Sell Reina, buy Rosco.
naw, ros flaps at crosses.

Pepe is only 27, a great keeper and he is not fat.

Keeping him at the club should be worth the outlay because as we saw for over a decade, finding a great keeper can be a bit tricky.

Maybe its true his body shape is more southall than van der sar and yes he may not last to 36-37 but he will still be good into his early 30s for sure.

But, he isnt.
Oops Tpyo.

I'm all for being frugal (we need to be) but I don't see the point of selling the best keeper in the World at 27 coz he might be fat when he's 35.

What Larry said.

Also, I want to know what Ross's solution would be?

Sell him now? Allow his contract to run down and get fuck all money for one of the best keepers in the world?

Then what?

I think Ross is pretty much in favour of this deal; we do have the keep the few good players we have left.

It's not remiss tho to worry our past profligacy (ie stop buying shit players and stop splurging good money on said shit players)

We buy back Kirkland because he's always going to be skinny.

I don't think ros has properly thought it through to be honest.

He's the best in the league comfortably these days so getting his signature is worth a drink or two and that's exactly what i'll do.

Fantastic news, we now have £4.21 to spend in the summer.
id rather have £4.21 to spend in the summer and have reina as our keeper than get 15mil or so and give it to benitez to spend it on a keeper that is 1/4 as good as reina and the rest on a squad player like degen or something 😉
I was only kidding, Reina has been our best player this season and for me is the best keeper in the prem.

reinas been fantastic this season, our best player by some distance i think

hes been solid since he first arrived, essential he stays

As I said in my post, this contract seems just about right (even if I do think the wages are more than anyone should pay for a good goalkeeper)

But by the time Pepe is 32 I'd be looking to sell him. In between now and then we can see if anyone of our 143 youth goalkeepers might be up to the task of replacing him.

It's big wage for a keeper but Reina has steadily improved since he got here and is now the best keeper in the league.

And after what 15 years of rubbish I think paying top dollar to keep Reina is every penny well spent.

Star pens Reds deal
Liverpool, 09:18, April 8, 2010

Pepe Reina has signed a new six-year contract at Liverpool and says he has "seen no reason" to want to leave Anfield.

The 27-year-old has already been with the Reds for almost five years, having signed from Villarreal for £6million in the summer of 2005, and is more than happy to commit to a long-term deal.

Despite a frustrating season for Rafa Benitez's men, Spanish international Reina has got no desire to move from Merseyside and insists that he is "happy" at the club.

The goalkeeper told the Daily Post: "Why commit? Because I am happy here and I think the club is happy too. I see no reason to leave.

"I felt wanted from the beginning here. It is not always about being competitive or to be in the biggest club, but being at the right club."

Reina added: "Liverpool is one of the best clubs in the world. Whatever happens, whether we are in the Champions League or the Europa League, it is still Liverpool no matter what."

He is quite clearly as Liverpool-mad as local lads like Gerrard and Carragher.

If you think Gerrard has been off form and might possibly leave this summer, take the captaincy away and see what happens. He will bitch, moan, play shitter than ever, and ask to move.

In some ways, he and Kuyt ARE 'local lads'.
