This lad's face is cropping up with increasing regularity and apart from being an annoying talking head and wannabee politician, has been reasonably easy to ignore. However, it seems he is linking himself to Hillsborough now (though the story keeps changing appaz), and he's clearly raising his profile ahead of the Stoke by-election.

I was working at the Daily Post and Echo up to when I went to Japan in 1995, so right through the events of that day and years following. I knew people who were involved as well as friends and family one-step removed, and the topic came up a lot when we met, especially as the fight for justice intensified. But in all this time, I never heard his name mentioned until now, and I don't recall him getting involved in the fight as a local politician either.

I was overseas for quite a while so I may have missed stuff. What's his story? Is he genuine or just bandwagoning?

Seems he's admitted that the Hillsborough link was a lie. There's footage of him on tv saying he was a victim of Hillsborough. Scumbag

I believe he made the claim about five years ago when he was joining the calls for the govt to release the files. Sounds like he thought that being a local he could get away with making these kind of claims (presumably to add some kind of weight to what he was saying) and never get called out on it.

The reason he has is because he is standing in the Stoke by election and his opponents are digging around for dirt on him. Ultimately if he hadn't lied he wouldn't have been caught out though.

Where did you live @Robonoodle san? I was in Ibaraki (Mito) for a year and then spent 2 years in Saitama. Fucking loved it and miss it on a daily basis.

Went for 2 years, stayed for 16 🙂 In Hon-Atsugi, Kanagawa for a year, then Ikebukuro for a year, and then Nerima for 14 years. Loved it, most of it. Would go back to visit in a heartbeat, but not to live again. Ibaraki got some hella big shakes after 3/11.

Yeah I know man. Mito was proper knawlsed up. My buddies house was flattened but no one was hurt thankfully. Nerima is proper ace, I went Sakura visiting on the river there. I stayed in the capsule hotel in Ikebukuro - From memory it was one of the only ones that took in gaiijins 🙂

Nerima was cool. We had loads of parks for the kids and although it was a bed town for Tokyo, most folks were nice enough. I wanted to move just over the border into Saitama on the Seibu-sen because the rents were a lot lower, but our landlord was a real diamond and the estate agents we met were complete arseholes, so we stayed.

He appears to have taken on that attempt at the 'country squire' look that Farage was also keen on. Maybe it is some kind of UKIP leader uniform?

I think they both aspire to emulate Roderick Spode. Jacob Rees-Mogg ought to attempt to stick a needle in their hot water bottle the next time they're all spending a weekend at a country estate.

Yeah I lived in Koshigaya which was one of the nicest places ever to live. Truly beautiful and 30mins from Shibuya. I had a massive apartment right next to the river. I think I was the only gaiijin that lived in the town though. Oh man I had fun there!

How can anybody use those things? I don't think I'm especially claustrophobic but I'd find spending a night in one of those trying, to say the least.

Well it was only for a night JJ and I was pretty hammered. It was an experience to say the least. One that happily won't be repeated.

Perhaps Farage has a secret knicker business on the side

I rode the sleeper train from Sapporo down to Tokyo back in 1993. After getting hammered in the first class lounge (they were too polite to chuck me out) I rolled into my "dorm" to find 12 bunks separated by little curtains, and all the other denizens were ladies. I didn't know the Japanese for "Well, this is awkward", so I grabbed the last bunk (top of course) and struggled in. I know I am a snorer and farter after a few bevvies so I knew better than most what was coming. I woke up next morning still an hour from Tokyo and all the other 11 bunks were empty. It was a bit like the end of Papillion when all the natives vanish at the end of the film.

Haha! I once took a 12 hour sleeper to Izu in Honshu. Exactly the same thing happened to me but happily I was travelling with 3 gaiijin girls. We emptied the compartment so quickly we were all a bit affronted! We all bought that god awful nikka whiskey and settled into a fine night playing 'shithead' - We got so smashed I couldn't blame the poor fella who decided it was best to kip in the corridor 😳

I've seen David Wooding in the crowd outside the Main Stand. He is quite innocuous when he does the Sky News paper review - much nicer than all those vile up-their-own-arses "Guardian" journalist women.
