Pepe's Goodbye Letter

I'm bummed that he's gone. Great keeper. Good dude.
But I also think that Mignolet will have a good future - so it's cool.

Does anyone else kinda feel like they don't really give a shit what a player says or does any more, as long as they're playing well?

I mean, it sorta used to mean something to me, like the first interview with a new signing where they'd say all the right things and speak well of the club and the fans, but now it just feels like if they do that it means they've got better PR people schooling them on what to do and say.

Pepe's had a little bit of a dig here, but to ve honest I don't really give that much of a shit. He's not the same player he was - and that's not to take away from the fact that he has been great, and is still good - but gone are the days when you look forward to a penalty shootout because you knew he'd save a couple.

Will this new guy he better? Who knows, hope so. I'd settle for as good as to be honest, but I'm not gonna get arsed about how he left or whether he flirted with anyone else, just par for the course with footballers these days I guess.

It's same with Suarez - yes, he's a massive twat, but he's a massive twat who is really good at football. If he stays, cool. If we fuck him off then as long as we get loads of money and don't get stitched like we normally do then that's fine as well
This, many times over.

I'm starting to get slightly annoyed with people being unable to say Mignolet properly it's not Mingolet fuck sake,.

It's not how they spell it, it's how they say it...

Seconded?

Come on, this lad like others moans and moans about our downward spiral but then puts Rafa on a plateau. It was pissing away millions on dross like Keane, Aquilani etc and then moaning about a lack of financial backing, that started it. Massive crippling wage bills and a load of deadwood to move on didn't exactly help us rebuild. It's taken years to get over, which is partly why we're here. Yet this guy can't wait to lay into the owners and Rodgers at every opportunity. From where I'm sitting we've done a relatively good job of restructuring the club and stopping it going under, while Rodgers has been a part of a long term vision for the club to build a young exciting team. It's early days but it's endearing enough to watch us try to work on a project without the manager moaning about a lack of funds.

That's because it was for another team.

Nope. I found it weird that he was probably the least deserving of a winners medal from that squad, considering he did not feature in any of the important/knockout games. But yet there he was grabbing the microphone and giving it socks in front an entire country. Annoying was the wrong word, it was just sad.

That's pretty mean spirited. Did Reina 'deserve' to be the second or third best keeper in the world at a time when the best was his rival for the national team? You could just as easily put a positive spin on it and say how great he is for getting in the spirit of the team and not dwelling on his personal misfortune.

Too many cynics here I think.

Nah, not cynical. I appreciate that Reina was a top quality 'keeper.
But the cheer leading was sad IMO.

The Spanish loved it. Even grudgingly you'd have to accept that it shows a certain amount of character to get up in front of an entire country and MC in such good spirits...

I have a horrible feeling we will miss Reina...

Anyway it's done now should we not just all move on?

I'm not that bothered about him flirting with other clubs. Gerrard probably came closer to leaving us for a rival than Reina did and he was forgiven. If he did come back out of shape and lacking motivation than that is harder to forgive.

Either way, I will remember Reina fondly. He was a great keeper for us and even if he was looking out for his own career at our expense at times (don't blame players for that these days) seemed like a pretty good guy.

We've been missing Reina for a couple of years now.
Ain't that the truth.

A ruthless manager gets things done for the benefit of the club. Not everyone is going to like or loathe him.

Pepe flirted one too many times with Arsenal and Barca. "You should want to play for Liverpool and nobody else, or you should go. You can’t dictate which clubs come in for you" — John Barnes

Except dear old Digger tried to do just that. His reputation has undergone a revision in recent years, but the reality was he was talking about wanting a move to an Italian club - he mentioned Sampdoria a few times without any deal materialising - for a couple of seasons. Then he did his achilles, lost much of his pace and was happy to keep playing for LFC.

Let's just say his talking from his own first hand experience but there's truth to what he says regardless.

And he delayed joining us in the hope that Arsenal would come in for him - allegedly.
