Frank Rijkaard's agent insists they have not been approached by Liverpool about possibly replacing Roy Hodgson at Anfield.

Hodgson's future at Liverpool has come under intense scrutiny following a disastrous start to the season.

Rijkaard has been mentioned as a possible replacement with the Dutchman being made the strong favourite by Sky Bet following his departure from Galatasaray earlier this week.

However, Rijkaard's representative, Perry Overeem, insists he has had no contact with Liverpool and that the former Barcelona boss will not be rushing any decision over his future.

No approach

"We have not been approached by Liverpool," Overeem told Sky Sports News HD.

"Frank's not thinking about any job at the moment - he wants to put what's happened in Turkey behind him.

"Frank's still in Turkey.

"Whenever we are approached, if we are approached, we will deal with that then but it's not helpful to get into rumours at this stage."

definitely not. he's a dead man walking, everyone can see it. i just don't think a situation can be turned around once things get to such a feverpitch with the fans and all the rumours of his sacking and player unrest.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher insists the whole squad are fully behind under-fire boss Roy Hodgson and it is up to them to start impressing the manager.

Hodgson has found himself under increasing pressure with the Reds enduring their worst start to a season in over half a century.

Liverpool are languishing second from bottom of the table after taking just six points from their opening eight games and speculation is circulating over Hodgson's future in the wake of the recent takeover at Anfield.

Carragher has rallied behind the former Fulham chief and insists it is important they stick together to overcome their wretched form.

"It is very early days in the season and there is a lot of time to go," he said.

"It hasn't always been rosy playing for Liverpool. Last season wasn't great and I remember going 12 games without a win under Gerard Houllier, so it has not always been plain sailing.
Rocky patch

"It is a little rocky patch we are going through at the moment but as long as the players, manager and supporters all stick together it won't be a problem.

"The spirit in the dressing room is fine but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out if you win games it is a lot better.

"The manager is the boss and we should be trying to impress him, not the other way around."

Carragher also defended Hodgson's decision to rest key duo Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres for Thursday's Europa League clash against Napoli.

The Reds defender believes it is more important to rotate players, especially those who have had injury problems.

Big squad

"Steven and Fernando are not here but you have to understand that these days it is a long season and you need a big squad and they are players that have played through summers for years on end," added Carragher.

"Stevie also played through the international break and if you continued with him and Fernando they would eventually break down and you'd complain about that.

"The club are treating them in the right way, physically, and hopefully that will prove right towards the end of the season."

for the record

1. rijkaard
he took over a barca team that was treading water, made shrewed signings like davids, eto'o and deco and introduced some quality young players. it's all well and good saying well my mother could have managed barca to success with the talent they had in display but barca have had some of the most gifted players EVER on their books and before rijkaards arrival they had won the european cup a grand total of ONCE. admittedly he had a brilliant number two and the board were fantastic as well.

2. flores (atletico madrid)
young, hungry, plays fantastic football and has just won the uefa cup. he beat roy in the final, we went for the loser. that makes PERFECT SENSE.

3. emery (valencia)
young, hungry, plays fantastic football, has valencia challenging again for the first time since rafa left.

4. hiddink
good, relieable, teams play great football, did a great job for chelsea and his international teams almost always overachieve.

5. pellegrini
did a fantastic job for villa real and earned the highest points in real's history (despite not winning the league).
team play fantastic football, are physically imposing and are solid at the back.

I would be happy with any of the above, each one of them is a gamble but then even jose mourinho would be a gamble (given our position and quality of squad) but some are less of a gamble than others.
Flores beat Rafa in the semi's too

Maybe if we just leave the doors of Anfield open Roy will escape.

Or just wander out into the community, and stand at a bus stop with a big wee stain in the front of his Farah's?

He'd prob get lost in the players lounge on his way out and then end up chatting to a carboard cut out of Gerrard in the club shop for the next half hour.
Poor Uncle Roy.
Impossible.

If NESV has taken any interest in the situation they'd see that sticking with Roy will lead to nothing but disaster.

They can't be that stupid.
All depend on who has their ear. Who is advising them right now?

RTE sport just reported that betting on Frank R being next manager of Liverpool has been suspended. Whatever that means

Why did I immediately, in my brain, decipher that as Frank Worthington?

*shakes fist at Woy*

See the reason i see validity in these rumours is exactly that!
NESV dont know shit about football so i imagine this conversation taking place.

HENRY-Who is the best club in the world?
ADVISOR-Barcelona.
HENRY-Who is their manager?
ADVISOR-Pep Guardiola.
HENRY-Can we get him?
ADVISOR-No.
HENRY-Were they good before he got there?
ADVISOR-Sure, Domestic and European champions.
HENRY-And who was the manager then?
ADVISOR-Frank Rikjaard.
HENRY-Can we get him?

Thats my unshakeable belief....

So you demote a guy a crafty cunning vengeful guy then you ask his advise on what to do next.

Purslow is responsible for Hodgson's appointment, so I doubt whether the owners would take his opinions about Hodgson's replacement, after eight league games, very seriously.
I think Purslow's role is about to be largely ceremonial.
