BARCELONA LURE JAV AND ROBINHO

ADIOS LIVERPOOL: Mascherano will soon be off to Spain, signalling more woes for Benitez
Sunday November 15,2009
By John Richardson
UNSETTLED Liverpool star Javier Mascherano has virtually sealed a £30million move to Barcelona.
And despite continual denials by Manchester City, he will be joined at the Spanish club by another unhappy South American star, Brazil striker Robinho, for a similar fee.

The European champions and Spanish League winners are confident of wrapping up the £60m double deal, if not during the January transfer window then definitely at the end of the season. Sunday Express Sport can reveal that Mascherano’s advisers have agreed the player’s personal terms with Barcelona – which will mean a hefty rise to around £100,000 a week – in advance of a fee being agreed between the two clubs.

It will be a devastating blow to Anfield boss Rafa Benitez, who has already lost another crucial midfielder, Xabi Alonso, to Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid. Mascherano almost joined Barcelona in the summer and was dejected when the high-profi le transfer collapsed. Insiders at Liverpool blame his disappointing early-season form on that dream move falling through.

But the Argentina international captain is determined to get his way in the coming months – and Liverpool know that.

They will, however, continue to play hard ball with Barcelona over the transfer fee. It’s believed they are demanding £36m, although an eventual compromise deal of around £30m – the same fee that took Alonso to Real Madrid – will end the waiting for a frustrated Mascherano.

He would love to leave in January but is more likely to go next summer. That’s the same scenario with Robinho at Manchester City. The striker is desperate to join Barcelona after failing to get to grips with the Premier League at Eastlands. Robinho annoyed City by staying with Brazil instead of returning for his club’s trip to Abu Dhabi, preferring to have his fractured ankle treated by his national team’s doctors than by the Eastlands club’s.
Manager Mark Hughes says Robinho is going nowhere but knows he can’t prevent the temperamental Brazilian moving on eventually.

Robinho has told Brazilian team-mates while preparing for yesterday’s friendly with England in Qatar that his City days are coming to a close.

He has ignored ex-Arsenal star and Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva’s advice to learn English, believing he
will soon be back in Spain. Although he fell out with people during his final months at Real Madrid, he loves Spanish football and can’t wait to move to Barcelona.

Oh, and Xabi scored both goals for Spain in a 2-1 over Argentina.

The winner was an unstoppable penalty.

*sobs.....again*

if we can spend that money straight away, i'd do the following:

1) get busquets for 8 million (he's far more capable than Lucas as a DM)
2) get Mata for 15 million (left wing issues solved)

The rest, get a back up striker and central defender to solidify the squad.

Well.. if he isnt happy then there is no point keeping him here against his will.

Its not a glowing advertisement for us though.. All these injuries...players looking to leave and all the boardroom shananigans.

We should start looking at Germany and other colder countries to recruit. This whole affair with foreign players getting homesick is annoying.

There are a lot of young Germans that look promising and they tend to be a proffesional bunch that just get on with it.

We'll take 28m plus Busquets thankyouplease.
And spend half that on a TOP centre back, put the rest towards the Babel and Voronin money and FUCKING WELL BUY DAVID SILVA.

I thought Mata's a confirmed no-deal? And I thought Barca had no moolah!? >🙁

Yaya Toure please?

Valuation of players?

I'm bothered we're losing a good player, but this is doing my head in now, if he wants to go, let him go. Especially for that money.

I wonder how Rafa has managed to drive Masher out of the club?

I think so, yeah, besides I'd be really surprised if they let go of Busquets.

It'd be nice if we could do as we did when Alonso left.

Was the new contract that Masher was offered not good enough do you think?

