had a good game last night, especially in the first half.
He pressed well and was picking up the ball deeper in pockets of space and causing the Porto defence problems, very much like Bobby does when in the groove

Credit must go to Robbo too here. That was as attacking a performance as we've seen from him recently and his pace and overlapping was key to giving Jones space and options. I think it's pretty clear Klopp let him off the lead because TAA was not on the other wing.

That second was as bad as it gets - I can't understand how he decided he couldn't get there, the replays show he most certainly could have. Horrendous decision that gave Mane a shockingly easy tap in.

He played well - but needed a goal (which he should have got in all fairness) to take his performance to the next level.

He had a decent game, but he just misses too many chances

Jota is normally great in front of goal, and that’ll return. The rest of his game is still there and he played well last night.

I feel he’s the one I want the ball to drop too around the 6 yard box. I think he’s the most clinical in that situation. Salah is more clinical in other areas. I have no stats to back up this feeling.
