Mascherano, speaking after Argentina's friendly win over the Republic of Ireland, admitted that he would prefer to ply his trade away from England but dismissed suggestions that he has issues with Liverpool or the club's supporters.

He said: "The only thing that I want to say is that I don't have anything against the Liverpool supporters and the Liverpool people.

"My problem is not to play for Liverpool. I am very proud to play for Liverpool. It's another thing.

"I say to him that maybe for my life I prefer to change the country [where I play], not to change the club. That is the fact.

"The only thing that I can say is thank you to everyone in Liverpool because they were supporting me all the time, from the very beginning until now."

I love Masher.

I wish he could stay.

Always gave the most on the pitch.

I hope he plays one last blinder against Arsenal and the kop give him the send off he deserves!

"I say to him that maybe for my life I prefer to change the country [where I play], not to change the club. That is the fact.
"My wife is a dumb bitch and wears the pants in this relationship, so to make her happy i have to leave. That is the fact."

"The only thing that I can say is thank you to everyone in Liverpool because they were supporting me all the time, from the very beginning until now."
"I hope the liverpool supporters continue to support me, even though i have acted like a dick as there is a big chance no team will pay the money for me and ill be stuck here"

We have known for ages that Mascherano has a big problem with his wife who hasn't settled in the UK. The comments attributed to him make perfect sense in that context. I thank him for all the great games he has played for us, and wish him well.

I'm sure that a player of his quality will have no difficulty in finding a new club.

Until he actually leaves, he's a Liverpool player - and I'll be happy if that's the case at the end of the transfer window. As Hodgson said a few weeks ago, the mere fact that he's unhappy here does not mean he is certain to go elsewhere.

If he is going i hope he gets on with it soon. Still worried that we will end up selling at the last possible minute.

He was pretty good last night as well, the bastard. Spraying passes about Alonso style.

Nevermind though, Brad and Christian are on their way.

I haven't joined in the criticism you've received up till now, but that is utter f'cking rubbish.

I like Mascherano, and he is one of my more favoured players at liverpool, but after the big fuss he has made and everything about leaving and then to turn around and make a statement like that, it seems like he is trying to cover his ass just incase he doesnt get his move to inter or barca and ends up staying with us this season.

No, Mascherano's comments don't read like that at all. He is merely saying in his limited English that he needs to go for personal reasons and has nothing against the club. It's quite simple, nothing to do with covering his arse.

You deserve to have your arse bitten by Brendan again, zlatan! ;D

Don't need him anymore we got Poulsen.

*feels deluded yet strangely optimistic*

The only thing he can be accused of there is trying to keep favour with the fans because he doesn't want us to see him as a deserter and he's obviously upset at the prospect of becoming a victim of resentment. In no way does he sound like he's 'covering his ass' incase he stays. He's stated quite categorically that he can't stay and won't stay, so why have you completely missed the point, again?

The only thing I'm pissed off with is his comments in the Summer regards "learning Italian", and his constant unwillingness to give it a go under Roy. That said, clearly there are other issues (family probably) afoot that are effecting his thinking and he's consistently given 110% on the pitch no matter what, so for that I wish him the very best (and hope we get a big fee).

But as I said, you missed the point by a mile.

Maybe i have missed the point "again", but im saying what it sounds like to me. He is under contract and whoring himself around saying his dream is inter and now inter come out and cant afford him so suddenly his dream is Barca again. I like Mascherano and think he is an amazing player, and should he stay i will continue to support him 100%, but his comments piss me off.

His family didn't feel settled in Liverpool, the wife doesn't like it, he stuck it out for a year, and he'll try to do the best for his family somewhere else now. That doesn't make him pussy whipped, it makes him, despite all visual evidence, not a cave man.

You'd probably be able to grasp that, had you been in a significant relationship at some point in your life.

Ignoring the fact that he should want his family to be happy, show me a man who can ignore the wishes of his wife for over a year, make her totally miserable, and not buckle under the consequences.

That's not an argument, as he can earn at least the same elsewhere, indeed probably more, and feel more settled.
I think Mascher did us a favour in staying last year to be honest and not forcing the move when we lost Xabi, I also think ceratin promises were made about not standing in his way this year if he stayed, and if he still felt the same.
I like the guy, and will be sorry to see him go, but I think he is just being honest and doing the right thing for him.
I also thin, as I said in another post we should be letting him go now he has less than two years to go and any value will start dropping.
We can use his money wisely on a good left back and striker.
Thanks Mascher, and good luck.

Maybe im just looking into it too much and letting my feelings get in the way. But anyway for him to be able to leave there has to be a decent offer for him and so far there hasnt.

So whats the plan if no-one offers us the money we are looking for? Mascher and his wife will still be pissed

zlatan you would certainly act the same way if you where in the same situation! making your family happy is massive consideration in any man's life. Stop being an arse and see some sense!!

his wife could move to london. or she could get a prescription for some anti-depressants
[/quote]

Moving to London wouldn't do her any good as she still doesn't speak English.

Of course they don't speak Spanish in Milan either, but I suppose Italy does have more of a Latin atmosphere and the weather is better.

If you are very fluent/a native Spanish speaker you can understand, but not speak, a lot of Italian.

Well then mascherano and his wife should start begging teams to offer us 30M and he can take his wife to another place where she will be much happier. Everyone is then happy 😉

We have options in midfield , particularly with the arrival of Poulsen but very little up front as, andwhen, Torres is not available, yes we have Jovanovic who will do a job, but we would need someone reasonable to play with him.
Fortunatley Roy knows this which is why he is looking for striker cover. If only Rafa had listened to me this time last year we might well have finished in the top four.
You need at least two decent strikers and realistically three to compete in the prem.

I agree - N'Gog is not a realistic answer to the problem of backup for Torres, so recruiting a decent striker must now be the top priority, otherwise we will start off this season with the same problem as we started off last season. Who that striker might be is a matter for debate, speaking for myself I would have been delighted to have Crouch.

I'm actually more annoyed with the club on this, as I've mentioned.

This isnt like the Alonso 'will he wont he' saga.

He wanted to leave last year, and he probably agreed to stay only because the Alonso transfer left us in a bad situation.

The transfer to wherever the hell he wants to go should have been agreed months ago.

I actually have some sympathy for him; it's very hard to choose between what makes you happy and what would make your wife happy..and he did choose us over her last year; I'm not sure if he should be forced to do it again.