I thought he wasn't

why is Mata a non deal? his contract runs out in 18 months, unless he signs a new one he will be sold

As for Mascherano, I would be surprised if Barce would buy him. They already have Busquets who is getting into Spain national team and they would surely prefer to try and get Fabregas

I am a great Masher fan, and will be sad to see him go , but this has been on the cards for some time now, I think the rumours of Mrs Masch started around the Jan transfer window last year.
Anyways, as I said , a great fan.................but.......I think our priorities lie elsewhere.
If he is going to go he may as well fuck off in January, and we can get some money in for a decent forward as well as some sort of stop-gap for Masher. If we agreed it in January I am sure we could broker some sort of loan deal with Barca for someone, they must have loads of spare forwards and DM's

regards

Here is just one of the numerous reports about Maher being offered a new contract. I am surprised you didn't remember.

JAVIER MASCHERANO has further rocked the listing Anfield boat this morning by snubbing a new contract.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, already on the ropes after four straight defeats, has always believed the Argentine midfielder would join his golden list of long-term stars.

Skipper Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger and Yossi Benayoun were all secured on bumper summer deals. Mascherano, 25, is strongly linked with Barcelona. And that is a real worry for Benitez, as he hoped that his South American playmaker would be another one to commit his long-term future to the Anfield cause.

But Mascherano has no wish to join the elite list, a huge blow to Benitez hours before facing Man United today.

Benitez is willing to shower Mascherano with riches in line with Liverpool’s other superstars. Mascherano, currently on around £60,000 a week, will be guaranteed a £30,000-a-week increase if he signs a new deal.

But Mascherano says the cash is of no interest to him, leaving Benitez and the fans deeply concerned that the Argentinian could be the next big name exiting Anfi eld, following Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid.

Asked about possible talks over a new deal, Mascherano said: “I have never asked for a new contract.

“I already have a contract with Liverpool. I don’t play football for the money. I play for me to win. Obviously I will not play for free. But at this moment the money is not the most important thing for me. I have talked with Rafa over the summer but nothing has happened.

“I’m here. I play for Liverpool and I will try to give my best.

“I am a professional and I have to think about Liverpool.†Mascherano’s stance casts further doubts over his future at Anfield but he is still keen to silence talk about a move to Barcelona.

He added: “I don’t want to talk any more about Barcelona. I try to give my best to Liverpool.

“Sometimes you have good form. Sometimes you are not in good form. But I will continue working to do my best.

“I am very relaxed about my situation because I know I go to training every day and give my bet for the club.†(Daily Star)

it all seems to have fallen apart and we unfortunately need to rebuild before we saw the best of the present team.

its a real shame that we're talking of the need for new players, the unhappiness of some existing ones and the clear inabilities of others in november.

Yeah, find it hard to disagree. Whilst I love watching Mascher run round & destroy people breaking up play like a rottweiler-cum-wrecking ball, he's not the best DM in the world & has been unhappy for a while, or rather his missus has been.

However, unless we can get a very good CM of some sort we're leaving ourselves desperately short in the centre, that has to be remedied, regardless of the huge money.

If it's not, I can only assume Rafa's written off this season, accepting CL qualification as the only goal & putting this 30m plus whatever he can squeeze out of the Americans towards strengthening in a major way next summer.

I think the latter theory makes sense, unfortunately.

there's no way he would be sold in January, it's bullshit

We will see,

So from 'the best midfield in the world' we will shortly have possibly the worst

Still, I suppose just like all Alonso did was pass, all Masher did was tackle

So while Purple is in sick-bay, we can have Lucas in the Alonso role, and I dunno, some other flid replacing Masher

They value Yaya Toure at 15-20 mill, and he will lose his place if Mascher arrives.

Yaya has been quoted in saying that he won't join City, as their not a big enough club, so theres a good chance he would join us.

15 mill + Yaya and it's deal. We have the upper hand in this situation, so let's hope the owners can see that we should include some players in this deal rather than straight cash. If the right players are availelbe that is.

I have little time for players who don't want to be here any more, although it's a shame the only players who stick around are the ones who are fucking shit.

I'd prefer us to get a DM more in the Didi role if possible. Brilliant though Masher is, at times we don't have the attacking ability to cope with someone as specialised/limited as the Argentine.
