One last signing?

Will we even sign any more players? I doubt it but if we had...let´s say 4-5m who would you want us to buy?

I´d go for Petrov from City. Hard working, great vision and passing.

More likely that we will get a / some loan signings in as cover, however Petrov would be brilliant.

That said there remains just a tiny twinkling light of hope at the back of the deep dark cave that says G&H will amaze us and Silva will arrive on the stroke of midnight.

One thing is for sure, we will really struggle to cover Gerrard / Torres when they are injured / late back from international duty etc. should we fail to buy/ loan more attacking cover.

Petrov's style would probably give us something we don't have on either wing but he's injury prone and I doubt Hughes would sell him to us.

I like the idea of Baptista on loan. Maybe one of the Madrid players as well if they can't agree a sale.

I would have thought loan players was where it's at, and Baptista might work out, though he hardly screams Rafa player given what little I've seen of his work ethic. My only cause to think we might pay for someone is Riera, I can't understand why Riera isn't playing, if we are intending to keep him, and why we would sell him, if we weren't bringing someone in at LW, because we don't have anyone who can play that position consistently effectively.

I think there is one last deal to be done.
If we don't get a forward we will very likely live to regret it.

regards

Yeah, Riera not playing makes me think there's something going on somewhere. But maybe it's Rafa being Rafa & our misplaced optimism is using it as fuel.

Yep, I've considered that, the thing is, I don't want to sell Riera either, so I can't figure out which is really the optimistic way of looking at it.

The most optimistic way is that Rafa would only get rid of Riera with a much better LW or forward as replacement.

Why Riera isn't playing is a mystery, as our LW has been bollocks. But as for more players coming in, looks highly unlikely.

Riera not getting a look in is the only thing that makes me vaguely wonder if there is still some transfer activity pending. Its just possible that the reason he is not playing is because he is part of another deal and Benitez doesn't want him injured.

Although I wouldn't want to lose Riera either if we want an attacking player brought in and need to sacrifice one of our existing ones there probably isn't anyone else.

We can't lose Gerrard, Torres, Kuyt and Benayoun, and I doubt there would be much interest in Babel, Voronin or N'gog. In terms of attacking players Riera would be the only saleable asset who teams might actually want.

That's the scenario anyway. Personally I can't see it though. There are probably other reasons why Riera is not playing.

Never fear Vlad, we have Babel who is quite obviously ready to burst into life, any day soon.

We don't know what's gone on but this all seems to have stemmed from when he was unavailable for our pre season game and then he played and scored for Spain a few days later.

Whatever the case, he's being shut out and if a replacement isn't on the cards, then Rafa is in a tricky situation and I wouldn't be surprised to see him cut his nose off to spite his face.

I wasn't aware of that but if that is the case then Benitez deserves all he gets frankly.
Although we shouldn't use Riera's absense to paint him as some kind of superman (he really isn't!) we are clearly struggling with a thin squad and to leave out an experienced attacking player just to make a rather pathetic point hardly seems very clever

We will not be signing anyone one else in this transfer window lads and also the January sales as we put it.Fasten your seat belts lads theres strong turbelence ahead.

I agree Richey, if he wants to have a pop or get rid he should bide his time or just man up over it and do the best thing for the club, at least for the short term.

It's costing us on the pitch.

I had suspicions that we wouldn't be getting anyone in January as that is when the 2nd installment for Aqualini is due. So, it does seem our owners have made off with most of the money we got for Xabi.

It is worrying. I can't think of any of the other say top 6 teams that are taking a gamble on having only one decent striker. Rafa's nuts.

Rafa's nuts or Rafa's hands are tied?

I hope we at least go for a loan signing like Baptista, we need 'someone'.

[/quote]Rafa has had chances to sell certain players which I wont mention on here but has refused because even though we and rafa would like to see the back of these players rafa knows he wont see a fuckin penny as the Yanks are virtually asset stripping everything.Rafa wanted certain players in the Alonso deal but these two wankers wanted straight cash,I think you can work the rest out yourselves lads.

I can't see what their motivation would be though. If they want to protect their investment they have to keep it in tip top condition to compete, yes they need to make some attempt for the books to balance, but they know as well as anyone they have to speculate to accumulate.
The only other motive is that they still don't trust Rafa with the purse strings, that being the case they should not have handed them over in the first place.
