Well summed up. Almunia was amazing in the first half against Barca and has had other good games before now. Not a keeper I'd want to rely on, but there are worse around.

Like Victor Valdes.
Its so easy to pick on Valdes. Hes very underrated and although he has been a twit in the past his shot stopping has come on leaps and bounds in the past two years! Plus only 19 goals conceded in the league this season is the least in europe by any team! Now you can all give the credit to the rest of the barca team or defense or whtever you like but if they were Liverpools goals conceded numbers, we'd all be heaping praise on Reina!

Well, the brilliance of Bendtner really shone throughout tonight. Certainly put Messi in his place.
That is a strange comment alright.

Bendtner's been good for the Gunners this season. I like him.
He was largely shit last night though. Poor touch, lack of awareness, and the reason for many of Arsenal's attacks breaking down.

Personally I thought he was their best player bar Clichy. Yeah he had a few heavy touches but otherwise easily looked their most dangerous player.

Walcott however is so incredibly easy to shut down it's actually kind of worrying with regards to his overall progress. I've always thought he'd be a massive player too but I'm not sure anymore. He certainly needs to add some more flair to his game.

Pace is vital for a winger but when it stands alone it's of little use.

Yep, he is.

He's average, no better, no worse, leading the line for Arsenal is quite above where he should be, so despite injuries to his colleagues and lack of competition, he's done pretty well for himself.

Out of curiosity how many 22-year-old strikers can you think of who's already playing an important part at one of the biggest clubs around?

He has after all scored 8 goals and created 6 or 7 assists in his last 13 outings I reckon, and a few of those highly important ones too.

Apart from Higuain and Pato I can't really recall anyone else I'd rather have.

*Messi is head and shoulders above anyone so he's excused from this thread.

He is a young lad, my views are based more on the actual physical ability and decision making he doesn’t seem to have. He’s not particularly fast, regularly makes the wrong decisions and misses a hell of a lot of chances. What he has got is physical presence, a good heading ability, and can offer a good outlet to hold the ball.

Being the focal point in a top side creating a fair few amount of chances means he will get goals regardless of how good he is, see the likes of Milan Baros..

In that age bracket, of the top of my head, apart from Higuain and Pato, you’d have Aguero , Rooney, Benzema, Balotelli, Jovetic, Gourcuff, Bojan maybe who are arguably better placed to various extents in lasting it out at top sides (all having more natural ability and desire than Bendtner).

He's good enough for the league, but not to be a consistent starter in a team looking to consistently challenge to win it.

I've had quite a few good discussion on here with regards to talent and unknown players over the years, which is one of the reasons why i love 6CM, but backing one player in particular to come good have got me more stick than anyone else.

That player is Nikclas Bendtner.

People has seriously questioned my sanity on this one and to some extent, if you only watched his bad games, I wouldn't even blame them.

But the fact of the matter is that 21-year-old forward has now signed a new 4-year-extension on his ongoing contract with Arsenal securing him little less than £15M overall.

According to todays Daily Mirror major clubs like Barcelona, Inter and Bayern Münich were all in the hunt for his signature to the end but he choosed to stay in London after all.

Now, showed interest and big pay-checks in itself is not a guarantee of someone's succes but I'm still entitled to highlight this as a little token on my sanity after all.

*Or at least to underline that I'm not the only one with a screw loose.

Pie anyone?
Fairly talented.... bit of a shithouse..... not really good enough apart from as a squad player....

Sorry what are we supposed to be saying in this thread i don't follow?? Is there some sort of point to it???

Not really, no.

And especially not the exact post you're replying too as it's back from September, 2009.

Good post. Doesn't agree entirely as I actually reckon him to be a rather clever footballer. Besides scoring vital goals he's also got a talent for setting up his teammates.

Anyways out of that list of payers Aguero is arguably ahead him talentwise whereas the likes of Rooney and Gourcoff are a tad to 'old' to be counted in. Jovetic, Balotelli, Benzeman and Bojan are certainly talented but I'm not sure any of them has showed as much as Bendtner has already.

That said it's exactly these kind of talented strikers we should've placed on our bench though. Without disrespecting Ngog they are a different class.
