Presuming Skrtel Carroll, and a few others offloaded giving a budget of £40m - what positions do we fill and what do we allot to that position?

Tough to say depends on the who's leaving.
There's still question marks regarding Reina and Johnson. Not sure about Suarez either.
But if get to keep the same team for another season, I'd buy a central defender and a winger.

tell that to Manure, who consistently spend big time on attacking players and have at least 6 attacking players (of 1st team standard) who can score and create goals. What do we have?
But they've had 2 of the best centre backs for nearly a decade. We haven't.
We now have sturridge, Suarez, coutinho, Gerrard, Henderson, borini all who could score 10+ in all competitions. We've been leaking goals and we're losing carra, and maybe skrtel and Coates. Our full backs are average.
We should strengthen the attack, AFTER we've strengthened our defence
Skrtle, agger, kelly, coates, wisdom, is arguably sufficient cover for 2 slots.
Our front 4 have about 4 decent players with hardly any cover.
We should prioritise attack, but agree that we should invest in defence, BUT not to the detriment of attack.
But RM has a point, Man U's defensive record this season isn't that impressive. I mean we let in 5 goals more than they did and people think our defence is falling apart.
What I'm trying to say is and I've said this before, Ferguson's main focus is attack. Best form of defence is attack. So while Man U might concede two goals in one game, they'll also score 3 or 4.
Goals win you games, simples.
Kelly who is perma injured and has exclusively played right back for the first team
Wisdom who has played about 10 games at right back for the first team
Coates looks like he's stoned and doesn't get a game
Skrtel has been shite and looks pretty certain to leave
Aggers worst season in a while
There are only 2 senior/experienced players to cover 2 positions there.
Whats our front 4? 2 wide, a striker and one behind the striker?
Sturridge, Suarez, Borini, Coutinho, Gerrard, Assaidi, Downing, Suso, Shelvey, Henderson, Ibe, Sterling, even Enrique can all cover those 4 positions. That's 13 for 4 positions.
genuine question, how many of them have scored 10 goals in all comps this season? Compare the quality of our attacking players to those of others, we need serious quality injection.
How many of them our first teamers who can get score more than 5/10 goals a season? Most are potential. comare what we have to: rooney, horse face, young, valencia, kaqawa, cleverly, hernandez and wellbeck - all these are first teamers and international players.
As for us, I have been generous not bolding Borini, but he is still unproven at this level.
Yea but you can't hold one marker up to judge attacking players and at the same time apply nothing to judge the standard of defensive cover we have.
You're saying attackers - how many have scored - 5-10 goals? I don't know but 3 of those defenders you named have barely scraped 20 league games between them this season yet you are deeming them acceptable cover?
I'm not disagreeing with signing attackers but in a season where you've scored a shit load of goals and your defence has been poor then maybe you should be leaning towards fixing the defensive side. Especially when Carragher is retiring, how can replacing him not be a priority?
Because Man Utd have never, ever, ever spent big money on defenders?

We have got to address our weak points. The Center backs/ fullbacks/ defensive midfielder we need strengthening all of those areas. We can address that and then add on up front if we still could...
I don't like using the word wing because it feels limiting, would prefer right-sided forward, but I agree.
I know what you mean, but I didn't say that (even though I primarily see someone for the right) because I'd like someone who can do both sides well, so that maybe Coutinho can come more centrally more often next season.
I think we'll see Coutinho play centrally - so yeah, I'd agree with that - someone adept on both sides.
