Can't be too optimistic if it's true. A formation (4-2-3-1) that's never really worked for us under Rodgers, Lovren at CB, Benteke as a "pivot", Lallana on the wing... No DM, so Milner and Hendo will have to sit in front of the back 4 rather than show their attacking qualities. A draw would be a good result with this set-up.

I'm quibbling, but it'll be 4-2-1-3 with Lallana and Ibe pushed up higher than they would be in a 4231.

Markovic has done nothing to warrant being in there though, who should he replace? Firmino, Lallana, Ibe or Coutinho? They're all better than him. It's one game and there's a shitload to go in different competitions, they'll get there chances. Have a look at the City, United, Arsenal and Chelsea squads this weekend, I'm pretty sure there will be talented players who have missed out.
But then people would miss a chance to moan about something. Instead of looking at it from a different angle, we've finally got competition for the places in the matchday squad.
Yup. How many matches have we played where people bemoaned the quality of the players on the bench. As for Rodgers swaying towards his own signings, that's bollocks, he's given enough existing players a chance and he's also shelved some of his own if they weren't upto it. I don't see Joe Allen as a guaranteed starter this season.
Squads don't emerge fully formed into a manager's hands at the start of the season, you know.
