Pre Match - Crystal Palace (H) - Sat 15:00

Context is important here.

Third game in a week
75 percent new back line.
1 debut CB
RB had to be replaced this morning.

Performance could have been slicker, but it was a decent one to grind out and there were some moments of class.

Delighted with that.
Thiago injury the only downside.

Keita is Mane is not.

Keita was leaving gaps everywhere when he came on leaving Palace to pile forward and put us under pressure til the second goal.
What a load of bollocks - we were already under pressure - was that also his fault whilst on the bench?

He was nice and tidy when he came on - doing another Gini impression.

Yep, fairly pleased. Job done.

We weren’t getting sliced open through the middle though. He was too far forward on multiple occasions. He’s fucking rubbish. Lovely strike though. Need another 100 to live to to the hype.

Jurgen Klopp : "It is one of the most hard-fought 3-0s ever. We had to give everything. Hard but fair challenges. Physicality was immense and we had to be ready. The chips in behind our full-back gave us trouble. The longer it went they used that more and more. We had to run. Wednesday/Saturday rhythm is really hard. We scored wonderful goals and used our set-pieces. It is massive in games like this. These are the games you have to win, when you are not brilliant.
"We weren't flying today. We had to grind out a proper performance. I liked it. When you look back you have these games when it was really fun. And some was it was important. This is one of those important games."

On Ibrahima Konate: "You can see he is incredibly talented. The potential is outstanding. He is used to winning challenges easy. He is young and he played a really good game. Massive. First home game for him."

On injury to Thiago: "He felt the calf. I don't know right now but we hope it is not too serious."

You were watching a game in your head - I'll leave you to it.

What are you on about mate ? Tons of decent streams out there. I never miss a match - though I may need to refresh a dozen times a game.

You have refresh a dozen times a game and that is decent ? that's like getting some action and having to change condoms a few times while doing in one position. No - that's not on Frogfish.

And an early shot on target that Guaita coughed up that could have been an assist. He was quietly effective, although less quiet that Gina normally was. And, I was a big Gini fan.

Keita just needs a lot of these games to get back to even in most people's eyes.

Quick ratings:

Alisson 7 – a couple of nervy moments, but also big saves and ballsy takes under pressure. There is no way we would have kept a clean sheet in this kind of game with some of the previous GKs at the club.
Milner 7 – that's why he's invaluable. Late replacement for Trent, 95 minutes of Wilfried Zaha running at your 36-year-old legs – no problem. Added toughness and a necessary amount of shithousery, put in a few good crosses, extremely lucky to not get booked.
Konate 6 – looked nervous and played within himself, as to be expected from someone thrown into a tough fixture on their debut. Still just about made the right decisions in key moments and grew into the game somewhat. It's a process.
Van Dijk 6.5 – a couple of surprisingly shaky moments early on, but was able to regain control.
Tsimikas 6.5 – very good attack-wise; almost replacing Trent as our chief creator from the wing. Plenty of small and not-so-small mistakes in defense, in another game that can cost us (pun not intended).
Fabinho 6 – a quiet game for him after 2 MOTM performances in the week
Thiago 6.5 – let's hope the injury is not too bad; his ability to weave the passing patterns in midfield and change tempo at will is increasingly important to our game. Needs to cut out the silly fouls.
Hendo 7.5 – superb overall performance from the captain, so sharp in all of his decisions and combined with Salah and Milner superbly. Unlucky not to get at least an assist.
Mane 7.5 – back to his best in overall play; looked quicker, sharper and even somehow younger than before. Took his goal well and set the record for most consecutive goals against the same opposition (9 in row vs Palace, I think).
Jota 5.5 – somewhat improved in the 2nd half, but 1st half was awful, starting from failing to clear the ball in our penalty area in the first minute to his atrocious miss near the end of the half. Must be totally out of gas because that's the worst I've seen him play.
Salah 8 MOTM – just a cut above the rest. Playing with clarity and confidence; outrageous touches to bring the ball down under pressure, great energy, helped out in defense, assist for Mane and a goal. We're watching a great footballer in action.

Subs:
Keita 6.5 – what a hit, son (lad), what a hit.
Jones 6 – got lost on the LW, but more involved when moved back to the CM and it's the sequence of play he generated that led to the corner that led to Naby’s wondergoal.
Origi 6 – had the Kop singing his name after a useful defensive clearance in added time.

Klopp 7 – navigated a tricky game with some very uneven performances throughout the team due to tiredness and rotation. Took a calculated risk with the rotation in the back line and even though it looked like it could have backfired, it paid off in the end.

So anyway Thiago out so there are now 2 mids we may not be able to select from ? - great. Lets just hope if Fab is the only one left for us then we last till Christmas.

Fabinho (Leeds), Henderson (AC Milan), Keita (Crystal Palace). When was the last time midfielders scored in consecutive games for us? I have forgotten such feeling. 😀

Yeah, and Thiago had a goal disallowed and almost scored today too. This must be something we're working on.

EDIT.

As opposed to not seeing the game at all ?

hopefully he won’t be out for long. We still have Fabinho, Henderson, Jones, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita though.

What you smoking?
He’s been excellent and if anything biased towards us.

No, he wasnt. So many needless free kicks, no authority and it showed that it was his first game at Anfield.

How was he biased towards us? For not giving any of the non pens or calling the right offsides?

Agree with most of that. Mo defo MotM - his tracking back to help out was superb today too. Marks-wise, nitpicking - I'd increase a couple and decrease a couple :

Konate : up to 6.5. Once he settled he was good and that excellent block on Eduardo (sp.) was his not Ali's.
Mane - down to 6.5. His passing was still poor despite going past a few players today. He virtually disappeared in the 2nd and I was surprised he wasn't hooked.
Jota - down to 4 He was far worse than a 5.5 ! One has to wonder what he'd have to (not) do to get lower? His worst ever game for us. And that miss ...

The third rule is every DB started thread should be autodeleted immediately, before ANYONE sees it.
You should have seen the the thread he started a few weeks ago. It was only blind luck I found it before anyone else did. I PM'd him immediately and he deleted it but fuck me sideways!!!!

I mostly agree.
I thought that Mane stunk the place out for the first thirty minutes but was better after the goal
Jota was very poor all game, work rate aside and that was a terrible miss from the rebound off Thiago's header.
I was mostly impressed by Konate but it was obvious that he was adjusting to the pace and the intensity of the Premier League
