What you'd rather Steven Gerrard was a promising youngster like Jack Wilshere with a lot to learn than the Steven Gerrard who's carried the team for over a decade, has given us some of the best footballing memories amongst them some amazing goals and has been regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world? Seriously ? Doubt that.

Neil, you're going around in circles dude. Your original opinion has proved to be correct (according to you) but you've admited you have since changed your stance on your original opinion. What do you believe now?

since you asked, the 'CM physique' issue was brought up and I answered honestly with my current opinion (it doesn't really matter if the player is good enough - Jack Wilshere being an good example) but it turns out I originally said that CM 'DO' need to be physically imposing when talking about aqua, so I contridicted my earlier comment (of two YEARS ago). when I read my old posts I think that is a fair enough opinion at the time because since he (aqua) has been shipped out because I don't think management trusted him to command the middle of the park.

so, essentially I was mocked for contridicting myself over comments I made two years ago but the comments I made two years ago actually came to pass.

but to put an end to this once and for all, my CURRENT oppinion is if you are good enough you can command a place in CM regardless of your physique but obviously you are going to have an easier job of it if you are physically imposing - so my opinion of 2 years ago is wrong even though I think it is the reason aqua was shipped out.

clear? can we drop this now?

I'm not saying my opinion was proven correct, I'm saying I think it is the reason aqua was shipped out.

the the mods - nice title name change for the thread by the way. is it possible to change it back as it's about unpopular opinions and not just about me.

I'm getting a little annoyed I've been drawn on an arguement I had two years ago. is that fair? how about I go back to the roy hodgson thread write down all the names of who thought he would be a good idea and any time I get into an arguement with anyone on that list just say 'well, you thought hodgson was a good idea, so what do you know?'

Actually Spidey, the reason there was such a furore in that thread was that you maintained that build was important and unimportant simultaneously. A position(s), quite amazingly, I think you still hold. And stop saying it was 2 years ago. It was last season.

ha ha I guess I am taking two points of views because I kind of agree with both. 😉
you have wiltshire who is slight of build and is excellent and you have lucas who is slight of build and is first choice in our CM but are you telling me both players wouldn't benefit from putting on two stones of solid muscle. so my earlier opinion is wrong but when I read back my posts to myself, I can see why I said it.

Or we could mix it up in here -

Al Pacino would be great as a DM, admittedly he's short and skinny but he has the right mentality (shouty motivator, hyper competitive).

On the other hand, Tim Robbins, despite being a physically imposing figure, is less well suited to the DM position because of his easy going nature and pensive, accommodating mentality.
